Football
Saturday afternoon saw Aodh Ruadh and Saint Eunan's playing out a low key encounter in Father Tierney Park. The first half was not memorable, particularly from a Ballyshannon perspective, with a lone Jack Gallagher goal the only score for the home support to get vocal about. Nevertheless the hosts were still in the hunt at the turnaround as Eunan's had only managed to chalk up six points with the wind at their back. Aodh Ruadh were unable to push on in the second 30 though, and, although Jack Gallagher picked off three further points, he was to only Ernesider to trouble the score board operator. Eunan's weren't much more prolific themselves, but they kept their noses in front to run out 0-11 to 1-3 winners. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorer were as follows: Peter Boyle; Aidan Sweeney, Conor Patton, Michael Ward; Eoghan Kelly, Niall Murray, Kyle Murray; Nathan Boyle, Johnny Gethins; Diarmaid McInerney, David Dolan, Eddie Lynch; Darragh Dolan, Jack Gallagher (1-3), Callum O’Halloran. Subs: James Gallagher, Darren Drummond and Ryan Keenaghan for Darragh Dolan, O’Halloran and McInerney (58). We have a gallery of pictures from the game live on aodhruadh.org.

It was a similar story in the reserve game with the visitors coming away with the win against a low scoring Ballyshannon. Itt finished 1-4 to 0-14 in favour of Saint Eunan's. We have pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org.

The adult footballers have a break next week ahead of the next round of league action.

Monday was derby day in Father Tierney Park with a decent crowd present to watch the clash of Aodh Ruadh and Bundoran in the minor league. The Ernesiders were pushed all the way by the Seasiders in what was a spirited and entertaining tussle on a cool, crisp April evening. Eoin Cassidy struck for the game's first point two minutes in, but Realt na Mara hit the next three to take an early lead. Cassidy was the creator for Aodh Ruadh's next score, flicking across the face of goal for Oran Gillespie to net. Cassidy then tagged on a point, but Bundoran rallied again with 1-1 to head back into a two point lead with seven minutes left in the half. The final say of the half went the way of the homesters though. First Cassidy hit a glorious pass for Garvey Meade to collect and slam to the net, and then Dara McGloin slipped over a neat score to send his side to the dressing room leading by 2-3 to 1-5. Aodh Ruadh dominated for much of the second half. Eoin Cassidy reeled off three points in five minutes, with Barry Campbell also on the mark to push Ballyshannon five points ahead. Bundoran got an answering free, but successive points from Garvey Meade, Oran Gillespie, MJ Ward and Eoin Cassidy looked to have take the game beyond Bundoran's grasp. Credit to the visitors though, they continued to battle well though, and a three minute spell where they rattled in 1-2 took them back to within a goal of the leaders. It was getting nervy in Father Tierney Park, but deep into injury time Donagh Kelly was the right man in the right place to fist over the insurance score for the hosts as it finished Aodh Ruadh 2-12 Bundoran 2-8. A good team display from Ballyshannon, with Ted O'Donnell, Rory Cullen, Liam Doogan and Tommy Clyne doing well in the defence. Up front there was a good range of scorers with Eoin Cassidy instrumental in weaving it all together. We have pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org.

Our under 16 boys made the long journey to Buncrana on Friday evening for the second game of the league. Aodh Ruadh were two points up at half time after playing well in the first half. The second half was nip and tuck, with Buncrana staying in touch at all times. A couple of quick fire points within a few minutes left put Buncrana in front for the first time in the match. However, Aodh Ruadh did well to create one more chance, and equalised in injury time, to finish up on a final scoreline of 0-9 a piece. Next up for the under 16s is a challenge match this Friday, away to Melvin Gaels. Details will follow on the squad WhatsApp group. After that the lads are away to Urris on bank holiday Monday, with a 6pm throw in.

Congratulations to Garreth Brennan, Corey Sheridan and Joe Gibbions and Paul O'Loughlin who are all flying the flag for Aodh Ruadh on Donegal's Buncrana Cup squad. Preparations are going well with the three lads getting plenty of game time in a challenge match against Sligo in Convoy on Saturday. The Buncrana Cup gets up and running next weekend with what promises to be a lively encounter against Derry.

The Group 2 and Group 3 under 14 teams are back in action this Wednesday. The Group 2 team are in Fintra to take on Killybegs, while the Group 3 team host Kilcar in Father Tierney Park. Throw-in for both games is 7.15pm.

The under 10s welcomed Naomh Columba to Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Wednesday evening, putting in another strong performance. Training continues on Tuesday evening from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at Coláiste Cholmcille. There are two games on the road this week, Wednesday away to Naomh Bríd at 6.30pm, while on Saturday the boys will make the long journey to Dungloe for an 11.30am throw-in.

On Saturday our under 8s travelled to Fintra to take on Killybegs in the sunshine. Aodh Ruadh had four teams in action again, with 28 young footballers playing. Thanks to all the parents for travelling as well as our coaches for helping on the day. This week we have no match and training is at the earlier time of 5.30pm this week to allow the lads to get their dance moves sorted for the Underage Disco being organised by our Ladies Football committee. The following week the under 8s are due to play Kilcar in Towney.

Ladies
The senior ladies were comprehensively defeated by Termon in the league on Sunday morning. Exchanges were fairly even through the first quarter with points from Eimear McMahon leaving it at Aodh Ruadh 0-2 Termon 0-4 From there to the break though Termon took greater control of proceedings. Cáit Gillespie registered a goal and Lauren Foy posted a superb point, but the visitors had hit 2-4 in reply to put themselves in a position to dictate proceedings at their comfort. The Shamettes were unable muster much in the way of response in the second half, with points from Cáit Gillespie, Elaine Dorrian, Gillian Dufficy and Terri Gallagher cancelled out plus interest as it finished Aodh Ruadh 1-7 Termon 6-14. Best for Ballyshannon on the day were Sara Gallagher, Síofra Hughes, Lauren Foy, Gillian Dufficy and Roisin McGloin all of whom kept battling right through the 60 minutes. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Roisin Maguire; Sara Gallagher, Saoirse McDevitt, Roisin McGloin; Aoibhinn McGarrigle, Caitlin McGarrigle, Lauren Foy (0-1); Anna Lisa Rabbitte, Orla Keon; Gillian Dufficy (0-1), Cáit Gillespie (1-1), Síofra Hughes; Eimear McMahon (0-2), Terri Gallagher (0-1), Cadhla Dolan. Subs: Grainne Maguire, Caoimhe Devine, Elaine Dorrian (0-1), Fiona McGonigle, Emer O'Brien. We have a gallery of shots from the game up on aodhruadh.org.

The adult ladies have a break from league action next weekend.

Our under 16 girls game against Killybegs scheduled for this Tuesday has been postponed. Meanwhile, well done to the Donegal under 16 ladies who booked their place in the Ulster final with a 3-15 to 2-7 over Derry, our own Ciara Larkin striking for a very important goal. Best of luck to Ciara, Katie McGowan and manager Paul Gillespie as they gear up for the final.

The under 15 Féile squad is in action this Thursday against Saint Naul's. Throw-in at Father Tierney Park is at 6pm.

Our under 12 girls got their season underway with a blitz hosted by Naomh Bríd on Sunday 21st April. We had 32 girls across two teams performing really well in their first games of the year against Naomh Bríd, Killybegs, and finishing with the two Aodh Ruadh teams (and coaches!) facing off against each other. Thanks to Naomh Bríd for a great day out. On Sunday morning, availability impacted by the Donegal v Tyrone semi-final, we had a reduced panel of 22 girls playing at MacCumhaill Park for games against Sean MacCumhaill's. The girls put in very impressive performances all over the pitch, playing really fantastic football, and they even made it home in time to enjoy Donegal’s win. Thanks to MacCumhaill's for hosting us.

Hurling
The senior hurlers had a break last week. They return to action this Friday with a trip to O'Donnell Park to take Saint Eunan's.

It was a quiet week on the hurling front with a number of fixtures postponed or cancelled.

The minors are still waiting to start their 2024 season. Training will continue on Tuesday and Thursday in the meantime.

The under 16s traveled to Pettigo this evening to take on Éire Óg, Carrickmore from Tyrone in the third round of the Táin Óg. The Ballyshannon lads put in a brilliant team performance to come away with a 2-15 to 0-7 to victory to make it three wins from three in the competition. On Thursday they will travel to Letterkenny to play Saint Eunan's in O'Donnell Park in the third round of the All-County League. Best of luck in both competitions to mentor Mark Sheerin and all the lads.

The under 12s take to Father Tierney on Thursday for the first time this year as they host neighbours, Four Masters in the All-County League. Throw in is at 6.30pm and it would be great to see lots of local support for this team on their first outing. Best wishes to mentor Patrick McGarrigle, Rob Knott and all the panel.

Last Tuesday, we travelled to our neighbours in Sligo to play Saint Molaise Gaels in a challenge. As they stayed at odd ages, this was an under 7 and under 9 game. We had two under 9 teams and one under 7 team and the boys enjoyed some competitive games with our neighbours. Then on Sunday we had the first All-County blitz of the season in the Donegal Centre of Excellence in Convoy. We entered two under 8 teams on the day, playing Four Masters, Saint Eunan's, Setanta, MacCumhaill's and Buncrana. The boys played very well and had a great morning of hurling. The under 10 team played against Saint Eunan's, Four Masters and Setanta. Again we performed well on the day with some great hurling being played. Training continues at 11.45am in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Sunday, and the boys next fixture is against Four Masters on Sunday 12th May.

Training continues for our under 6 hurlers every Sunday morning at 11.45am. As ever, all new-comers will be made most welcome. Just contact Stephen Sheerin on 086-8616927 if you'd like more info.
