Reserves to the power of four

Senior Reserve Division 3
10 May 2015
Aodh Ruadh 4-12
Naomh Bríd 1-4
Father Tierney Park

The reserves got down to business with a comprehensive win against their nearest rivals in division three on a dire afternoon at the Park. Naomh Bríd started the better of the two teams and twice took the lead in the opening exchanges only to be cancelled out by points from Anthony Coughlin and Dermot Slevin.

However, that was to be the extent of the scoring for the visitors in the first half as further points from Slevin and Coughlin, along with three from Eddie Lynch and one from David Finnerty, put Aodh Ruadh into a strong lead at 0-7 to 0-2 at half time. It could have been even better for the hosts had Anthony Coughlin not had his shot saved by the keeper when in on goal. Referee Gabriel O'Donnell was laying down the law and had the black card out twice by the 18th minute with both teams having men put to the line, before Naomh Bríd had their half back seeing red for lashing out at Finnerty.

Aodh Ruadh took the second half by storm and had notched up two goals in the first five minutes of the restart, the first being palmed in by Niall Thomas after a shot come cross box pass from Spanny Goan, the second a neat finish by Waddle Coughlin after being played in by Ryan McKenna. The visitors responded well with a goal and a point to leave the scores at 2-7 to 1-3 midway through the half.

Coughlin pointed again and Jamie McDonald added a good score before Naomh Bríd got a point which proved to be their last score of the game. Jim Kane had the luxury of a full bench which was emptied to good effect, amongst which was Brian Roper who dusted off his old Pumas to make the return to his favourite hunting ground.

The subs all delivered and Aodh Ruadh finished the game off in style. James Kelly hammered the ball into the Naomh Bríd net after a quality disguised pass from Oisín Roper opened up the defence. Points from Thomas, Lynch, Coughlin and Jason Gallagher followed as the visitors ran out of steam. Coughlin put the icing on the cake when he shimmied past his marker to add his second goal of the game to leave the final score at 4-12 to 1-4.

Best for Aodh Ruadh were Oísin Roper who had a tremendous game when he game in at half back, Eddie Lynch who got some crucial scores in the first half, and Niall Thomas who had a solid game in midfield.
