Reserves make long trip to Inishowen worth while

Intermediate Reserve Football Championship
26 August 2017
Carndonagh 1-3
Aodh Ruadh 3-18
David McLoone reports from Páirc Ui Dohochartaigh

The Aodh Ruadh reserves were much to strong for Carndonagh on Saturday evening in their third round championship clash. Two Dermot Slevin points and a Sean Taylor score put the visitors in front before Carn managed their first score. Kerry Ryan restored the three point lead, but for all Aodh Ruadh's possession the hosts managed to bring it back to 0-4 to 0-3 by the middle of the half. However, a late flurry in the last seven minutes opened up a 0-10 to 0-3 half-time lead, the points coming from Rory Cullen, a pair from Oisin Rooney, a second from Taylor and one each from Cáelán Drummond and Martin Larkin.

The blitz continued in the second half as Aodh Ruadh stormed another 3-8 to just a single score at the end from the hosts to see the game out comfortably at 3-18 to 1-3. The first of the goals came from Diarmaid McInerney after being played through by Taylor seven minutes into the half. The second came minutes later from Oisin Roper after Rooney did well to turn two men to set up the goal. Rooney then got his reward of a goal five minutes from the end. The win sees Aodh Ruadh second in the group on five points based on Milford's superior score difference, but safely through to the knock out stages.
