Intermediate Football Championship

Aodh Ruadh 6-14
David McLoone reports from Páirc Ui Dohochartaigh
Aodh Ruadh just had too much in the tank for their division 4 opponents on Saturday afternoon. The Ernesiders quickly skipped into 2-8 to 0-1 lead with 10 minutes on the clock. A Johnny Gettins goal was followed by a rocket of a shot into the top corner by Johnny Gallagher. Points were supplied by Seamus Kane (2), Colm Kelly, Daniel Warnock, David McGurrin, Johnny Gethins, Jason Granaghan, and Johnny Gallagher.
The scoring pace slowed slightly in the second quarter, but another two goals were tagged on. First Darren Drummond palmed in after a sweeping move. Then Seamus Kane added the fourth just before the break with a another McGurrin point giving Ballyshannon a 4-9 to 0-6 at half-time.
Carndonagh were first off the mark in the new half with two early points. Aodh Ruadh took a while to get back up to the pace of proceedings though and it was ten minutes in before they troubled the score board operator again. When it arrived the opening score was a trademark Nathan Boyle effort from range which got things going. Johnny Gallagher then hammered home his second goal after David Dolan played him in.
Carndonagh's midfielder pointed in response, but Ballyshannon kept the pedal to the metal. Seamus Kane played a lovely ball in to put David Dolan through and the attacking ace found the top corner with a precision shot. Three points then followed from David McGurrin, Johnny Gettins and a Nathan Boyle 45. Carn's centre forward chalked up a lone point before Daniel Warnock got the final score after a nice run to leave it 6-14 to 0-8 at full time.
A facile win for Aodh Ruadh in the end in a fixture which raises some questions about championship structures. The Ernesiders won all their individual battles with Johnny Gallagher, Johnny Gethins and Damien Cleary the stand out performers in one sided affair. The game was also noteable for seeing our wrecking ball player manager James O'Donnell make his first appearance of season as second half substitute.
Peter Boyle; Callum O'Halloran, Damian Cleary, Michael Ward; Jason Granaghan, Colm Kelly, Daniel Warnock; David Dolan, Conor Patton; Seamus Kane, David McGurrin, Johnny Gethins; Nathan Boyle, Darren Drummond Johnny Gallagher.
