Hurling
Aodh Ruadh are inviting applications for the position of Aodh Ruadh senior hurling manager. Applications should be submitted by email to secretary.aodhruadh.donegal@gaa.ie by Wednesday, 31st January 2024.
A big congratulations to our hurlers who have been selected for the 2024 county hurling teams. Cian McDonald is flying the flag for Aodh Ruadh with the under 20 team while Jun Hui Lin, Liam Doogan, Corey Sheridan, Daithi Sheerin, Shay Winters, Sean Maguire and Joseph Gibbions have all secured their place on the under 17 Celtic Challenge Team. We wish all the boys the very best for the year ahead. Training has been in full swing since December for these lads and games will be starting soon.
Ladies
Well done to the Donegal senior ladies who defeated Laois in the opening round of NFL Division 2 in a wind and rain swept Portlaoise on Sunday. Donegal played with the elements on the first half and led at half time 0-0 to 0-4. Given the strength of the wind many observers anticipated that might not be a sufficient cushion, however John McNulty’s charges had other ideas, playing their best football in the second half and deservedly running out winners on a scoreline of 0-3 to 0-7. Well done to our own Caoimhe Keon came on as a blood sub after 5 mins and played most of the first half.
Darts exhibition
This Friday Seán Óg’s will be the venue for some top quality darts, and maybe some not so great darts too! Stephen Bunting will be the guest of honour for what promises to be an action-packed darts exhibition fund-raiser for Bord na nÓg. Of particular interest is a raffle with a great array of prizes including Two Manchester United v Fulham tickets for Saturday 24th February, bottles of spirits, bottles of wine, new Adidas football boots to name just a few. Tickets are priced at three strips for €5, six strips for €10, etc. The draw will be made during the exhibition and tickets can be bought on the night or during the week in Seán Ógs, or you can Revolut Packie McGrath on 087-9794696, or PayPal packiemcgrath@hotmail.com, or text / WhatsApp.

There’s a prize fund of €250 to be won by the player or players that manage to correctly predict the winning teams right through to the finals and of course, the smugness of being the Last One Standing! Entry costs €10 and cards can be collected from Owen Roe’s Bar or from any committee member and can be sent via WhatsApp or email – contact Orla Bannon on 086-8035316. Dinner dance
The social night of the year takes place on Saturday, 17th February, as Aodh Ruadh host their annual dinner dance! As usual the action takes place in Dorrian’s Imperial Hotel, and we are all looking forward to what should be a big night of craic and celebration. Thankfully the club had a successful 2023 on a number of fronts, so we have quite a bit of achievement to mark. Attendees will be greeted with a complimentary glass of fizz on arrival from 6pm, before proceedings formally get under way with the banquet at 7pm sharp. After the fine dining, Master of Ceremonies Sean Perry will take to the rostrum to introduce the presentation of awards. As well as our usual individual presentations we will be saluting our senior reserve championship winning footballers, as well as the under 23 championship winning ladies. We will also be honouring our 1998 senior and reserve championship winning sides, as well as the intermediate camogie champions as they mark their jubilees. With the gongs given out, the fabulous Keltic Kaos will take to the stage to entertain the crowd into the small hours. Tickets priced €40 are now available on klubfunder.com or by contacting Lisa McTernan on 086-2338636. Don’t delay, get yours today!
