Under 14s off to a winning start
Under 14 football league
2 June 2010
Aodh Ruadh 4-9
Four Masters 1-2
Father Tierney Park.
With the under 13 league impeding preparation for the under 14 programme, this was something of a step into the unknown for both teams. The first half was a tight enough affair as the teams tried to work each other out. Aodh Ruadh got the better of that process, going in leading by 2-4 to 1-1 at the half time break. In the second half the Ernesiders took command of the tie to run out convincing winners.
Colm Kelly had a fine game at midfield and also finished up top scorer with 2-2 to his credit. He was closely followed in the scoring stakes by full forward Daniel Mannion who took two super goals and a point. Mannion struck up a good partnership with his colleague at full forward Stephen Thompson who also came up with a couple of points. Niall Harley's strength around the middle was a big factor in the game and he crowned a good shift by forward for a point. One pleasing aspect of the game was the good spread of scores for Aodh Ruadh with John Ward, Philip Patton and Jason Gallagher all getting a point apiece. Defensively Ballyshannon were very sound with Matthew Maguire as polished as ever at centre back and Eddie Lynch giving a very strong display at wing back. Next up for the under 14s is a trip to Dungloe on Bank Holiday Monday, 7th June. That game throws in at 7.30pm.
