Minors lose out in league opener
Minor football league

Aodh Ruadh 2-5
Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.
Aodh Ruadh minors lost their first game of the league campaign to Saint John's last Friday by 2-5 to 2-8. Ballyshannon played with the benefit of a strong breeze in the first half, but were slow to get into the groove of the game. A goal for the homesters helped kickstart things and by half time they were six points up. Unfortunately, the lead was to prove insufficient playing into the wind, but the lads battled well. Saint John's hit a goal and Aodh Ruadh hit back immediately with a goal from Ruairi Drummond, but once the visitors finally got on top it was always going to be very difficult to peg them back. Some of the best displays were in defence for Aodh Ruadh PJ Gillespie in the corner and Eamon McGrath at full back were both outstanding, while Conor Patton and Ronan McGurrin came more into the game as it wore on. Up front Jamie McDonald did very well until forced off with injury. The next fixture for the minors is the visit to Glencolumbkille to face Naomh Columba next Friday. That match throws in at 6.30pm.
