Aodh Ruadh defeat Naomh Mhuire
Under 16 football league
11 April 2011
Aodh Ruadh 3-10
Naomh Mhuire 0-6
Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.
Monday night saw Aodh Ruadh notch their second win over Naomh Mhuire in the course of three days. This time it was the under 16s who emerged victorious in Father Tierney Park. Despite hitting the woodwork on a number of occasions the homesters found themselves 1-6 to 0-2 up at half time. They built on that advantage in the second half and clinched two valuable league points with a 3-10 to 0-6 final score. The win was based on a strong defensive foundation with Ryan Patton solid as always and Matthew Maguire also demonstrating some skilful touches.
In front of them Darren Gethins was smooth and assertive at centre back while Colm Kelly put in an excellent shift on the wing. Once again Pauric Patton and Eamon McGrath were very solid at midfield where the pair have built a great partnership. Johnny Gethins was always dangerous at full forward and caused the Annagry outfit endless headaches. David McGurrin and Mickey McNeely were both excellent at half forward, while Eddie Lynch scored two super points in the second half. Kudos too to Stephen Thompson who came on in second half and scored a fantastic goal. Oisín Roper was another substitute who came on and made a significant contribution.
Many thanks to Cathal Maguire for these pictures.
