Under 16s book league final spot
Under 16 football league
25 April 2011
Four Masters 1-4
Aodh Ruadh 8-15
Tir Chonaill Park
Aodh Ruadh gave a masterful display against Four Masters to book their place in the Southern Regional League final. Ballyshannon were on top from the early moments when Johnny Gethins blasted home an early goal. It was a game were the Ernesiders defence wasn't particularly challenged, but anything that came their well was well dealt with. Daniel Kelly did have to make two excellent saves and Eamon McGrath showed a lot of quality at full back. Niall Harley was very strong at half back and he shut down a lot of Four Masters attacking attempts. Colm Kelly had been hurling earlier in the day and showed signs of his exertions, but he soldiered well and got up for a point. Darren Gethins and Pauric Patton dominated in midfield each hitting a point apiece. The forwards were very impressive putting in a lot of work to turn the ball over in the opposition half. Johnny Gethins gave a very polished performance hitting 2-2 from play. James Kelly was another who oozed class. He hit a penalty and another goal, but he made a huge contribution with his running and keen work ethic. David McGurrin did well also, finishing with 1-4, while Jamie McDonald ended the match top scorer with 3-6 to his credit. There were some eye-catching contributions from the bench also, with Paddy Gillespie, Eddie Lynch and Cookie O'Halloran all showing well when they came on. Next up for the under 16s is the Southern League final, but they will have to await the result of the final round of league games next Monday to see which side they will face. Dungloe, Bundoran and Ardara are all in with a shout of making the final. Thanks to everyone who supported the lads when they were bag packing in Supervalu in Bundoran on Easter Saturday.
