Aodh Ruadh extend unbeaten run
Under 16 Football league
1 April 2012
Aodh Ruadh 4-8
Ardara 0-6
Father Tierney Park
The under 16s extended their unbeaten start to the season with a fine 4-8 to 0-6 win over Ardara in Father Tierney park last Sunday. It was a big, strong Ardara team which lined out against Ballyshannon and they made their physical dominance count early when they chalked up the first score of the game. However once Aodh Ruadh got a grip on the game they didn't let go. An early goal from Shane McGrath helped get the Ernesiders going and from there they tagged on a series of points to go in 3-6 to 0-3 leaders. The second half was more even as Ardara closed up shop defensively, but Aodh Ruadh remained on top and substitute Stephen Thompson's late goal was the coup de grace. The defence was exceptional for the homesters. The full back line of Matthew Maguire, Eugene Drummond and Colm Doyle were faultless while at half back Conor Kennedy maintained his happy knack of being in the right place at the right time and Cookie O'Halloran did a spectacular marking job on his dangerous opposite number. Once again the midfield are exceptional. Colm Kelly was Colm Kelly which is good enough for most games. Niall Harley continues to develop his game impressively and he is the real engine room of the team. Up front Eddie Lynch had a very good game at centre forward, imposing his game on his opposite number. Philip Patton was clinical from dead ball while Shane McGrath was a constant menace. At times Aodh Ruadh played a classy brand of fluid football which was a pleasure to watch and the manner in which they powered through to the finish was very heartening.
