Ballyshannon gaels made 1949 a notable year
1949 was a notable year for the GAA in Ballyshannon as was strikingly reflected in the reports on the development of the new park at the Annual General Meeting of the Aodh Ruadh club held in the Market House on Sunday.
The Park accounts 1947-1949 submitted by the treasurer, Mr John McDermott revealed that a total of £2,401 35s 4d had been spent on the purchase and partial development of the Park.
The club financial statement showed income at £221 1s 3d and expenditure, £209 19s 10d with a credit balance of £11 1s 5d.

Messrs King and P. J. Croal acted as chairman and secretary respectively during the election of officers which resulted.

Ballyshannon boys will make history
The boys of the De La Salle Secondary School Ballyshannon will make history when through their medium, Ballyshannon will be represented for the first time ever in the inter-colleges football competition and even for this fact alone the event should prove a memorable one.

Donegal gaels had a busy day
Ballyshannon school congratulated
Starting at 3.30pm in the Butt Hall, Ballybofey on Sunday it was fully eight hours later when officials of the Donegal County Board had finished the last item on the agenda, the selection of two teams to play at Glenties on Sunday in the preparation for the junior inter-county campaign which opens at Ballybofey on April 2nd.
During the meeting reference to the entry of the De La Salle secondary school Ballyshannon into the Rannafast Cup competition was made by Mr. Sean O Cinneide who said, "I think that the Board should congratulate the superior of the School on entering a team for the Rannafast cup."

Big hurling drive planned for Donegal
Plans to put hurling on a sound footing in the county were approved at the Meeting of the Donegal Co. Board, GAA in the literary institute, Letterkenny on Sunday Mr. A. Canning chairman presiding.
Present from Ballyshannon were: Mr. H. Daly, Messrs J. McDermott, E. J. Gonigle.

May 5th, 1950 edition
The clouds rolled back the rain stopped to let the sun shine down brilliantly as Saint Eunan's and Ballyshannon took the field in the senior league game at the O'Donnell Park, Letterkenny before a large attendance.
Half-time score was Saint Eunan's 1-1, Ballyshannon 1-1

Ballyshannon show improvement
Fresh from their victory over the Democrat Cup champions at Donegal Town the previous Sunday it was a confident Killygordon fifteen that lined against the men of the Erne Town. It was an important game for both teams and when it became evident that it was going to be one of the great tests seen in the competition to date.

The punch the ball rule played a big part in a surprise win by Bundoran over a fancied Ballyshannon side in the second round of the south Donegal section of the junior county football championship at Stonewold Park, Ballyshannon on Sunday where on the official scores, the sea-siders scored a 1-6 to 0-7 victory.
Ballyshannon team: S. Walsh, K. McCready, W. Hoey, S. Drummond, F. Herron, Devin Scally, Martin Cunniffe, J. McGloin, R. Burnes, Liam McGroarty, Jackie McDermott were some of the Ballyshannon players. Full team not listed.

June 2nd, 1950 edition
Resurgent Ballyshannon take their first league points playing against the breeze and faced with a four point deficit a young Ballyshannon team gave a remarkable second half display against Saint Eunan's at Stonewold park, Ballyshannon on Sunday when two goals scored in as many minutes earned for them their first points in the county senior football senior league.

Ballyshannon minors had narrow escape
Ballyshannon minors by the narrow margin of one point disposed of Bundoran minors at Stonewold Park, Ballyshannon on Sunday in the county championship fixture. Down five points (2-1 to 0-2) at half time they went on to win in the second moiety with the score 1-6 to 2-2.

August 11th, 1950 edition
With a great second half recovery Donegal Town reversed the verdicts of the two league games between the clubs by defeating Killygordon by nine points to one goal four points in the semi-final of the Donegal Senior Football Championship (Dr. Maguire Cup) at Glenties on Sunday and so qualified for the final with St Eunan's on Ardara on August 20th.

A place kicker of unerring judgement who could score from almost any angle or range, Ardara's Sean McGettrick hit the headlines at Saint Molaise Park, Irvinestown on Sunday when he registered eleven points in the game against Fermanagh in the Northern section of the national football league.

Ballyshannon juveniles will try again
Mr. Sean Slevin, Ballyshannon, vice chairman presided at a special meeting of the south Donegal Divisional board GAA in the Market House, Ballyshannon on Sunday when the position of the juvenile football championship was considered.

Connolly cup game postponed
When Ballyshannon turned out at Stonewold Park, Ballyshannon on Sunday to meet Corlea in the Connolly cup the visitors were unable to field a team and the game was called off. The Corlea team was filled out from side-line and a friendly game was played.

Teachers congratulated on work for youth
The formention of a schools board to cater for interests of youths was among a number of proposals submitted at the south Donegal Divisional Board GAA in Saint Patrick's Hall, Bundoran, Mr Sean Slevin, presiding.
The Annual Board Ceili held in the Rock Hall, Ballyshannon this year proved by far the most successful ever sponsored by the board, both from a social and financial point of view it was an unqualified success.

Ballyshannon players honoured by Ulster Selectors
Jim Gallagher, the young Ballyshannon centre half back whose sparkling display for Donegal this year marked him as one of the ablest players in the province has been selected to take part in an Ulster trial at Ballybay on February 11th prior to the selection of next year's Railway Cup team.
