Brave Aodh Ruadh denied by Buncrana
Under 14 Hurling
On Thursday last the under 14s played MacCumhaill's in the championship semi-final in Ballybofey. The game was played on the tight training pitch at MacCumhaill's and the lack of space made it a very hard physical game. The Ballyshannon lads put on a great fighting display against a bigger MacCumhaill's team. Every member of the 17 man panel played their part and ensured the Ernesiders ran out comfortable winners on a 1-8 to 0-2 score line ensuring that they qualified for their fourth final in a row at that age group against their great rivals Buncrana. Thanks to all the parents who brought the team to this game.
Less than 72 hours later the lads had to travel to O'Donnell Park, Letterkenny to take on the Inishowen men. The old saying goals win matches was true of this final, our lads put on a great display of hurling with many of the lads having to play through the pain barrier having not fully recovered from injuries received in the semi-final. The first half showed that both teams were very evenly matched the only difference being the Buncrana men's ability to score the majors. The half time score was Buncrana 4-2 Aodh Ruadh 0-3. The exertions of a long difficult season on this small squad began to show in the second half, but the lads never gave up and fought to the end and finished the game strongly. The character of this team shone in this game as despite being under serious pressure and tiredness setting in they never surrendered and gave their all representing their club. It was acknowledged by all that the final score line of 7-8 to 3-4 didn't reflect the closeness of the contest. It was a very entertaining match for all present and all agreed that these two teams are worthy representatives for Donegal in Féile na nGael in July. There was no shame in losing to this strong Buncrana team and all involved with the team are proud of the part the lads played in a very enjoyable and exciting game full of passion and commitment. Thanks to all the parents who travelled to Letterkenny and gave great support to the lads.
