Aodh Ruadh claim minor league title
Under 18 Hurling League Final
27 June 2013
Aodh Ruadh 3-9
Buncrana 2-8
Pride of place this week goes to the minors who won the minor league on Thursday night defeating Buncrana in the final. As has been the norm between these two teams who have contested finals at under 14, under 16 and now minor since 2009 it was a tough battle with every ball vigorously contested.
The sides gave their all on a lovely evening for hurling. Both teams were slow to get going as there was a lot of nerves. Slowly but surely Aodh Ruadh began to take control in the first half and led at half time, 3-4 to 1-1. We were aware of the great battling qualities of this Buncrana team and we expected them to come storming back into the game in the second half and they certainly did. They closed the gap to two points at one stage but the Aodh Ruadh lads dug deep and finished strongly to win on a 3-9 to 2-8 score line.
It's a great achievement for this very young squad, only two of whom are overage next year, to win this county title. Great credit is due to the lads for the effort they've put in over the years and sticking with it when others didn't make themselves available. Thanks to the parents who drove the squad to the match and thanks to all our loyal supporters who attended the game and gave great support to the lads.
County senior manager Ray Durack presented the cup to Aodh Ruadh's captain Eddie Lynch. Ray spoke of the great display of hurling put on by both teams and he said he had no doubt that many of the players would go on and represent Donegal at senior level. Eddie thanked the Aodh Ruadh management for all their work and concluded by thanking Buncrana for a great game.
