Sligo claim O'Keefe cup

On Saturday the Peter O' Keefe Under 15 Connacht/Ulster tournament was played in Fr Tierney Park between Sligo and Donegal, with the Yeats County winning 4.12 to 2.11. Aodh Ruadh were well represented on the day with 7 lads on the panel Kieran Daly, Jason Granaghan, Caelan Drummond, Brendan Gillespie, Oisin Rooney (captain), Shane Mc Grath and Garret Sheerin, all of the lads played very well and after a poor start Donegal fought back well but just left themselves too much to do. Donie O'Keefe presented the Corn Peadar O Cuiv Cup to Sligo captain Mikey Gordon. Rosaleen O'Keefe (Peter's wife) thanked all who had helped make the day such a success, she thanked the Aodh Ruadh Club for hosting the game. John Rooney Chairman Aodh Ruadh Juvenile Hurling Committee spoke of his disappointment at how this years event was organised by the Donegal Games Developmemt Manager Michael Murphy, and assured the O'Keefe family that there would be more teams taking part in next years's event. He spoke of the late Peter O' Keefe's work for underage hurling in Aodh Ruadh, Donegal and Ulster and how it wouldn't be forgotten. He thanked Sligo for coming to play the final, he also thanked Donegal manager Ray Durack for attending the event and bringing the Nicky Rackard Cup with him, he also thanked the Donegal Captain Joe Boyle and team mate Danny Cullen who came with Ray to show their respect for the late Peter O'Keefe. Both Ray and Danny spoke to all about how important a tournament this is and how important it is to honour such great workers as Peter.
