Hurlers get 2014 going with a win
Ulster Club Hurling League
30 March 2014
Aodh Ruadh 4-14
Strabane Shamrocks 2-13
Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh
The senior hurlers got their Ulster league campaign off to a cracking start on Sunday evening when they dispatched an below par Strabane Shamrocks side in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. Aodh Ruadh were without county star Paul Sheridan, who was ruled out when he picked up an injury in the warm-up, however were they well on top throughout and a 1-8 to 0-8 half-time score did not adequately reflect the Ernesiders superiority. Ballyshannon upped it in the second half and their superior fitness helped them come out on the right side of a 4-14 to 2-13 scoreline. Mickey Bowering hit the back of the net twice, while Paul Hughes and Ciaran Kilgannon also raised green flags for the homesters. A lot of good performances from men in white and green. Ciaran Rami made his senior debut and gave a very assured display at half back. Peter Horan started for Sheridan and did a lot of damage from half forward while Declan Browne showed his quality when sprung from the bench. Aodh Ruadh's next assignment takes them to the venue that will become their second home over the coming few month, the Garvaghey complex in the heart of Tyrone. They will be taking on Sean Treacey's of Lurgan on Sunday evening as they bid to maintain their winning start to the season.
