Bank Holiday Monday saw Aodh Ruadh host the annual Billy Finn / John Larkin under 14 tournament. Five teams took part in this year's competition Annaghdown (Galway), Tooreen (Mayo), Ballinascreen (Derry), Saint Eunan's and Aodh Ruadh. It was played on a round robin basis with some great displays of hurling throughout the day. Aodh Ruadh had great victories over Annaghdown, Ballinascreen and Saint Eunan's in the group stages. After the league section the pairings for the two finals were confirmed. The cup final saw the host club up against a strong Ballinasceen team while the shield final saw a Connacht derby between Annaghdown and Tooreen. The Derry lads proved worthy winners of the cup final. They were able to call on a panel of 27 so fatigue was no problem for them, while the huge efforts the 17 Aodh Ruadh lads put in over four games caught up with them in the decider. The shield final was a much closer affair and after a tough battle the title headed down the N17 to Annaghdown who were two point winners. The whole day was a fitting tribute to the memory of two former legends who kept hurling alive in Aodh Ruadh for a long number of years.
