Gaoth Dobhair on top in the downpour

DIVISION 1A
Aodh Ruadh 0-07
Gaoth Dobhair 0-14
Sean Perry reports.

In one of very few fixtures to proceed on Sunday last, Aodh Ruadh were comprehensively beaten by an impressive Gweedore outfit in dreadful conditions at Fr. Tierney Park. In spite of having taken the lead in the fourth minute through Pauric Buggy, the Ballyshannon side were overwhelmed by their opponents for the remainder of the half, Gweedore amassing 11 unanswered points in a powerful display of disciplined tackling, good handling and pinpoint accuracy in front of goal.

James Gallagher (4), Sean Diver (5), Stephen Cassidy and Thomas Diver were the Gweedore players on the mark with all but one point coming from play.

The introduction of Val Murray and Philip O'Reilly in the second half gave the Aodh Ruadh attack a little more punch, Shane Ward and Michael Ward fired over points early in the new half to give the home side the slightest chance of a comeback. However, the absence of injured duo, Brian Roper and Niall McCready was of huge significance to the Ernesiders.

However, they were left to rue a number of missed chances, a goalbound effort off the boot of Barry Ward hopped off goalkeeper, Patrick Duffy with eight points between the sides. Exquisite points from Gallagher and Ronan McNelis late on closed out the game and ensured Gweedore put a third convincing win under their belt in division 1A. In defence, Christopher Cannon, Sean Nancy Gallagher and Kevin Cassidy were excellent while the aforementioned scorers also stood out for the Gweedore men.
