Thirds get draw with Jekyll and Hyde performance
DIVISION 4 LEAGUE
8 May 2005
Gaoth Dobhair 1-09
Aodh Ruadh 2-06
Steven Perry reports.
The Thirds yet again managed to turn in a Jekyll and Hyde performance, this time Gweedore were the opposition. After a strong opening period the Ernesiders went into the break with a sizable eight point margin of 2-5 to 0-3.
An early goal from Joe Watson set Aodh Ruadh on their way and further scores from Loughlin, Watson, Vaughan and Perry stretched the away side's advantage. Vaughan and Dolan were completely dominant at midfield in the opening thirty minutes, any attacks from the home side were few and far between. Just before the break Aodh Ruadh netted once more. A sideline kick by Christy Dolan was diverted at the last minute beyond the reach of the Gaoth Dobhair net minder. Initially confusion arose over the scorer. Thankfully all doubt has now been eradicated it can be confirmed that the goal was carved out by the industrious Steven Perry.
It's fair to say that the second half was a different affair. In the dying moments Christy Dolan pointed to salvage a draw for the Thirds. Unfortunately due to the website's policy on foul language and excessive swearing, the rest of the second half will remain forgotten.
Positives to be taken from the game include the team performance displayed in the first half. But perhaps more significantly, the fact that we don't have to travel to Gaoth Dobhair again this season.
