Naomh Columba win out in relegation dogfight

DIVISION 1A
9 October 2005
Aodh Ruadh 1-09
Naomh Columba 1-12
Sean Perry reports.

This relegation dogfight saw the men from Glen call upon all their battling qualities to run out three point winners at Fr. Tierney Park on Saturday evening. Paddy Hegarty's side fell behind to a rather lucky Damien Conlon goal after a quarter hour, but points from the evergreen Noel Hegarty and a well taken Gary Kennedy goal had them in a 1-7 v 1-3 lead at half-time.

With so much at stake, tempers became frayed at numerous stages of the second half as Aodh Ruadh clawed their way back into the contest. Val Murray, Seamus Kane (2) and centre-half back, Martin Gallagher all pointed but Naomh Columba held strong in the closing stages with the younger Hegarty brother, Noel and Kennedy sealing the victory with late scores.
