Second consecutive league win for Aodh Ruadh

Division 1A
7 May 2006
Aodh Ruadh 0-13
Four Masters 0-10

Sean Perry reports from Father Tierney Park.

Aodh Ruadh recorded their second consecutive win at Fr. Tierney Park taking the scalp of a Four Masters side still searching a first win of the season. Minus the stylish Karl Lacey, Four Masters also handed the goalkeeping jersey to Martin Cassidy meaning Paul Durcan was kept in reserve.

It was a tough game, referee, Jimmy White was kept busy and issued a total of nine yellow cards, Four Masters Michael Doherty picked up a second yellow two minutes from time following a clash with Seamus Kane.

Aodh Ruadh boss, PJ McGowan was minus a number of important players himself, Paul Kane, Eamon O'Donnell and Val Murray were all absent from the side which defeated Gweedore last week, Thomas McPhelim and Michael Ward are both recovering from long term injuries.

Only a point separated the sides at the interval, it was John Joe O'Shea's side that led by six points to five after an entertaining opening half.

However, the home side began the second period very brightly, unanswered points from Kane, Anthony Boyle, Shane Ward and Garret Blake had the Ballyshannon side nine points to six ahead with 20 minutes to play. The accurate Michael Doherty and substitute Joel Carr did claw their side back into the game but Aodh Ruadh upped the ante once more in the last ten minutes and with strong performances all over the field, Shane Ward from a free, Blake (2) and Brian Roper ensured the home side would hold on for victory.
