Impressive Aodh Ruadh just too strong for Termon

Senior Football Division 1B
19th October 2008
Termon 0-08
Aodh Ruadh 0-11

Aodh Ruadh proved to be too strong for Termon in this Division 1B encounter yesterday afternoon.

Playing into a very stiff breeze, Termon got off to the brighter start with points from the lively Trevor Alcorn and Kevin McMenamin, before Niall McCready pointed for Ballyshannon. Brendan Robinson and Brian Roper exchanged points before Termon shot four wides from good positions.

Val Murray who had a fine hour in the green and white for Aodh Ruadh posted another point before Michael Ward put Aodh Ruadh two going into the half time break.

At the start of the second half manager Tommy Ryan made some changes to his back line which was under pressure from Roper and Murray. In came Joe O'Donnell in place of PJ McFadden. This had an immediate impact with O'Donnell driving forward to put Paddy McDaid in for an excellent point. But with conditions heavy this was a day for the experienced men to show their true colours.

Murray and Roper combined to extend the Aodh Ruadh lead, which was cut by John McCafferty drilling over an excellent point from all of 45 metres. Val Murray chipped in two more points before Christy Connaghan notched up a replay for Termin. Kevin McCafferty, the Termon stand in goalkeeper made a good save from Kyron Whoriskey pushing out a goal bound shot for a 45. Trever Alcorn fired over another tremendous point only for Val Murray and Conor Gurn to peg on another two points for Aodh Ruadh. Termon's final score came from Kevin McMenamin leaving Aodh Ruadh three point winners at the final whistle.

This was a team effort from Aodh Ruadh with the big performances coming from Val Murray, Brian Roper, and man of the match Stephen Ward. Aodh Ruadh's defensive sector was especially outstanding in the second half when Ballyshannon played into the teeth of a gale.

Best for Termon were Kevin McGettigan, James Doherty and Trevor Alcorn

Referee Robbie O'Donnell had an excellent game with sensible decisions. He issued six yellow cards, split evenly, three apiece between the teams.
