Aodh Ruadh needed a win against a strong Downings side to force their first round championship tie to a play-off. They managed to do that last Saturday with a hard-fought four point win in Father Tierney Park. Downings were missing a couple of players and Aodh Ruadh were able to capitalise going into a good lead in the first half thanks in part to a Diarmuid Keown goal. Downings made a fight of it in the second half, but missed some crucial frees when the game was in the melting pot. The Ernesiders were able to kick on, helped by a well-struck goal by Sean Perry. Ronan Drummond was Aodh Ruadh's man of the match giving an outstanding performance from his berth at wing back.
