Aodh Ruadh reserves off to a flyer
Senior Football Division 3
27 March 2011
Aodh Ruadh 2-21
Naomh Bríd 1-5
John Hughes reports from Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.
Aodh Ruadh reserves got off to a highly encouraging start in division 3 with a comprehensive win over Naomh Bríd. Things were tight enough in the opening exchanges, however after a superb goal from Steven Perry Aodh Ruadh moved up a gear and had too much firepower for the Ballintra/Laghey men. Chris 'Spanny' Goan cracked over four mighty points in the first half and the rumour is that a bet might have been involved in Spanny's eagerness to shoot. There was plenty of good work in defence too. Barry Travers went through an ocean of work at centre half back, while Ronan McGurrin made a number of well-read interceptions at full back. Another young player, Alan Finan also shone defensively and on the break. Around the centre of the pitch Martin Gallagher and Matthew Thompson were well on top, with Pauric Loughlin and Diarmuid McInerney hoovering up a power of ball. That pair of half forwards accounted for 1-6 between them and they set-up many of Aodh Ruadh's other scores.
