Reserves book their place in next round of championship
Intermediate Reserve Football Championship
2 July 2011
Fanad Gaels 0-7
Aodh Ruadh 0-12
Pairc Ui Shiail, Portsalon
Aodh Ruadh go into the next round of the intermediate championship thanks to a win based on an exceptional defensive performance. The Ernesiders started well and were three points up shortly after the throw-in. It was a lead Fanad Gaels were unable to reel in despite their best efforts. Thanks mainly to a superb save from Paul Kane just before the break, the half time score was 0-7 to 0-3 in favour of the visitors. After the break Fanad came out with renewed appetite for the battle and threw everything they had at Aodh Ruadh. Thanks to tremendous defending Aodh Ruadh weathered that storm and rifled over a few scores in the final quarter to seal their ticket to the next round. Best for Aodh Ruadh were Paul Kane who was in top form in nets, Barry Travers who did a fine job of nullifying Fanad's danger man in midfield, and Diarmuid McInerney and Garret Blake who picked off some good scores. The defence, as a unit, were outstanding and Rian Treanor was probably the leading candidate for man of the match.
