Division 3 Reserve Football League
6 April 2012
Downings 1-10
Aodh Ruadh 2-7
Páirc na nDunaibh
The reserves continued their unbeaten progress with a 1-10 to 1-10 draw which displayed great reserves of character. Aodh Ruadh played into the teeth of a gale in the first half and found themselves going in at the break 1-9 to 0-3 down. The second half was a different affair as Aodh Ruadh shut up shop to concede just one score in the half and steadily chip away at the homesters nine point lead. The decisive play of the game came when Niall Murray won a free in range of the posts with time running. The free ended up being converted to a throw ball. Aodh Ruadh won the ball from the throw-in and Gerard McIntyre was unleashed on a surge on goal where upon he was pulled down and a penalty awarded. Dermot Slevin coolly stepped up and dispatched the ball to the back of the net with the last kick of the game to level the tie. Karl O'Brien made a great return in goal for Aodh Ruadh while Kieran Keown and Pauric Storey were both superb, frequently striking forward from deep. Niall Murray had another excellent match as the fulcrum of the attack. Ronan Matthews took some pictures of the game.
