Red Hugh's weather Aodh Ruadh's second half onslaught
Division 3 Football League
27 May 2012
Aodh Ruadh 2-6
Red Hugh's 0-8
Monellan Park, Killygordon
Two early goals were a hammer blow which Aodh Ruadh never quite recovered from as they went down by 2-6 to 0-8 away to Red Hugh's. The homesters were 2-1 to 0-0 up after ten minutes, indeed it was 20 minutes into the game before Aodh Ruadh got their first score. It was all Red Hugh's and Aodh Ruadh seemed to be showing very little appetite for the fight, although it should be acknowledged that the visitors were playing into a very strong breeze. Philip O'Reilly rang the changes at half time and the introduction of Kerry Ryan, Shane Ward and Brian Roper saw a very different Aodh Ruadh side take the field for the second half, in every respect. They tore into the game with championship intensity and this saw things getting a bit fractious, with a lot of stoppages and almost 10 minutes of added time. The Ernesiders constrained Killygordon to a single second half point and at one stage every member of the Aodh Ruadh team, apart from young Michael Ward and Paul Kane were in the opposition half. Although Kerry Ryan and James O'Donnell dominated the middle of the field it was poor free taking and shooting which proved to be Aodh Ruadh's ultimate undoing. It was a downbeat note upon which to bid farewell to Johnny Gallagher who was captain for the day prior to his departure to America. Nevertheless Aodh Ruadh can take much solace from a hugely impressive performance in second half.
