Aodh Ruadh delivered a strong performance to take the points from Lifford on a scoreline of 2-7 to 0-5 last Saturday. Ballyshannon's cause wasn't helped when Michael Sticky Ward went off after five minutes with hamstring injury. However, playing with the wind in the first half, Aodh Ruadh settled well after than blow. David McGurrin scored a penalty and then turned provider for Donagh McIntyre to drive home a second goal which saw the visitors go in at the break leading by 2-5 to 0-3. The Ernesiders switched to defensive mode for the second half and fought a successful rearguard action. David Dolan was exceptional excellent in the second half, sweeping in around the half back line and doing much to alleviate the pressure.
It was a great all-round team display. The returning pair of Peter Boyle in goals and Johnny Gallagher at full back were both superb also, Boyle also getting on the score board with a 45. Aodh Ruadh were also well served by a fine centre field performance from Stephen Ward and James O'Donnell. Ronan McGurrin's excellent start to the season continued while up front Diarmaid McInerney with two points and Ryan Granaghan with a point both made valuable contributions.
