Aodh Ruadh attend the Eamonn Byrne Memorial match

Senior football challenge
26 October 2013
Killybegs 1-20
Aodh Ruadh 3-8

Aodh Ruadh took part in the Eamonn Byrne memorial match on Saturday, a game staged on the 25th anniversary of Eamonn's sad and untimely passing during a game in between Aodh Ruadh and Killybegs in Father Tierney Park. There was great pomp about proceedings, with Saint Catherine's band on hand to lend a bit of razzamatazz and the teams being presented to the Byrne family beforehand. Both clubs fielded strong teams, with no less than 12 of Killybeg's starting 15 from the county final on show. The weather condition exerted an influence on the game itself and playing with the wind proved a decided advantage. The Fishermen won out in the end, winning on a scoreline of 1-20 to 3-8. Damien Cleary hit the net twice for Ballyshannon, while Johnny Gethins capped a fine display with 1-2 to his credit. A fine spread of refreshments were provided afterwards and great thanks are owed to the Killybegs club who looked after us magnificently on the day.
