Win takes Aodh Ruadh top

Senior Division 3
13 June 2015
Aodh Ruadh 3-11
Downings 0-13
Páirc na nDunaibh

Aodh Ruadh played into a stiff breeze in the first half, with Downings taking an early lead with two points from play in the first two minutes. Ballyshannon responded with a point, but downings then took advantage of the breeze, landing two long range frees to go three points ahead. Peter Boyle made two super saves at this stage, one in particular was world class, to keep us in the game. Aodh Ruadh continued to press and Johnny Gallagher made a brilliant run through the Downings defence to go one on one with the keeper only to fire just wide. The Ernesiders then scored a few from play after a good spell of possession, and went level approaching half time with a great goal, Johnny Gallagher providing Barry mulligan with the pass, and mulligan with a clinical finish. The sides turned over at the break level 1-3 to 0-6.

Aodh Ruadh dominated the third quarter with the wind behind us, outscoring Downings 1-3 to 0-1 in that period, the goal coming from David McGurrin. Downings stayed in touch with frees from Lorcan Connor, but the Ballyshannon men finished strongly with a goal from Michael 'Sticky' Ward, and points from Diarmaid McInerney. Calum 'Cookie' O'Halloran did very well on Downings star man Lorcan Connor. Johnny Gallagher was brilliant in defence and caused problems all day for Downings with his attacking runs, Damien Cleary dominated midfield, and the forwards as a whole worked tirelessly for the 60 minutes, and took their chances well. The final score was 3-9 to 0-11.
