Battling reserves impress despite defeat

Senior Reserve Division 3
28 March 2016
Fanad Gaels 0-7
Aodh Ruadh 0-6
Portsalon.

Aodh Ruadh reserves opened their 2016 season account with a one point defeat away to Fanad Gaels.

There was very little between the sides all through the contest. With scoring made difficult due to a strong crossfield wind in the first half, the teams went in level at just 2 points apiece at the break, with both Aodh Ruadh scores coming from Michael 'Sticky' Ward.

The hosts benefited from an increasingly strong wind which turned downfield for the second half and managed to knock over a few points from distance.

Points from Nicky Sheerin and another brace from Sticky Ward made sure that the visitors were never more than a point behind.

Despite their best efforts though, the Erne men were just unable to draw level in the final stages, with Fanad winning out by a points.

Aodh Ruadh can take good heart from their performance having created plenty of scoring changes which were more than enough to have won them the game. The defence held solid throughout, captain Spanny Goan and Darren Gethins got through a sight of work around the middle and Sticky Ward looks likes he's in the mood for terrorising defences for another season.
