Aodh Ruadh do it the hard way against Glen

Senior Division 2
29 July 2017
Aodh Ruadh 1-12
Naomh Columba 1-7
John Hughes reports from Father Tierney Park

Aodh Ruadh continued their promotion push with a hard-earned 1-12 to 1-7 victory over Naomh Columba in Father Tierney Park on Saturday. The hosts missed the influence of David McGurrin and scoring power of Darren Drummond as they struggled to unlock a Glencolumcille side heavily on the defensive. James O'Donnell's men had the greater balance of first half attacking possession, but were only 0-5 to 0-4 at half-time. indeed, they could be thankful that Glen hadn't brought their shooting boots as if they had taken some of their handy scoreable chances in that period they could easily have been ahead. Placed balls from Philip Patton and Peter Boyle were followed by points from play by David Dolan, Seamus Kane and Shane McGrath. Points at the start of the second half from Peter Boyle and Philip Patton (2) opened up a four point gap, but Naomh Columba continued to plug hang on to Ballyshannon's coatails. They hit the front after 43 minutes when Paul Doherty raided for a goal, but Eamonn McGrath quickly restored parity. In the last five minutes Aodh Ruadh just had that bit in reserve to push for the win. David Dolan won a penalty which Philip Patton rammed home before further points from Johnny Gethins and Patton (2) sealed the points for the Ernesiders.
