Reserves weather late Termon rally to take points

Senior Reserve Division 2
25 May 2019
Aodh Ruadh 3-8
Termon 2-8
David reports from Father Tierney Park

The reserves got the better of a typically competitive Termon outfit on Saturday evening. Two first half goals from the visitors had them in control as they held a 2-5 to 1-6 lead at the break. A well worked goal palmed in by JJ Cassidy and a brace from both Michael 'Sticky' Ward and Anthony Coughlin along with a Cassidy point kept the hosts within reach. A cracking effort from distance by Conal Sweeny after a strong run before the break was the score of the half.

The second half was to be all Aodh Ruadh. Cassidy raised the green flag again with a rocket to the roof of the net shortly after the restart. A mighty shift by the home back line kept Termon to just three points in the half despite the visitors having the slight wind advantage. Sticky Ward pointed and later found the net after a good ball in from Coughlin to stretch the lead to four points. Termon responded, but Coughlin hit his third point for Aodh Ruadh to see out the win at 3-8 to 2-8.

All 17 men used put in a tremendous shift and fully deserved the win. Gary Ward in nets had a great game and couldn't be faulted for the goals. Adam Clarke and David McLoone controlled the back with great cover from James O'Donnell and Ryan O'Brien. Martin Gallagher contested everything and bossed the middle with Ronan Drummond, while up front Darren McNulty and Sticky Ward were telepathic in reading each other's moves. Cassidy was immense and took his 2-1 well.
