Secretary's Address to Club AGM - 4 December 2016
My first year in this role has been busy and eventful, yet I have enjoyed every minute of it.
The duties got under way soon after the AGM with the first one being the Kickabout for Coleman, which was held on a very wet day, Christmas week. The monies raised went to two deserving charities, Grasp and Hand in Hand. Many thanks to all who played and supported on the day.
Throughout the 2016 season a huge effort went into maintaining finances and improving park facilities. A huge thanks needs to go to Catherine for her tireless work on keeping the finances in check and to the park committee for their continued dedication to improving both Fr Tierney Park and Pairc Aoidh Ruaidh.
Many fundraising events were held throughout the year. They included quizzes, a Euro Shot Challenge, bag packing, cyclethon to name but a few. Fundraising is a vital part of keeping our club running and many thanks to those who ran, participated and supported these fundraising events.
Going through the various reports while getting ready for todays AGM, it is evident that our club is going from strength to strength. This was evident firstly by our senior footballers being promoted to Division 2. Congratulations to the team and management on their success. Congratulations must also be given to the U21 footballers and managers on reaching the County Final.
With the U12's in both football and hurling being successful, the U16 hurlers winning division 2 championship and the minor footballers reaching their 2nd successive Championship Final, underage football and hurling had a good year and many thanks to all the managers who dedicated a massive amount of time to these teams. I would also like to thank the players who put in huge commitment and effort at training and games. They go out every week and represent Aodh Ruadh and always do so in a respectful manner.
Thank you to all the sponsors. Your contributions and generosity to Aodh Ruadh is most valued.
Thank you to Jean Sheerin who makes sandwiches for home games and thank you to Peter Conlon for his help with pitch bookings.
Thank you to Johnny Gallagher and the park employees for maintaining pitches, dressing rooms and the club house.
Lastly I would like to thank all who made my first year in this role as secretary a joy to do. I was never left wanting for support or assistance. I am very grateful for the help and support from both Diarmuid and Emma. They made the transition very simple and continued to support throughout the year.
I need to give a special mention of thanks to Gerard, who was always on the other side of the phone when needed and helped me with numerous situations throughout the year.
Looking forward to 2017.
Mise le meas,
Lisa Nic Thiarnan
