Secretary's Address to Club AGM - 25 November 2017
In what has been my 3rd year as club secretary, it has been another great year to be involved in this club. The year started out with Bord na nOg interactive quiz and has been none stop ever since.
In January we held the dinner dance, which was a very successful night, so much so, the dinner dance this year has been scheduled for Jan 19th!!
2018 continued to have huge efforts from all involved in maintaining and improving both Fr. Tierney Park and Pairc Aoidh Ruaidh. Thanks must go to all involved in the maintaining the upkeep of our park - to the Park Committee who work tirelessly all year to ensure that both parks are in their best condition.
This was, as usual, an action-packed year for fundraisers with all sub committees running various events, including quizzes, Duck Race, Last Man Standing, Clothes Drive and the still ongoing Premier League Killers. Many thanks to all involved in running these events. All fundraising is not only appreciated but vital to the success of the running of our club. Going forward, 2019 will be a big year for the club where fundraising will be pivotal to our park development. I ask that all sub committees/ teams liaise with the treasurer if organising fundraising events. This will ensure that fundraising events will not clash, therefore giving all committees, teams etc. the opportunity to fundraise to their best potential.
In what was a league campaign of ups and downs for both our seniors and reserves, championship brought some of the highlights of the year. The seniors had a fantastic championship run but were unfortunate to lose out to Glenfin in the final. Congratulations to the reserve team on winning the intermediate reserve championship. The week leading up to the championship finals was one of the highlights of my year as secretary and I must thank James, Aidan, Anthony and the players for their co-operation throughout that week.
Congratulations to all the successful underage teams and management, it is a testament to all the hard work and effort being done by the managers, assistants and players themselves. Many thanks to all the managers and assistants involved, who have dedicated a massive amount of time to these teams. I would also like to thank the players who put in huge commitment and effort at training and games. They go out every week and represent Aodh Ruadh and always do so in a respectful manner.
Thank you to all the sponsors. Aodh Ruadh greatly appreciated your generosity and support throughout the year.
Thank you to Jean Sheerin who makes sandwiches for home games and thank you to Peter Conlon for his help with pitch bookings. Thank you to Johnny for all his work on making sure the pitches are match ready. Thank you to all the park employees for maintaining pitches, dressing rooms and the club house.
I would like to thank everyone who makes this job a delight to do. I enjoy working with you all. This year a special thanks must go to Gerard and Catherine. They have made the last 3 years in this role a pleasure to do and I could not have done it without them. I have some great memories of the last 3 years and as they both step down, I want to acknowledge their contribution and dedication to Aodh Ruadh. I wish them both the very best in the future.
Lastly, I have expressed my interest in staying on as club secretary and hope to work with you all again in 2019
Mise le meas,
Lisa Nic Thiarnan
