Work continues apace in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh, and you can play your part
As part of the on-going development and improvement works at our grounds, refurbishment of changing rooms three and four is nearing completion. Work has commenced on refurbishing changing rooms one and two and these will not be available for use for the next two weeks. The Park/Development Committee has been inundated with requests for the use of our playing facilities since Christmas and has helped out where possible. Due to the inclement weather and constant use, access to playing and training fields has to be limited. At club level it has been agreed that, for now, priority for the use of the floodlit training field at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh will be given to the club's adult football and hurling teams. These sessions must be booked in advance with Peter Conlon. Other teams may use the club's floodlit facility at the School Field which is also ideal for team preparations. Priority for playing field space will be given to competitive preparation rather than development. Work on the new fitness trail and hurling wall at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh will continue over the coming weeks, depending on weather conditions, and these new club facilities will be commissioned as soon as possible to ease the pressure on existing training amenities. The Parachute Jump fundraiser being organised by the Park/Development Committee with Conal Gallagher as co-ordinator now has seven committed participants. At least three more volunteers from the club are required urgently. The proceeds will go towards the €50,000 development programme currently underway at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh and if successful, will make a significant contribution to completing the programme of works there this year. These works are benefitting all sectors of the club and each sub-committee is asked to take responsibility for putting two or three participants forward and helping them with their fund-raising. Please make contact directly with Conal Gallagher (0862112812) if you will participate or become part of the support team for one of the participants.Registration 2015

Underage hurling training resumes for all ages on Sunday 1st March. Over the last 10 years a huge amount of work has gone into underage hurling in the club allowing us to field teams at all age groups for the last few years. There is a huge workload involved in fielding all these teams and at the moment we only have a handful of people involved. We need more people to come on board and help out if we are to continue fielding at all age groups. We are especially looking for help with our under 14s. Anyone interested in helping out in any way is asked to contact John Rooney 086-2587793, you will be surprised to find out how enjoyable and rewarding it is.Coaching workshops and courses

Aodh Ruadh commenced pre-season preparation with a game of four 20 minute quarters against Melvin Gaels on Sunday in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. It wasn't an ideal day for football, being windy, wet, dull and overcast, but there was an encouraging display from the homesters. A few new faces, both returnees and young prospects showed up well as Aodh Ruadh emerged the better of the sides over the 80 minutes, Nathan Boyle, Philip Patton and Callum O'Halloran all catching the eye. A well-drilled Ballyshannon also impressed in the defensive sector as they contained the Leitrim side manfully. We have some pictures from the match up on aodhruadh.org.Our minors start their 2015 league campaign next Sunday 22nd February, away to Naomh Ultan in Dunkineely with a 12 noon throw in.

There is a Bord na nÓg meeting this Tuesday, 24th February at 8pm. It is absolutely essential we have all committee members present at this meeting. The minors got their 2015 campaign off to a good start on Sunday with a 5-15 to 1-2 win over Naomh Ultan. The team has joint captains this year, Eugene Drummond and Calum 'Cookie' O'Halloran. Cookie was the first to have the honour of taking the toss and certainly lead by example throughout the game. In terrible conditions the football was scrappy on both sides for the first ten minutes and midway through the first half the sides were level at 1-2 apiece. The Aodh Ruadh lads then stepped it up a gear with Philip Patton, Shane McGrath and Garreth Sheerin showing their class with some fine scores. Half-time saw the Ballyshannon men go in with a comfortable lead of 2-7 to 1-2. The second half started with much better football coming from the Aodh Ruadh men, but unfortunately man of the match Nathan Boyle and Ryan McKenna, two of the real work horses on the day had to be subbed off due to injury. The next man down was wing forward Dónal Sweeny who spent a long evening in Sligo hospital with a suspect fracture to his shoulder. We wish Dónal all the best for a speedy recovery. The younger members of the panel Conal Sweeny and Sean Taylor gave great performances when introduced. Jason Gallagher had a great game at full forward and along, with Cáelán Drummond, did all that was asked from them. The back line of Eugene Drummond, Jack Darbon and Jason Granaghan had a quiet second half with most of the play in the other end of the field, but they were very quick to respond to the occasional threat. Oisín Rooney was outstanding in the middle of the field, linking up very well with Daniel Warnock and Oisín Roper. The next outing and the first big test for the minors is at home to Naomh Columba on Sunday 8th March.
The first training session of the year for under 14s takes place this Saturday 28th February from 10am-11am in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.
With the Mercy Hall unavailable due to mock examinations, under 6 and under 8 indoor training are on a break. Training resumes in the Mercy Hall at the usual times for under 6s and under 8s on Friday 13th March.
Indoor training continues this Friday 27th February for under 10s in the new hall at Coláiste Cholmcille from 6pm to 7pm followed by the under 12s from 7pm to 8pm, also in the new hall. Under 10s and 12s are asked to remember to bring in any outstanding registration forms and fees. PLEASE NOTE, THERE IS A CHARGE OF €2 PER HEAD TO COVER THE COST OF HALL HIRE. Please bring your own water and wear runners as no other footwear allowed. Parents/Guardians are asked to please collect children promptly after their session is finished.
