Football
Our minors and under 16 await confirmation of their next fixtures.

The under 10s had their last training session of the season on Saturday morning with a run out on Father Tierney Park. The boys are now looking forward to an end of season trip to Ballaghadreen on Saturday, 26th October. Many thanks to Barry and all at O'Neill's Next Door off license for sponsoring the trip. Our under 9s are in action on Saturday, 5th October in game week four of the regional series blitz. Kinlough will be the hosts and further details will be posted on the WhatsApp group.

Our under 8 boys travelled on Saturday to the Dome in the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence, where they played Saint Naul's in a series of challenge games as an end of season treat. The boys had a great time and really enjoyed the experience. Thank you to all the parents for travelling.

Ladies
Our Division 2 minor final has been confirmed for this Saturday in Ballintra. The game will be part of a double header, with the Division 3 final between Saint Eunan's and Kilcar. The Division 3 final throws-in at 12 noon, with our decider against Saint Naul's following at 2pm. We'd love to see a big Ballyshannon support make the short trip to Páirc Naomh Bríd to get behind the Shamettes.

Last Tuesday evening the under 13 girls suffered their first defeat of the season away to a strong Ardara team. While Ardara were on top throughout the first half, two Kayla McDermott goals and one from Halle McGowan and points from Jenna Britton and Leia Roper kept Aodh Ruadh in touch. The second half unfortunately was one way traffic as the schedule of a fourth game and the team's third away from home in ten days caught up with the girls. Points from Emily Gallagher, Katie McLoughlin, and an unlucky own point were all Aodh Ruadh had to show for their second half efforts. Louise Browne in half-backs was the standout player for Aodh Ruadh on the night with the final score 3-26 to 3-5. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers was as follows: Bethany McNamee, Saoirse O'Donnell, Amy McNeely, Mia Duffy, Louise Browne, Emer McGarrigle, Tiah Kane, Jenna Britton (0-1), Niamh Patton, Halle McGowan (1-0), Leia Roper (0-1), Nicole McGrath, Kayla McDermott (2-0), Emily Gallagher (0-1), Katie McLoughlin (0-1). Subs: Eabha Hegarty (for Patton 25 mins), Shiloh Killalea (for Duffy 32 mins), Kali Gallagher (for E Gallagher 35 mins), Bronagh Waugh for O'Donnell 35 mins, Leah O’Malley-Malone for McLoughlin 37 mins, Catherine Garvey for McGowan 38 mins, Emma O'Neill for McGrath 40 mins, Alannah Brennan for McNeely 41 mins, Holly O'Neill for T Kane 42 mins, Anna Meehan for McDermott 43 mins, Sophia Hughes for Browne 43 mins, Emily Kane for McGarrigle 44 mins, Amelia Coyle for Roper 45 mins.
The girls showed great character to bounce back by beating Four Masters in Father Tierney Park on Friday evening. Emily Gallagher opened the scoring with a goal after intercepting a Four Masters kick out, it was followed quickly by a really well worked point by Kayla McDermott. Four Masters responded with a point quickly, but there was only one more score in the first half, a fine Leia Roper point, as Aodh Ruadh led 1-2 to 0-1 at the break. Ballyshannon started the second half with great intent, a Jenna Britton point was quickly followed by a well taken Halle McGowan goal. When Four Masters attacked they met a stubborn Aodh Ruadh defence with Amy McNeely, Nicole McGrath and Saoirse O'Donnell marking tightly and blocking well. When Four Masters did get through Bethany McNamee refused to be beaten in the Erneside goals. A brilliantly taken Kayla McDermott goal, followed by another Jenna Britton point eased Aodh Ruadh over the line, while the scoring was completed by a Four Masters own goal which left it Aodh Ruadh 4-4 Four Masters 0-1. A great team performance with stand out performances from Bethany McNamee in goals, Nicole McGrath and player of the match Amy McNeely in the full back line, Tiah Kane was brilliant at half back, while Jenna Britton and Niamh Patton worked superbly together at midfield. Leia Roper was play-maker in chief while Kayla McDermott and Emily Gallagher worked hard for the team and contributed important scores at crucial times.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Bethany McNamee, Saoirse O'Donnell, Nicole McGrath, Amy McNeely, Louise Browne, Tiah Kane, Emer McGarrigle, Jenna Britton (0-2), Niamh Patton, Kayla McDermott (1-1), Leia Roper (0-1), Ava Garvey, Emily Gallagher (1-0), Halle McGowan (1-0) Katie McLoughlin. Subs: Kali Gallagher for McLoughlin 39 mins, Mia Duffy for O'Donnell 40 mins, Emma O'Neill for A Garvey 41 mins, Eabha Hegarty for McNeely 42 mins, Bronagh Waugh for Browne 43 mins, Alannah Brennan for McGowan 44 mins, Catherine Garvey for E Gallagher 44 mins, Holly O'Neill for T Kane 45 mins, Emily Ryan for McDermott 46 mins, Emily Kane for McGarrigle 46 mins.
Next up for the under 13s are Killybegs this Saturday, with the final match of the group stages at home against Bundoran on Saturday 12th October.

The under 12 girls wrapped up their season on Saturday with a trip to the Connacht AirDome. We had 31 girls in attendance and two squads played two games each against Melvin Gaels, it was a great experience for the girls and was followed by a trip to Supermacs on the way home! Thank you to all our coaches for their commitment and hard work throughout the season and well done to all the girls on a fantastic season.

The Ladies Football AGM takes place on Tuesday, 1st October in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh at 7.30pm. We extend a warm invitation to anyone interested in our games to come and join us as we look back over a successful seasons and make plan for an even more ambitious 2025.

Hurling
Our under 16s were very disappointed and disheartened to lose out on a place in the Championship final last Thursday. They made the long trek to Inishowen to meet Carndonagh in the semi-final. Playing against a strong wind in the first half, for the first 15 minutes or so, it was point for point. However, they then went into the break down by 1-3 and failed to fully recover in the second half, eventually losing out by five points. That sees the end of competitive play for this group but not quite the end of the season. They still have their under 16 tournament, the Billy Finn / John Larkin tournament which they will be hosting over the October bank holiday weekend.

The under 12s continued to celebrate their fantastic B League win last Thursday night when all the players available enjoyed a fun training session and a big feast from Top Pizza. The parents made a presentation to coach, Patrick 'Spanny' McGarrigle, to show their appreciation for all his time and effort with this panel on what has been a great, successful season for the squad.

Our under 10s will have their last training session of the year on Sunday.

Our under 8s had a very enjoyable last training session of the year, where we held a sports day style session. Friday sees their last action of the year when they have their last all-county blitz of the year in the Donegal GAA Centre of Excellence.

Camogie
Social camogie for players aged 16 and upwards continues this Thursday evening at the Coláiste Cholmcille pitch. The session runs from 7pm to 8pm and all ages and skill levels are welcome for some fun camogie.

Underage camogie continues this Wednesday evening on the top pitch at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh from 7pm to 8pm. All are welcome.

Participants need to do module 1 and 2 online first. Please contact Don Langan 087-6274005, if you are someone that might attend. There may still be an opportunity to ref some under 13 games, school games, possibly do a line at under 21 games, and if not, then participants can look ahead to the 2025 season.

Funding boost
Good news for Aodh Ruadh with the announcement that the application to the Sports Capital Scheme submitted by the Park / Development Committee has been successful and a grant of €152,000.00 has been allocated to the club. The application focused on the modernisation of some of our changing room facilities, including additional toilet facilities and shower facilities to better cater for our female players, changing to more energy efficient systems for water heating, a switch to LED lighting on our training pitch, etc. Plans for all of this work will be finalised during the first half of 2025, with works substantially completed in 2026, subject to a good performance by the club raising a certain level of match funding. The club would like to sincerely thank the public representatives who backed our application and we will have further opportunities to acknowledge this support in the future.

RIP Anne Buggy
We extend our deepest condolences to PJ Buggy and the whole Buggy clan and their wide circle of friends on the passing of Anne Buggy recently.

Football
Aodh Ruadh minors recorded a good win in their semi-final on Saturday to book their place in the all-county division 3 decider, Four Masters or Carndonagh providing the opposition. Ballyshannon played against a very strong wind in the first half and produced the team's best 30 minutes of football of the season. First half points from MJ Ward, Barry Campbell and Eoin Cassidy all were good examples of taking the right shot on, then Barry Campbell scored a goal two minutes from the end of the first half to put the Ernesiders 1-5 to 0-1 up going in at half-time. Very solid defence performances from Ted O'Donnell and Caolan McCauley, Rian McCauley and Johnny Lin were responsible for keeping a very lively Letterkenny Gaels attack down to just one point over that first 30 minutes. Ballyshannon picked up where they left off in the second half, scoring another three goals, Barry Campbell raising his second green flag, with James Ward and Liam Doogan also finding the net. Garvey Meade and Tommy Clyne added points as Aodh Ruadh ran out 4-10 to 1-6 winners. A very pleasing day at the office for the home team with Corey Sheridan producing another top class performance in goal. Gareth Brennan and Eoghan Gallagher were very solid in the defence with the attack showing well through out. The substitutes who came in all made good contributions. Fixture details for the final remain to be confirmed, but it would be great to have good support at the decider for this this team who commenced their competitive season in the opening days of April.

The under 9 boys travelled to Belleek on Saturday morning for the fourth week of the regional blitz series. In all 37 boys had a very enjoyable morning, playing four games each. The last blitz will take place next Saturday in Kinlough. Further details will be posted on the team WhatsApp group.

Our boys continued their series of regional blitzes, this time with neighbours Erne Gaels playing the hosts. The 2017 players again played at under 7, joined by some of our under 6 players. The 2016s joined up with some of the under 10 panel. Both teams had at least four games each and played some excellent football. Our last blitz of the series takes place this Saturday in Kinlough.

Ladies
It wasn't to be for the minor ladies on Saturday. In a muted performance they only mustered two Cadhla Dolan frees across the course of the 60 minutes. The full back line of Katie McGowan, Aodhbha O'Donnell and Jessica O'Mahoney battled hard with Megan Murphy and Ciara Larkin further out the pitch giving it their all. Ellen Monaghan also fought hard on her introduction. However, it was to be a tough defeat despite the best efforts of the Aodh Ruadh girls after what had been a very promising season. Thank you to the girls for all their hard work over the course of the season, and also the parents and guardians for their support in 2024.

The under 13 girls travelled to take on Killybegs on Saturday morning. A fortuitous Killybegs goal opened the scoring, but Aodh Ruadh responded well with a Leia Roper point, Killybegs hit back with two points before an instinctive Leah O'Malley-Malone goal was followed by another Leia Roper point to level the match at 1-2 a piece. Killybegs had a purple patch scoring 2-2 to take control of the game, one of the goals a very unfortunate one to concede as it took a massive deflection leaving Bethany McNamee with no chance. Aodh Ruadh responded with Jenna Britton running the length of the pitch to score a brilliant point, Leia Roper followed up with her third point of the half before Killybegs added a point of their own. The last score of the half was a brilliant Tiah Kane point to leave the half time score at 3-5 to 1-5. The second half was a much quieter affair with only five points scored as the conditions worsened, unfortunately all five points coming from the home side. While a disappointing defeat, Aodh Ruadh performed really well with special mentions for Bethany McNamee in goals, Amy McNeely at full back, and Tiah Kane and Louise Browne who were brilliant in the half back line. Jenna Britton and Niamh Patton worked brilliantly together at midfield, while Leia Roper and Katie McLoughlin were the main attacking threats throughout. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorer were as follows Bethany McNamee, Saoirse O'Donnell, Amy McNeely, Bronagh Waugh, Louise Browne, Tiah Kane (0-1), Emer McGarrigle, Jenna Britton (0-1), Niamh Patton, Kayla McDermott, Leia Roper (0-3), Leah O'Malley-Malone (1-0), Kali Gallagher, Halle McGowan, Katie McLoughlin. Subs: Ava Garvey for O'Malley-Malone HT, Emily Gallagher for K Gallagher HT, Mia Duffy for O'Donnell HT, Eabha Hegarty for Waugh 33 mins, Shiloh Killalea for McGarrigle 36 mins, Emma O'Neill for McDermott 38 mins, Catherine Garvey for McLoughlin 39 mins, Sophia Hughes for Browne 43 mins, Holly O'Neill for T Kane 45 mins, Alannah Brennan for Roper 46 mins, Anna Meehan for McGowan 46 mins. The under 13s conclude their league fixtures with a home match against neighbours Bundoran on Saturday at 11am in Father Tierney Park.

The Ladies committee held their AGM last Friday with a lively discussion about developing the game in the coming year. Anybody who would like to get involved in any way in 2025 should contact Niamh Hoey on 083-1021486.

Hurling
Aodh Ruadh's under 21s were out in championship semi-final action last Friday evening against Saint Eunan's at Convoy. The Ballyshannon lads started well with the first three scores coming from frees off the stick of Danny Breen. The Letterkenny replied, scoring next five points to 0-5 to 0-3. Then the first goal of the game came when Aaron Cullen turned and drew the Saint Eunan's defenders towards him before laying the ball off to Liam Doogan who buried it in the back of the net to leave it Aodh Ruadh 1-3 Saint Eunan's 0-5 at the break. A good start to the second half was needed for the lads, but it was Eunan's who get, storing 2-1 in the first ten minutes. But fair play to the Ernesiders, they never gave up and managed to reduce the lead to a point with Danny Breen reeling off five points in succession. The sides swapped points going into the stretch, but hard as Aodh Ruadh tried, they couldn't get the score needed to tie game. They await the winners of Setanta and Carndonagh in the B county final.

Having played together now for over 10 years with many successes and many disappointments under their belts, our under 16 hurlers are being rewarded for all their efforts and improvements with the trip of a lifetime to Limerick next weekend. The lads will be hosted by Patrickswell GAA Club, home of such hurling greats as Aaron Gillane and Diarmuid Byrnes. They will meet and be coached by members of the Limerick senior panel and play in two games against Patrickswell and Kildimo and take part in a number of fun team building exercises. It's a massive organisational challenge and the hurling committee would like to extend their thanks to all involved in organising such a trip, especially to coaches, Mark Sheerin and Paul Sheridan. The trip has only been made possible thanks to generosity of the many sponsors who rolled in to support us including Paul Duffy, Liam Gallagher, Diarmuid Whoriskey, Owen Roe O'Neill, Aiden and Margaret Carty, James O'Donnell, Gary O'Brien, Anthony Coughlin, Kenny McDonald, Beirne Racing, and John McGlynn of Letterkenny.

Our under 10s had a very enjoyable last training session of the year, where we held a sports day style session. Friday sees their last on-field action of the year when they have their final all-county blitz of the year at the Donegal GAA Centre of Excellence.

Our under 8 season finished on Friday evening when the lads took part in the last all-county blitz of the season. We played games against Saint Eunan's, Letterkenny Gaels and Burt, with some fine hurling throughout. On Sunday the squad will join their under 10 club-mates for a trip to the cinema.

The Juvenile Hurling committee AGM will take place on Thursday 24th October at 8pm in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh. We encourage all parents and all interested in developing hurling in Aodh Ruadh to come along on the night.

15 October

Football
Our under 21s are set go into championship action on Saturday, 26th October 2024 with an away assignment against Naomh Conaill.

Meanwhile, our minors are deep in preparations for their Division 3 county final against Carndonagh. Keep an eye on the club's social media output over the course of the week for final build-up and fixture details.

Our boys finished their series of regional blitzes, this time with neighbours Melvin Gaels playing the hosts. The 2017 players again played at under 7, joined by some of our under 6 players. The 2016s joined up with some of the under 10 panel. Both teams had at least four games each and played some excellent football. That is the end of Under 8 activity for the year, thanks to all the coaches and parents for their support, as well as the players for their efforts.

Well done to manager Aiden Murray and mentor Val Murray on steering our neighbours in Melvin Gaels to the Leitrim intermediate championship title after mounting a stunning comeback from ten points down against Allen Gaels. Best of luck to our other neighbours in Erne Gaels ahead of their senior county final this Sunday.

Ladies
The under 23s got their championship campaign under way with an entertaining 5-7 to 3-13 draw against Ardara in Father Tierney Park on Sunday morning. Aodh Ruadh were slow to start in this one and were three points up before Eimear McMahon opened her side's account. Ardara responded with a free, but the Shamettes were starting to move a bit better now and an Andrea Moore point was followed by a well-worked goal from Caitlyn Gallagher. The sides swapped scores to make it all square at 1-2 to 0-5 moving into the second quarter. Ardara registered the next point, but a quickfire 1-1 from Cáit Gillespie sent the Shamettes into the lead for the first time. The visitors came back with a couple of points, but again Aodh Ruadh found the net with Cadhla Dolan slotting home. Ardara responded with a goal of their own, but Emer O'Brien then split the posts with a great shot from an acute angle to give Aodh Ruadh a slender two point half-time advantage, 3-4 to 1-8.
The homesters came storming out in the second half with a lovely slide-rule pass to the bottom corner from Orla Keon three minutes in. That was followed up not long after by Cáit Gillespie's second goal of the day. Ardara kept plugging away though and hit two points, with Cadhla Dolan replying from a placed ball. Ardara struck for their second goal of the day in the 41st minute, but Aodh Ruadh steadied the ship and Eimear McMahon pointed from play to make it 5-6 to 2-10. Another Ardara point was again cancelled out by McMahon in the 50th. With time running out Ardara got themselves a lifeline with a 1-1 salvo seven minutes from time to put just a point between them. It looked like Aodh Ruadh had weathered the storm, but two minutes into added time they turned over the ball and gifted Ardara one last attack which they took full advantage of to take a deserved draw from the encounter. Best for Aodh Ruadh on the day were Síofra Hughes and Andrea McGlynn in the defence, with Orla Keon and Andrea Moore having super games in midfield, and Cáit Gillespie making the difference up front.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Brídín Maguire; Emer McDevitt, Síofra Hughes, Andrea McGlynn; Dáirín Sweeny, Rebecca McLaughlin, Andrea Moore (0-1), Orla Keon (1-0), Emer O'Brien (0-1); Lauren Foy, Cáit Gillespie (2-1), Aoife Travers; Cadhla Dolan (1-1, 1f), Eimear McMahon (0-3, 1f), Caitlyn Gallagher (1-0). This Sunday the team are back in Father Tierney Park for the second round of the competition with Glenfin the opposition for a 10.30am throw-in.

The under 13 girls rounded out their league campaign with a home game against Bundoran on Saturday morning. A quick start from Bundoran saw them race into an early lead of 1-5 to a point. But Aodh Ruadh started to settle following the introduction of Jenna Britton and made more use of the advantage of the strong breeze. They battled back well with Jenna Britton, Kayla McDermott and Catherine Garvey each contributing a goal and a point, in addition to two points from Emma O'Neill and one from Leia Roper to hit the front 3-6 to 2-6 at half-time. With a number of half-time changes Aodh Ruadh started the second half brightly and added goals from Halle McGowan, Katie McLoughlin and two from Kali Gallagher.
Second half points from Emily Gallagher, Jenna Britton, Niamh Patton, Halle McGowan, Leia Roper and Louise Browne helped ease Aodh Ruadh over the line, but Bundoran hit a couple of goals to stay in touch. In the end the girls held out well to claim a 7-12 to 5-7 victory and end the league campaign in third place with five wins from seven matches, and a 100 percent home record. In a game in which the full panel got good game time, it was a solid team performance with special mentions to Jenna Britton, Leia Roper and Louise Browne who were best on the day for Aodh Ruadh.
The team and scorers were as follows: Eabha Hegarty, Alannah Brennan, Shiloh Killalea, Amelia Coyle, Emily Kane, Holly O'Neill, Ava Garvey, Niamh Patton (0-1), Sophia Hughes, Leia Roper (0-2), Emma O'Neill (0-2), Catherine Garvey (1-1), Leah O'Malley-Malone. Subs: Jenna Britton (1-2) for Patton 10 mins, Kayla McDermott (1-1), for Hughes 16 mins, Bethany McNamee for Brennan HT, Amy McNeely for Killalea HT, Louise Browne (0-1), for H O'Neill HT, Tiah Kane for E Kane HT, Nicole McGrath for Coyle HT, Halle McGowan (1-1) for E O'Neill HT, Emily Gallagher (0-1), for C Garvey HT, Katie McLoughlin (1-0), for O'Malley-Malone HT, Niamh Patton for A Garvey 33 mins, Kali Gallagher (2-0), for McDermott 37 mins, Bronagh Waugh for Roper 40 mins, Mia Duffy for Hegarty 43 mins, Emer McGarrigle for McGrath 45 mins, Saoirse O'Donnell. Check out aodhruadh.org where we have a great gallery of shots from the game.
Next up is a Gold section county quarter final. The girls third place finish has secured home advantage for the quarter-final, which is currently scheduled for Saturday 2nd November, with opponents to be confirmed.

Hurling
Best of luck to our under 21 hurlers who will be taking on Setanta in the Shield final on Sunday at 3pm in Convoy.

Our under 16 hurlers and a group of their parents undertook the long and exciting trip to Limerick last weekend. The weekend was a roaring success on all fronts and lifetime memories were made. Our base for the duration was Fitzgerald's Woodlands House Hotel just outside the pretty heritage village of Adare. The boys enjoyed a session in the pool upon arrival and, of course, a big feed. Following a mighty breakfast the next day, we headed off to meet our hosts, Patrickswell, to play their under 16 team. In wet and miserable conditions, the two teams entertained the crowd with a fantastic game of hurling, with our lads only losing out by a single point on a scoreline of 3-13 to 3-12. After lunch, the boys were treated to a master class and private training session from David Gillane. The whole group enjoyed dinner together back at the hotel before our pilot and navigator for the weekend, Eamon Owens, bussed us all into Limerick City for a competitive evening at the Escape Rooms. Then it was back to the hotel for some socialising and a sing song with music, courtesy of the very talented Sean Maguire on guitar, Daithi Sheerin on accordion and Ríonach Sheerin on bodhrán. It was an early start the next morning to leave Adare and head into Limerick City to play another challenge game against Mungret Saint Paul's. Again, our lads lost out by the smallest of margins after Mungret bagged a last minute point following a tight and fiercely contested game throughout. Tired and sore, we packed up again, headed for Kilmallock to watch the senior team of our hosts, Patrickswell, take on near rivals, Doon, in the county semi-final. It wasn't to be Patrickswell's day, however and they crashed out of the competition, but it was great to experience the match day atmosphere in such a strong hurling county. After our goodbyes, we all piled on to the bus to make the long, more subdued journey home with time to reflect on just how much everyone enjoyed the whole weekend.
The journey was only made possible thanks to a host of generous sponsors and to the many who helped organise a jam packed schedule for the team. There was a lot of backroom work done here and thanks are due to the coaches and the committee for their huge efforts. The juvenile hurling committee would like to formally acknowledge and thank all of our sponsors; Diarmaid Whoriskey, Paul Duffy, Anthony Coughlin, Liam Gallagher, Owen Roe O'Neill, Beirne Racing, Aiden and Margaret McCarthy, Gary O'Brien, Kenny McDonald, James O'Donnell, John McGlynn of Letterkenny and to Lioscarran Group Ltd., who also provided a donation to their neighbours and our hosts, Patrickswell. Refreshments and snacks for the journey were provided by MCM and J Kelly, Stranorlar. A special mention must go to our bus driver for the entirety of the journey, Eamon Owens, who ferried us all around so professionally and gave up his time and services so generously. Many thanks to the under 16 coaches, Mark Sheerin and Paul Sheridan, who had the vision and a plan to expose the under 16 team to a level of hurling not always experienced in these parts and it highlighted how Aodh Ruadh hurling has been improving and growing to see this team engaging competitively in a hurling stronghold.
A token of Aodh Ruadh's appreciation was presented to Patrickswell President, PJ O'Grady by Juvenile Hurling Chairperson, Eoghan Ruadh O'Neill and PJ in turn presented under 16 coach, Mark Sheerin, with a Patrickswell jersey, signed by their three current Limerick senior players; Aaron Gillane, Diarmaid Byrnes and Cian Lynch. It will be hung proudly in the Aras to always remind us of the fantastic weekend of hurling experienced in Limerick and the new and lasting friendship that has formed between the two clubs.

Our under 10s had their last all county blitz of the year under floodlights in the Donegal GAA centre of Excellence. We had two teams, with 17 players taking part. Football
Our under 21s go into championship action this Sunday with an away assignment against Naomh Conaill. Throw-in down in Davy Brennan Memorial park is at 12 noon.

It wasn't to be for our minors on Saturday as Carndonagh prevailed in Convoy in the division 3 decider on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-6. Thanks to the players for all their efforts in 2024 and to the management team for all their hard work.

A depleted under 16 team travelled to Glenties on Wednesday night, to take on Kilcar in the Southern Regional Board division 2 semi-final. Having been beaten by Kilcar twice already this season, the lads knew the task at hand would be tough. And so it proved to be, but our boys played some superb football, and went in at half-time a point to the good. The second half was equally close, and every time Kilcar went a few points up, Aodh Ruadh would find the back of the net. The game finished all square, with 20 minutes of extra time required. Some of these players had played four games in four days, and their bodies were close to breaking point at that stage. It looked like we were in big trouble at half-time of extra time, when three points down. But just like before, the lads came again, and rallied to draw the game in the dying seconds. The game had to be finished, and so it was a penalty shoot out to decide the winner. Unfortunately we lost the shoot out by the odd goal. Whilst our boys were naturally very disappointed to lose such a battle of a match, every single player can be happy with their performance, and their bravery in never giving up when seemingly beaten on more than a few occasions. This concludes the season for under 16 footballers. Our thanks to the players for all their hard work this season, to the parent and guardians for their support, and finally to the management team and mentors for the hours of selfless effort they have put into the squad this season.

The 2024 under 14 Bakery Cup wrapped up on Saturday evening after three weeks of league play, culminating in the Shield and Cup finals. The Shield Final saw Manus Conlon's team face off against Jack Hassett's. Jack's team held firm with a strong defensive performance in the last five minutes, having built a solid lead by midway through the second half. Although Manus's team staged a comeback with a pair of goals, they couldn’t close the gap. In the Cup Final, Darragh McCready's team went head-to-head with Anthony Duffy's in a fiercely contested match. McCready's team took an early lead, but Duffy's side stayed within reach, trailing by just one point at half-time. The second half was a nail-biter, with both teams level as the game neared its end. A last-minute goal from Anthony Duffy's team made the difference, securing the victory and the 2024 Bakery Cup for Duffy. A big thanks to all the coaches, mentors, and referees who have helped out over the past few weeks.

Ladies
The under 23s had too much for Glenfin on a Sunday morning when storm Ashley was getting going. Aodh Ruadh did the main damage in the first ten minutes when they had scored 3-4 with just a solitary Glenfin point in answer. Eimear McMahon was in fine form, as displayed with an early free. McMahon then forced a turn over which she teed up for Cáit Gillespie to hit the net. McMahon raised a green flag herself two minutes later before Cadhla Dolan sent over from play. Eight minutes in McMahon was again the provider as Cáit Gillespie rattled the back of the net. Glenfin hit their first point ten minutes in, but Eimear McMahon and Aoibhínn McGarrigle both sent over from play within a minute to give the Shamettes a 12 points lead. The visitors did get a the score board ticking over with four points between the 12th and 18th minutes, but two Eimear McMahon frees and a neatly taken Cadhla Dolan goal off-set those with interest. Glenfin found the net in the 24th minute, but with Cadhla Dolan and Cáit Gillespie registering points in reply it was Aodh Ruadh 4-8 Glenfin 1-5 at the interval. Glenfin had the better of matters on the resumption with four points over the course of the first ten minutes who answered by a Cáit Gillespie point. Ballyshannon buckled down though and another McMahon free and a fine effort from Andrea Moore set the scene as the sides went score for score to the final whistle. On the mark for Aodh Ruadh in that period were McMahon, Cáit Gillespie and Orla Keon. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Brídín Maguire; Emer McDevitt, Síofra Hughes, Dáirín Sweeny; Aoibhínn McGarrigle (0-1), Rebecca McLaughlin, Lauren Foy; Orla Keon (0-1), Emer O'Brien; Aoife Travers, Cait Gillespie (2-3), Andrea Moore (0-1), Eimear McMahon (1-6, 5f), Cadhla Dolan (1-2), Caitlyn Gallagher. Sub: Lucy Currid. We have a gallery of shots from the game live now on aodhruadh.org.

Our under 13s are on a break until their next outing on Saturday, 2nd November in the Gold Cup quarter-final.

Many thanks to the Great Northern Hotel who sponsored a new set of jerseys for our under 10 footballers. The jerseys made their debut at half-time during the under 23 game on Sunday in Father Tierney Park.

Hurling

Hurling
Aodh Ruadh claimed a first ever under 21 hurling title following a tempestuous clash with Setanta on Friday evening. The Ernesiders started as they meant to go on with points from Danny Breen and Aaron Cullen helping them to 0-4 to 0-1 lead in the early stages. Breen kept the score board ticking over through the remainder of the half, but Setanta grabbed a fortunate goal to keep themselves in the hunt as the sides turned around with Aodh Ruadh leading 0-8 to 1-2. Setanta came out for the second half with the bit between their teeth and a quick-fire 1-1 propelled them into the lead. Ballyshannon steadied though, thanks to a well taken score from Cian McKenna. Danny Breen then pinged a free to give his side a lead they would not relinquish. It was from this point on that the temperature went up, on and off the pitch. Setanta had a player lined, and Breen, clearly in peerless form for this one, punished every indiscretion ruthlessly. The Crossroads men did manage one more point, but it was Aodh Ruadh who were controlling proceedings now and they were well in control at Noel Mullaney's long whistle. It finished Aodh Ruadh 0-15 Setanta 2-4 as the Ernesiders brought back some all-to-rare silverware to Ballyshannon for 2024.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Cian McDonald; Dara O’Mahoney, Kyle McCaffrey, Lennon Canny; Callum Ayres, Maitiu Tierney, James Gallagher; Kyle McNulty (0-1), Johnny Lin; Cian McKenna (0-1), Aaron Cullen (0-2), Aaron Wyness (0-1); Liam Doogan, Damian Weber, Danny Breen (0-10f). Subs: Daire McDevitt for Liam Doogan 49 minutes; Jack McCadden for Damian Weber 57 minutes.
A big well done to the team and a thank you to the team management and everyone who helped with the team over the course of the campaign.

Football
The under 21s lost out by the narrowest of margins in their championship opener on Sunday against Naomh Conaill. It was the hosts who had the better of the opening exchanges, going into a two point lead after just four minutes. However Ballyshannon battled back with three unanswered points to take the lead by the 11th minute. Two points were evenly shared over the remainder of the half to leave the Ernesiders heading to the dressing room leading on a scoreline of 0-4 to 0-3. They stretched their lead with a point four minutes after the resumption, but two quick scores had Glenties back level by the 36th minute. That was followed by a goal which put the hosts into the driving seat. Aodh Ruadh responded well though, landing two points, but Naomh Conaill managed to keep their noses in front with answering scores. The visitors got a massive shot in arm two minutes from time when they found the back of the net, it was anyone's game now. Unfortunately, the decisive score went the way of Naomh Conaill after this keenly fought battle, 1-9 to 1-8 the final score. Next up for the under 21s will be the visit of Glenswilly to Father Tierney Park next Sunday. Throw-in for that one will be at 1pm.

Our under 10s travelled to Ballaghadreen this morning for their end of year trip. The boys had a great day and enjoyed wonderful hospitality from the hosts. A huge thank you to the Ballaghadreen club for everything. The management would like to particularly thank Barry and Lorraine O'Neill and all at O'Neill's Next Door Off-License for sponsoring the bus.

The annual general meeting of Bord na nÓg takes place on Thursday, 7th November at 8pm. All interested in the development of underage football in Ballyshannon are warmly invited to attend as we review 2024 and make preparations for the coming season.

Best of luck to Anthony McGrath who has been named in the newly appointed Leitrim senior football management backroom team.

Ladies
The Aodh Ruadh under 23s were in dominant form at a very damp Tir Chonaill Park on Sunday morning. It did take them time to find the rhythm against a well-organised Four Masters side. Eimear McMahon sent over the first score from play after ten tentative minutes of football from both sides. That was quickly followed by a goal from Orla Keon. Keon raided through to add a point shortly after as the Shamettes started to control more of the ball. From the 14th minute to the 24th minute Cáit Gillespie hit 2-2 before Eimear McMahon flighted over a lovely shot from play. The last say of the half went the way of Gillespie though as the sodden teams headed for the changing room with the Ernesiders leading 4-5 to 0-0. The conditions continued to worsen over the course of the second half, but credit is due to both sides as they made the best of them and Eugene McHale reffed very judiciously. An early Cáit Gillespie goal was followed by a bit of a lull before Four Masters opened their scoring in the 41st minute. Aodh Ruadh came back with a Gillespie point before Eimear McMahon dropped a free into the net with the game moving into the final quarter. Orla Keon added another point which was followed by another goal for Gillespie. Caitlyn Gallagher earned her reward with a laser-guided finish to the bottom corner. The scoring ended with a deserved goal for a gutsy Four Masters, and this was met with cheers from all in Tir Chonaill Park. Bridín Maguire had a superb game between the posts, being very sound under a lot of dangerous dropping ball. In defence Síofra Hughes, Grainne Maguire and Rebecca McLaughlin kept a time ship. Orla Keon and Andrea Moore did great work in the transition from defence to attack, while up front there was a good showing from all six in tricky conditions for football.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers was as follows Bridín Maguire; Emer McDevitt, Síofra Hughes, Grainne Maguire; Andrea Moore, Rebecca McLaughlin, Lauren Foy; Orla Keon (1-2), Emer O'Brien; Aoife Travers, Cáit Gillespie (5-3), Aoibhínn McGarrigle; Caitlyn Gallagher (1-0), Eimear McMahon (1-2), Cadhla Dolan. Next up for the under 23s will be the winners of the county A semi-final between Muff and Saint Eunan's which takes place this coming Sunday.

Best of luck to our under 13s who are in Gold Cup quarter-final action this Saturday in Father Tierney Park. Their opponents will be Malin with throw-in down for 12 noon.

Camogie
The Halloween Camogie fundraising disco was a huge success. The girls and boys had such a brilliant time and danced the evening away! Massive thanks to our DJ Conal Gavigan for keeping everyone entertained and his helper Cian McDonald taking all the song requests! As always, a massive thanks to all the parents for their support and to all our coaches for all the hard work all year. A shout out also to our face painters on the day Pauline Faherty and Shauna McDonnell. Thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes, drinks, sweets and crisps for the disco and helped out with decorations: Eclipse Cinemas, Bundoran; Tigerceramics; A Novel Idea; Kernan's Spar; Maddy's Sweet Treats; and the Printing Experts.

Underage camogie continues this Wednesday evening on the top pitch at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh from 7pm to 8pm. All are welcome.
