Football
A couple of big dates for your diaries folks! The highly anticipated Senior Football Championship first round clash between Aodh Ruadh and Bundoran will take place on Sunday, 14th August at 4pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The following Saturday, 20th August, Aodh Ruadh will be away to Ardara, throw-in at 5.30pm. The reserves will be making their championship bow in Ardara as they get their campaign up and running in the curtain raiser in Pearse Memorial Park at 4pm. We wish both managements and teams the best of luck in their championship preparations. The minors earned a valuable point on the road against a hotly fancied Sean MacCumhaill's team last Friday. In tough conditions the minors showed great bottle and resolve to fight back from 0-6 to 0-3 down midway through the first half to go in at the interval leading by one. Scores were at a premium and the sides went tit for tat in an intense second half and when MacCumhaill's took a two-point lead with five minutes to go it looked like the Ballyshannon men might come home empty-handed. To their credit the Aodh Ruadh lads never gave up and continued to patiently work the ball, waiting for their chances to materialise. A huge effort from Jack Gallagher left a point in it and with time almost up Robbie Murphy nailed a crucial free off the deck from all of 53 metres to grab a well-earned point for the Shams as it finished 0-11 apiece. Corey Sheridan was excellent in goals, keeping another clean sheet and getting his kick outs away flawlessly. Jack Gallagher was in inspired form nailing seven points and was lethal from dead ball. Robbie Murphy’s equalising point would not have looked out of place in the many county games played in Ballybofey down the years. The lads have a break now and are next out in competition on Friday, 19th August when Gaoth Dobhair will be the guests in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh..
Good luck to the under 15s who have their final outing of the All-County Division 2 Cup group stages when they travel to take on Termon at 7pm this Tuesday, 2nd August.
The under 13s are in the middle of a very busy spell. Last Wednesday we travelled to Donegal Town to play Four Masters in Division 1. The Ballyshannon lads got off to a good start, taking two early points, but the home team powered through the half to take a 0-10 to 0-2 half time lead. Our boys put in a solid second half and at one stage had the deficit reduced to four points, but the hosts finished well to win on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-16. MJ Ward had a stand-out performance leading the line and registering 1-4.
On Monday evening the under 13s hosted Ardara in Division 1 at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh in what was without doubt the performance of the season-to-date. Aodh Ruadh won a thriller of a game by six points on a final scoreline of 6-7 to 1-16. Having lost at Ardara earlier in the season this was a big game where a result was needed as we look to qualify for the all-county league stages. Every player gave it their all from start to finish. Ethan Kerrigan had a massive game in the back line with Aaron McLoone and Marko Branley. Again, the forward line of MJ Ward and Callum Dorrian really delivered, clocking five goals and four points between them. Manus Conlon bagged a goal and two points, with Antoin Duffy the other point scorer. The first half saw a glut of goals as some sharp attacking play opened up a usually tight Ardara defence and Aodh Ruadh built up a six-point half time lead of 5-2 to 1-8. The second half was much tighter with Ardara bringing it back to within three points, but the Ernesiders rallied to restore the six-point lead with a late goal.
This Wednesday evening the under 13s host Dungloe in Division 1, while the Division 2 team travel to Bundoran after a break last week. On Saturday Aodh Ruadh are delighted to host the Willie Rodgers tournament. With Father Tierney Park closed we have decided to run a seven-a-side competition in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh with four mini pitches in operation. There will be 10 clubs participating from Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim and Fermanagh, with some entering two teams so there will be 16 teams in total forming an A and B section. Group games get underway at 10am with the B final taking place at 1pm followed by the A Final at 1.30pm. Spectators are encouraged to come along to view what should be a great morning of sport. Our under 10 boys played a strong MacCumhaill's side last Wednesday evening in beautiful conditions, in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The boys played two games each, with nothing between the sides at the end of both games. Thanks to Val Murray and Gerard Ferguson for reffing. Training continues as usual this Wednesday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm for both under 11 squads. On Saturday our Green squad have an away game against Glencar Manorhamilton. All players should be at the pitch in Manorhamilton for 10.30am, with the action getting underway at 11am.
The under 9s put in a terrific performance in three games against Saint Naul's on Saturday morning in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. Training continues as normal on Friday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.
Ladies
This Sunday our senior ladies teams go out in Championship action. The senior ladies will be on the road to Convoy for their opening game of the Intermediate Championship round robin stages, while Aodh Ruadh reserves entertain Buncrana in the Junior B opener. Both games throw-in at 10.30am and we wish all the players and management the very best for the championship. It was something of a point dropped for the minor ladies in Glenties last Tuesday. The first quarter was evenly fought between the sides with a goal from Katie McGowan leaving just a point between the sides at the first water break. Aodh Ruadh pushed on in the second quarter and goals from Katie O'Brien and Annie Keon helped the Ballyshannon girls to a 3-4 to 1-4 half-time lead. In the third quarter it was the Naomh Conaill girls turn to go on the goal trail and they hit three to edge into a one-point lead, with Niamh Hughes and Cadhla Dolan getting the answering scores. The last quarter was helter-skelter stuff, but goals from Annie Keon and Emer O'Brien looked to have given Aodh Ruadh what would have been a deserved win. However, Naomh Conaill grabbed the scores to get themselves back level and so the sides had to settle for a share of the points, 5-7 apiece the final scoreline. Captain Emer O'Brien was again fantastic in this game getting through a huge amount of work in the middle third, while Lauren Foy made some fantastic saves between the sticks. Megan Murphy again showed ability beyond her years with another polished outing in the full back line. Up front Niamh Hughes and Annie Keon contributed well. The girls are back at home at long last this Tuesday when they will be hosting Dungloe at 7pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh
The under 14 girls made the long trip down to Carndonagh last Thursday evening and put in a good team performance to win on a scoreline of 9-11 to 1-5. Aoife McPhelim in goals with Lily O'Donnell, Aodhbha O'Donnell and Rebecca Downey solid in the back line and Megan Murphy holding that centre back line to perfection once again. Laoise Foy and Emily McNamee were immense in midfield yet again, always winning their battles and getting in on the scores. While up front once again the magnificent duo of Ciara Larkin and Katie McGowan were unstoppable. Emma O’Donnell, Niamh Duffy and Rachel Gillespie were outstanding up front. Player of the match this week was definitely Caitlin McGuinness at wing half back who was outstanding in the defence. The next game for the girls will be a home quarter-final on Saturday, 13th August with their opponents to be confirmed as two outstanding league games remain to be played next weekend. Details of training will be circulated later this week in the team WhatsApp group. A big thank you again to David O’Donnell of Kernan’s Spar who so kindly sponsored the bus to Carndonagh, the girls thoroughly enjoyed it with a karaoke session on the way up and down to the game.
Good luck to Lucy McGlynn who is in 400 metres hurdles heats action at 6pm, Irish time this Tuesday at the World Under 20 Athletics Championships in Colombia. She will also be in 100 metres heats action on Thursday at 3.05pm. The action can be followed at the World Athletics Championships website.
Hurling
Commiserations to the Aodh Ruadh Senior hurlers who were defeated in the Cú Chulainn Shield Final on Saturday afternoon. Sligo outfit Naomh Eoin emerged 5-22 to 0-12 at Páirc Aoidh Ruadh in the decider. We have a massive gallery of images from the game live on aodhruadh.org now. It marked the end of a busy competitive season for the Aodh Ruadh senior hurlers who contested 20 competitive games across four competitions - Donegal Senior League and Championship, Donegal Intermediate semi-finalists, South Ulster League and the Cú Chulainn Shield. The players and Manager John Rooney deserve great credit for committing and competing in all competitions. After the game there was a special presentation to Aodh Ruadh team Captain Brendan Gillespie who will shortly be leaving our shores. Brendan has played hurling at all age levels for Aodh Ruadh and has represented Donegal with distinction. We wish Brendan well and thank him for his services and hope he will return in the not-too-distant future! John Rooney has managed the team having led the revival of senior hurling in Ballyshannon in 2019 and despite a big number in player turnover over the four seasons and making the step up from junior championship back to senior league and championship, all the players and John Rooney deserve a lot of credit. After a busy season of competitive games against teams in Donegal, Tyrone, Monaghan, Fermanagh, Cavan and Sligo, we thank all who have supported the squad's efforts and look forward to coming back stronger and better in 2023.Our under 15s were due to start their Donegal League campaign with a trip to Dungloe this Thursday. However, this fixture has been pushed back and instead the lads will now begin their campaign against Burt in the Donegal Centre of Excellence in Convoy. The very best of luck to all the players and management.
Our under 11s made the trip to the Cross to face Setanta in their mini-league. Again, our young team showed great grit and determination playing against an older opposition, but were competitive right to the very end of this fixture. Well done to all the players who travelled and thank you to all the parents who drove. This week we take on our neighbours, Four Masters at home, with a throw-in time of 7pm.
Our under 9s continue their training this Sunday at 11am.
Our under 5s and under 7s continue their training at 12 noon this Sunday.
As ever, anyone looking to join up and take part with our underage squads is more than welcome. Contact John Larkin on 086-1076883 for more information.
Sunrise for STOP walk
The weather might not have played ball, but that didn't stop the big numbers who turned out for the Sunrise for STOP walk last Saturday. It was so great to see the great support for this important cause and we thank all who donated to STOP and the organising team for doing an amazing job. Check out aodhruadh.org where we have a great gallery of pictures from the morning's activity. The most important aspect of our Sunrise walk was to raise awareness of the vital work STOP continue to do without any government funding across the North West. For anyone who would like to make a donation you can give it to any of the organising team and we would be delighted to pass it on. You can check out the www.northweststop.ie website for more information.Aodh Ruadh goes totally smoke free
Aodh Ruadh is now officially SMOKE-FREE. This means no smoking on the entire club grounds, including e-cigarettes. The club is the heartbeat of our community and we believe that this type of initiative will not only raise awareness, but also protect people from second hand smoke, reduce smoking initiation rates among young people and increase the amount of people seeking help to quit. We appreciate all your support in this important initiative.Maurice is Pick of the Pundits
The victory of the Meath ladies on Sunday saw Maurice McLaughlin taking the crown, and the €250 top prize, in our inaugural Pick of the Pundits competition. Eamonn Maguire had to settle for second place and €100, although he did amazingly manage to get the tiebreaker answer of 62 bang on. Liz McGrath was clear in third place and collects €75 for that achievement, but it took the tiebreaker to separate Siobhan McGarrigle and Kenzie Ayres, with Siobhan getting closest and securing the €50 fourth prize, while Kenzie picks up €25 for a commendable fifth place finish. Thanks to all our Pundits for taking part and everyone who helped sell cards for the competition. We're already looking forward to next year's Pundit showdown!Clothes collection
Aodh Ruadh Juvenile Hurling committee are collecting for their annual cash for clothes fundraiser. This is a great chance to get rid of any unwanted clothes, shoes, belts, bed linen, towels, etc., and help us raise some much-needed funds for promotion and development of underage hurling in the club. For any information regarding this campaign or arrange drop off of clothes contact any of the following: John Larkin (086-1076883), Daithi Breen 087 928 7965 Paul Sheridan 087) 657 2157 Orla Bannon (086-8035316), or Gregory Gallagher (087-2210570).Ballyshannon Bingo
We had another enjoyable bingo last Friday night, and a well done to all our winners! Emer Molloy took home the 50/50 Jackpot, with the other houses won by Packie Johnston and Olivia Campbell (Shared), Agnes Ryder, Ronan Matthews (with a line too!), Mary Reynolds, Niamh Regan, Amanda Byrne, Doreen McDonald, Caroline Murphy and Eileen McIntyre. The cash winners on the lines were Mark Newell, Gerard Cullen, Liam Doherty, Mary B Kerrigan (twice!), Cathleen McGroary, Sharon Coyle, Ailish Ward, Mary Cleary and Josie Lynch. Again over half the prizes were won by players in the hall. There was no winner on the snowball so it rolls to €950 this week as we play for a prize fund of almost €2,700. Football
All eyes will be on the highly anticipated Senior Football Championship first round clash between Aodh Ruadh and Bundoran in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh this Sunday at 4pm. We want a huge Ballyshannon support there to get behind the lads so don't you dare miss this one! One man who'll have plenty on his plate in the next while is our star stopper Peter Boyle, who welcomed Annie and Ellie Boyle into the world last Wednesday! Well done to Peter and Edel and best wishes with new additions.
The minors are on a break now as they prepare for their next competitive fixture which will be on Friday, 19th August when Gaoth Dobhair are the guests in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.
The under 15s made it three wins from three as they wrapped up an impressive run through the group stages with a 3-9 to 1-10 win over Termon at Burn Road. The first half was evenly fought, but Aodh Ruadh just about edged matters at the break, taking a three-point cushion into the interval. On the resumption a quick goal by Dara McGloin helped tip the tie in the Ernesiders favour and they were able keep the homesters at arm's length from there to the final whistle. It was a game where the defence had to get through a lot of work and with Rian McCauley, Liam Doogan and Joe Gibbions in top form they were more than a match for it. Fionn Hartin and Daithi Sheerin also added in this sector on their introduction. Up front Dara McGloin was a creative influence, with Max Roper slipping over a lovely point and Donagh Kelly also getting some nice touches.
That win put the team through a county semi-final against Naomh Bríd in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Monday evening. Despite putting up a great battle it wasn't to be for the Ballyshannon lads as Naomh Bríd ran out 5-10 to 4-7 winners. Best of luck to Ballintra in t he final. The under 13s followed up their Division 1 victory against Ardara with a well-deserved six-point win against Dungloe on Wednesday night. A win in their final game against Naomh Conaill on Wednesday, August 17th, will guarantee progression to the all-county stages of the league and also participation in Division 1 cup action this Autumn. The Aodh Ruadh lads put in a really good first half performance to lead by six points at the break on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-2, the points coming from MJ Ward (0-4, 3f) and a brace each from Callum Dorrian and Darragh McCready. Both teams exchanged points throughout the second half with Dungloe narrowing to three points courtesy of a goal midway through the half, but the home side finished well to end 0-16 to 1-7 winners. The second half scores came from Callum Dorrian (0-5, 1f), MJ Ward, Manus Conlon, Eoghan Gallagher and Anthony Duffy. Solid performances throughout yet again, with the work and tackling of Iarla Hartin and Dara Vaughan standing out, Anthony Duffy going end to end and great to see a spread of scorers coming from midfield and half forward to back up the firepower of Dorrian and Ward. The defensive unit were very well disciplined and organised in keeping the visitors scores down. The Division 1 team have no game this week, with the big trip Glenties the following week. The Division 2 game against Bundoran was postponed, with the next fixture for them being the visit of Naomh Brid this Wednesday evening.
Saturday saw Aodh Ruadh hosting the Willie Rogers under 13 tournament, and, after two years off the calendar, the famous old tournament was back with a bang. Played in seven-a-side format across four pitches, Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh was a hive of activity from early morning until well into the afternoon with the games going flat out. Teams from across the northwest descended on Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh for the competition with Bundoran, Enniskillen Gaels, Erne Gaels, Geevagh Saint Michael's, Glencar Manorhamilton, Kinawley, Saint Naul's, Saint John's of Sligo, and Tourlestrane joining hosts Aodh Ruadh for a feast of football on what proved a beautiful summer day.
After intensely fought group stages it was time for the finals, with the reserve competition deciders going off first. The Willie Rogers Reserve Cup final was between Geevagh Saint Michael's and Saint Naul's with the Leitrim lads prevailing on a scoreline of 3-5 to 2-1. In the Shield final it was an all-Connacht clash as Tourlestrane faced Glencar Manorhamilton, the Yeatsmen emerging winners with a bit to spare. In the Plate decider Aodh Ruadh took on derby rivals Bundoran and after a typically tough battle this went the way of Realt na Mara. Finally in the Plaque final Saint John's of Sligo, just had too much for a game Enniskillen Gaels outfit.
The Willie Rogers Cup final saw Geevagh Saint Michael's facing off against Saint John's of Sligo. The scores flowed in true sevens fashion in this absorbing tussle, but it was the Sligo lads' knack for goal which proved decisive in the end as they put their name on the trophy with an 8-4 to 3-6 victory. In the Shield final local lads Aodh Ruadh took on Glencar Manorhamilton and again the hosts tasted defeat as the Leitrim side took the honours, edging a 6-4 to 4-9 thriller. The Plate decider was an all-Fermanagh affair between Erne Gaels and Kinawley, with Belleek just having too much for the Brian Boru's after a long day of action. The Plaque final was played out between Enniskillen Gaels and Saint Naul's, with the Gaels taking the honours in this one. After a breathless day of action trophies and medals were presented to the winning teams, and special recognition awards were also presented to players who demonstrated exceptional work rate, honesty and commitment to their teams throughout the competition. That brought the curtain down on a fabulous day of action at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh and a great tribute to the memory of Willie Rogers. Huge thanks have to go to the organising committee who delivered a very polished tournament, with many visiting teams commenting on how well run the event was. Thanks to everyone who helped with refreshments and served up much needed teas and coffees. Thanks to the refs and also the Park Committee who had all the pitched lined up and ready for action. We have a colossal gallery of pictures from the tournament up on aodhruadh.org now.The Aodh Ruadh under 11 Green squad traveled to Manorhamilton last Saturday to take on Gelncar/Manorhamilton. The Ballyshannon lads put in great performances in both matches, coming away with two wins. The schedule for the coming week sees the White squad at home against Killybegs this Wednesday, throw in at 6.30pm. The Green squad will be training at the same time. Then on Saturday the White squad are training from 9am to 10pm in Munday's field, while the Green squad have an away match against Melvin Gaels in Kinlough at 11am. All players should be in Kinlough for 10.30am.
Under 9 training continues as normal on Friday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.
Ladies
The Aodh Ruadh senior ladies started strongly against Convoy, winning the throw-in and feeding it straight in to Terri Gallagher for a peach of a goal. The girls kept on top with scores from Cáit Gillespie and Eimear McMahon making it 1-5 to 0-4 with half-time looming. The Ernesiders did get a set back with Caoimhe Keon getting a card five minutes before break, leaving her with a ten minute wait on the bench, but it didn’t impact her performance and she came back stronger than ever in the second half. The second half saw Aoibhínn McGarrigle put away 1-2 in one of her strongest performance yet this season. The game saw strong performances right through the Ballyshannon side with Sara Gallagher, Hannah Doherty and Cara O'Loughlin delivering exceptional defensive performances, the hosts kept to just two second half points. Aodh Ruadh saw the game out with no small degree of polish, finishing 2-14 to 0-6 winners.
Meanwhile, back in a sultry Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh the reserve ladies entertained Buncrana seconds. The Ballyshannon girls took the initiative early on and never relinquished it, despite the best efforts of a Buncrana side who played right to the end. A free-scoring Aodh Ruadh outfit had Sarah Daly, Cadhla Dolan, Amanda Mahon, Ana Keon and Katie Gallagher in lethal form up front, with all five raising green flags. In midfield Lauren Foy was in majestic form and sealed her performance with a well-taken point. Katie O'Brien chipped in with a point too for the dominant Ernesiders. The homesters' defence was well on top with Megan McGee and Shauna Dolan sweeping up any danger. We have a great gallery of pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org.
The senior ladies are at home against Ardara in the second round of the Intermediate Championship round robin stages, while the Aodh Ruadh reserves are on their travels to Ballybofey where they will be taking on MacCumhaill's in the Junior B championship. Both games throw-in at 10.30am.While we are at it, big congratulations are in order for our senior captain Anna Rafferty, who got engaged out in New York to Callum Gallagher. Don't be getting any notions about transferring her up the road now, Callum!
Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh was host to a very sporting encounter between the minor girls of Aodh Ruadh and Dungloe. The game was preceded by an immaculately observed minute of silence for the recent passing of Dungloe manager's Tony Boyle's father. The game which was played would have done honour to his memory with both squads of girls giving everything for the jersey in an exciting and evenly fought contest. Aodh Ruadh got off to the better start with a Cadhla Dolan point followed by a quickfire 1-1 from the lightening Katie McGowan. Dungloe got off the mark nine minutes in, but that was cancelled out when Ciara Larkin picked off the first in a serious of lovely points. Orlaith O'Neill then flighted in a well struck goal, but then it was An Clochán Liath's turn to go on a scoring run and the 25th minute saw the sides level at 3-3 apiece. Aodh Ruadh then had points from Cadhla Dolan and Ciara Larkin, but by the half-time whistle there was only a point between the sides. The second half followed a similar pattern with goals from Katie McGowan, Annie Keon and Ciara Larkin getting Ballyshannon out into a decent lead before Dungloe started reeling them back in again. Aodh Ruadh were able to keep their noses in front with timely scores from Ciara Larkin and Orlaith O'Neill as it finished 7-9 to 5-12 in favour of the Shamettes after a breathless 60 minutes of football. Aodh Ruadh had a huge shift from their defence on the night with Lauren Foy, Megan Murphy and Emily McNamee playing some powerful stuff. Molly McMahon also did a great job on her kick-outs. Star of the show for the homesters was Gráinne Maguire who excelled in every facet of the game and really stitched things together. That said, to a large degree the result was a secondary consideration as both sides played a full part in a great sporting spectacle. Next up for the minors is the visit of MacCumhaill's to Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh this Tuesday at 7pm.
Good luck to the under 14 girls in their quarter-final against Saint Eunan's this Saturday at 1pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. It would be great to see a big Ballyshannon support in Munday's for the game. The winners of that game will face Dungloe or Four Masters in the county semi-final. This Wednesday the team take on Bundoran in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh as they hear up for their last eight clash.
Hurling
The under 15s had their first competitive outing of the season, taking on Burt in a league clash in Convoy last Thursday. The Ernesiders put in an excellent performance in wet and windy conditions, with some eye-catching performances across the field and from the five subs who came on. The Aodh Ruadh defence was excellent, only conceding 1-1 from play. Credit for that display must also go to the two goalkeepers on the night, Ben Daly in the first half and Jayden McGrath Clyne in the second half, the pair putting in great performances. The Ballyshannon midfield and forwards worked extremely hard and wove together some great flowing moves. The score-taking was of a very high quality with all the scores coming from play and a good range of scorers across the whole team. A special mention for Tomás Keown who came on in the second half for his first ever hurling league game and played exceptionally well. Tomás only started hurling with the club in March and is already looking a promising young talent. The final score on the night was Aodh Ruadh 3-17 Burt 1-5, with the following players registering for the Ernesiders: Liam Doogan 0-3, Corey Sheridan 1-5, Killian McPhelim 1-1, Darragh O’Mahoney 1-2, Joseph Gibbions 0-1, Jun Hui Lin 0-2, and Shay Winters 0-1. Many thanks to all the parents who drove and gave lifts to the boys. This week the lads are on their travels again as they head to the Crossroads to take on Setanta, throw in at 7.30pm.Our under 11s continued their season with the visit of MacCumhaill's last Thursday. The players faced an up-hill battle against an older team, but acquitted themselves very well. There were some spirited performances right throughout the team, and each of the players were given plenty of game time. Next up is Buncrana at a neutral venue, the Donegal Centre of Excellence in Convoy this Thursday. Training continues every Sunday morning.
Our under 9s have a blitz on Wednesday evening with our near neighbours St Molaise's in Grange. Training continues every Sunday, with new recruits always welcome!
Training continues for our under 7s on Sunday mornings, for all info please contact John Larkin.
Well done to Jun Hui Lin, Corey Sheridan, Gareth Brennan, Killian McPhelim and Ben Daly, who were a part of the Donegal under 15 Development squad on Saturday which took part in the group stages of the Peter O'Keefe cup. They played Tyrone and Roscommon, and were 10 points down in their game against Roscommon, before coming back to win by a point. Details of their semi-final and final are to be confirmed.
As ever, anyone looking to join up and take part with our underage squads is more than welcome. Contact John Larkin on 086-1076883 for more information.
Well done Lucy!
Congrats to Lucy McGlynn who had a stellar showing at the World Under 20 Athletics Championships in Colombia last week. Still just 17, she set a new personal best for the 100 metres hurdles, her 13.92 seconds also setting a new Donegal record. She also had a great run in the 400m hurdles heat finishing just 0.01 seconds off making it through to the semi-finals.Oisín on tune
Huge congratulations to Oisín McGrath who was crowned under 12 Banjo All-Ireland Champion at Fleadh Cheoil 2022 in Mullingar on Saturday.Clothes collection

Aodh Ruadh got their championship up to a great start with a win against Bundoran. After a cagey first half Ballyshannon just edged matters 0-3 to 0-2. In the second half the Ernesiders pulled away thanks to a goal from Shane McGrath as it finished Aodh Ruadh 1-8 Bundoran 0-6. We have a great gallery of pictures on aodhruadh.org. This Saturday Aodh Ruadh will be away to Ardara, throw-in at 5.30pm. The under 13s had a very busy Saturday!. A huge congrats to the Division 1 boys who won the Belcoo 75th Sports tournament. It was a tremendous effort by all players over four hours in the searing heat, with only one rolling sub at nine-a-side. The boys won four out of their five league games to make the final, going on then to defeat the west Cavan outfit Dernacrieve Gaels by six points in the final. A big thank you to Belcoo O’Rahilly's for the invite, and the other participating teams Erne Gaels, Derrygonnelly Harps and Trillick. It was all back to Bundoran then for the Division 2 team's match against Realt Na Mara. Ladies
The Aodh Ruadh senior ladies made it two wins from two with a convincing win over Ardara in Ballyshannon last Sunday. They took control early on and never relinquished it to run out comfortable winners in the end. We have a gallery of pictures from the game on aodhruadh.org. It was a different story for the 14 players who travelled for the reserve fixture against MacCumhaill's first team in the Junior B Championship. Despite the best efforts of the Ernesiders the Twin Town's girls had too much in the tank and were deserving winners. There is a nice gallery of pictures from the game on the MacCumhaill's Facebook page. The senior ladies are away to Milford in the final round of the Intermediate Championship round robin stages, while the Aodh Ruadh reserves entertain Letterkenny Gaels in the Junior B championship. Both games throw-in at 10.30am.The minors secured a home quarter-final after being pushed all the way by MacCumhaill's. The Ballyshannon girls had to come back from four points down to earn the victory. There was a healthy points tally which was great to see from the girls. We have a gallery of pictures from the game on aodhruadh.org. Next up for the county A quarter-final against Buncrana in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh this Thursday at 7pm. It would be great to see big support in Munday's for the girls.
The under 14 girls had a good win at the weekend over Saint Eunan's to secure their place in the Division 1 semi-final against Dungloe at home with a date to be confirmed over the next few weeks. The girls, parents and management are having a well-deserved week off training and matches this week. The training schedule will be announced over the weekend.
Hurling

There were some outstanding performances from our younger players Ethan and Alex Kerrigan at the back. Also, Finn Doogan put in a man of the match performance in the forward line. Credit must go to the whole squad on their performances all over the field. Football
Aodh Ruadh made it two from two with a win on the road against Ardara on Saturday afternoon, and are one of only four teams with a 100 percent record at this point in the championship race. It was first blood to Ardara, but points from Eamonn McGrath and Eddie Lynch sent Aodh Ruadh into the lead by the 11th minute. Ardara equalised, but Diarmaid McInerney edged Ballyshannon clear again in the 25th minute. The Ernesiders then hit their best spell of the game, outscoring the homesters by six points to two to lead by 0-4 to 0-9 with 37 minutes on the clock. During that purple patch Diarmaid McInerney, Darren Drummond, Matthew Gillespie and David Dolan all registered. Aodh Ruadh failed to score for the remainder of the game though, and Ardara battled hard to claw their way through the deficit. The clock ran out on them however and Aodh Ruadh secured a crucial second championship win as they chase down a quarter-final place. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Mark McGlynn, Conor Patton, Kyle Murray; Michael McKenna, Colm Kelly, Niall Murray; Eamonn McGrath (0-1), Darren Drummond (0-1); Diarmaid McInerney (0-4, 3f); David Dolan (0-1), Shane McGrath; Eddie Lynch (0-1), Matt Gillespie (0-1m), Nathan Boyle. Subs: Cian Rooney for David Dolan 47 minutes. The reserves were returning to action for their first competitive game since July and unfortunately the rust showed as they sank to a disappointing defeat against Ardara. Aodh Ruadh had the better of matters for much of the first half and lead by 0-4 to 0-2 with 20 minutes played. However, by half-time Ardara had pulled it back to a one-point deficit as the sides turned around at 0-5 to 0-4. The Ernesiders got the first point of a low scoring second half on 40 minutes. The hosts then responded with four unanswered points to sling themselves into the lead, and although Aodh Ruadh did pull the scores back to 0-8 to 0-7 with a point two minutes into injury time, the clock beat them and it was an opening day defeat for the Ballyshannon lads.
The draw on Sunday evening in Gaelic Park saw Aodh Ruadh paired against Saint Naul's in the third round. Those games will be played in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh this Sunday with the reserve game throwing in at 12 noon, followed by the senior clash at 1.30pm.
The minors chalked up a good win against Gaoth Dobhair in Páirc Aoidh Ruadh on Friday evening, 2-13 to 2-11 the final score after and exciting tussle. Jack Gallagher got the homesters off to a great goal in the first minute. Gaoth Dobhair were a well organised powerful side with a number of stand-out players. Their powerful number 14, James Ó Baoill had a great battle with Aodh Ruadh joint captain Aidan Sweeny. Cian Ó Gallachoir and Ronan Mac Phaidín were also excellent for the Gaeltacht men. For Aodh Ruadh, Corey Sheridan in goals James Gallagher and Eoghan Kelly in defence all starred. Aonghus Sweeny fielded caught some great ball around the middle third and really drove the team forward. Garvey Meade who finished well for the Ernesiders' second goal had a great game. Subs Eoin Cassidy, Garreth Brennan and Kian Duncan who scored a cracking point all made great contributions when introduced. Overall, a good result with plenty of room for improvement for this squad of players. Thanks to senior players Shane McGrath, Christopher Goan and Eddie Lynch who helped out with the team and Mark Sheerin who did physio. We have a gallery of image from the game up on aodhruadh.org. This squad are away to Ardara this Friday evening for their next outing.
In under 13 action this week, the Division 1 team really dug deep to take the honours in their must win match in Glenties to qualify from the Southern Board region to the all-county stages of the league. Aodh Ruadh got off to a blistering start putting the first three points on the board, but Naomh Conaill hit with four without reply, all within the first seven minutes. Both teams exchanged points from then until the break with the home team taking a 0-8 to 0-7 half-time lead. The home side had the ball in the net within 30 seconds of the throw-in to stretch four ahead. Aodh Ruadh cancelled that out courtesy of Callum Dorrian shortly after. Glenties added another brace before Dorrian's second goal drew the sides level after nine minutes at 1-11 to 2-8. A Dorrian point then had Aodh Ruadh ahead only to be hit by Glenties with their second goal. MJ Ward pointed from a free and a cracking point from distance from Dara McCready levelled matters again with three minutes to play. The Ernesiders finally broke clear with Dorrian claiming his hat-trick with another superbly taken goal, but it still took two injury time points from MJ Ward to secure a very tight victory at 2-14 to 3-13. Credit to all players who knew what was at stake and stepped up when it mattered. Again, there were really good performances right through the team in what was a hugely entertaining and tense game. The county quarter-final is due to take place next week. Aodh Ruadh Division 1 team and scorers were as follows: Jack Gormley, Markko Branley, Aaron McLoone, Anthony Duffy, Dara McCready (0-1), Eoghan McCadden, Eoghan Gallagher, Antoin Duffy (0-1), Ethan Kerrigan, Manus Conlon (0-1), Oisin McCadden (0-1), Callum Dorrian (3-3), MJ Ward (0-7, 6f). Subs: Dara Vaughan for Kerrigan, Iarla Hartin.
The under 13s Division 2 team were away to Naomh Ultan last Wednesday night. There were energetic performances from the squad's youngest members Daniel McLoone, Kieran McGuinness and Conor Grimes. Conor Grennan put in a solid effort from midfield contributing 1-2 from play. John McHugh and Alex Kerrigan marshalled the full back line well, with Eoghan McNulty and Conor McGloin getting on the score sheet for the Ernesiders. The team kept working hard throughout against a stronger Naomh Ultan team. The division 2 match against Kilcar on Monday 22nd was postponed with a rearranged date awaited. The Aodh Ruadh under 11 White squad played Naomh Bríd last Friday evening. They produced their best performance of the season so far in two very competitive games. The boys then enjoyed a change of training venue on Saturday, when a very competitive beach games competition replaced training, with lots of fun and laughs had. This Wednesday night the White squad take on Na Rossa in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh, and all players are asked to be at the pitch for 6.30pm. Training for the Green squad will also take place on Wednesday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
The under 9s welcomed our neighbours Bundoran to Páirc Aodh Ruadh on Saturday morning for three very competitive games. Thanks to Aaron and Philip for reffing. Next Saturday, the boys will travel to Ardara to participate in the Tomás Maguire Cup with 23 other teams. Best of luck to all involved. Training continues as normal on Friday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.
Ladies
Aodh Ruadh made it three from three to top their group after the round robin stages of the intermediate championship. They made the trip to Moyle View Park where they took on a very physical Milford outfit. The Ernesiders hit the ground running and, with the defence putting in a Trojan shift, it was Aodh Ruadh 2-8 Milford 0-2 at the turnaround. In the second half the scoring pace dropped a little and Milford came more into the game, but Aodh Ruadh continued to keep the score board ticking over. At the final whistle it was 4-12 to 0-8 in favour of the Ballyshannon girls. As mentioned, it was another good showing by an Aodh Ruadh defence which has conceded just 3-19 in three games. Gráinne Maguire was superb at full back with Síofra Hughes also doing well in the corner, while wing back Meabh McCloskey covered a ridiculous amount of ground over the course of the game. Tara Khan got through a massive amount of work in the middle third, while up front Aoibheann McGarrigle, Cáit Gillespie and Terri Gallagher put in a lot of hard yards and took some great scores.
Meanwhile in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh the reserve ladies entertained Letterkenny Gaels in the last round of Junior B Championship games. It proved a lively encounter, with Aodh Ruadh having the better of things in the first half before the Gaels rallied to close to within a goal of the hosts. The Shamettes got off to a great start with Sarah Daly drilling two lovely points before Amanda Mahon found the net with seven minutes on the clock. Letterkenny responded with their first point, but that was answered by points from Niamh Hughes and Katie O'Brien with Dáirín Sweeny hitting the net on 11 minutes to make it 2-4 to 0-1 Niamh Hughes, Sarah Daly and Katie O'Brien again found the range before Letterkenny Gaels finished the half with a flourish, as four points in succession made it 2-7 to 0-5 at the turnaround. The Letterkenny ladies then registered the opening two points of the second half before Aodh Ruadh got off the mark with a Cadhla Dolan free and a lovely effort from Emer O'Brien. A Letterkenny point was answered by another Dolan free, but the Gaels were in the groove now and a 1-2 salvo left just a goal between the sides with 42 minutes played, 2-10 to 1-10 the scoreline. With the game in the balance Lucy McGlynn strode forward and hit an inspirational point. That was followed by another excellent score from the immaculate Emer O'Brien on 48 minutes. Then two minutes later Amanda Mahon raised her second green flag of the day, and then Cadhla Dolan coolly placed her shot to the left of the keeper. Katie Gallagher then popped over a deserved point to make it 4-13 to 1-10. Letterkenny worked hard to erode the deficit, but the clock was against them and it finished Aodh Ruadh 4-14 Letterkenny Gaels 2-13. It was a great display by the Ernesiders in very humid conditions. Roisin McGloin was probably player of the match, despite starting at wing back, she seemed to be everywhere in this game. Back between the posts Roisín Maguire had a great game. Emer O'Brien and Kate Cunningham were super in the middle of the pitch and they game their team a great platform to create shooting chances. Amanda Mahon caused the Gaels a lot of trouble up front with Hannah McGuinness and Katie Gallagher both contributing really well on their introduction. We have a gallery of pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org.The senior ladies are now preparing for a home quarter-final against Robert Emmet's on Sunday, 4th September. Meanwhile the Aodh Ruadh reserves are awaiting the result of the group game between Kilcar and Red Hugh's on Tuesday evening to discover who their quarter-final opponents will be in their quarter-final on Sunday, 11th September in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.
The very best of luck to our minors who head to Dungloe on Thursday for their Division 1 county semi-final at 7pm.

Hurling
The senior hurlers had a very competitive seven-a-side game on Saturday evening to wish bon voyage to Brendan Gillespie and Stephen Connolly who are heading away shortly to Canada and Germany respectively. Both these lads have given great service over the years since they first started hurling for Aodh Ruadh at under 10 level. After the game we had a very enjoyable get together in Owen Roe's. Best of luck lads, safe trip and hope to see you both lining out again for Aodh Ruadh in the future.Aodh Ruadh travelled to Convoy to play Carndonagh in their third game of the under 15 league. The Ernesiders put in another outstanding performance to run out convincing winners 3-20 to 0-1. Ballyshannon started the game with six wides in first 6 minutes, but the a very strong wind facing wind was a factor. Once Aodh Ruadh got their first score in the eighth minute they really started to push on. Again, all but two points came from play. The six backs and goalkeeper Ben Daly were in outstanding form and any time Carn got within scoring range they pressured and closed them down, putting in some fantastic blocks and hooks. Meanwhile, our two midfielders Liam Doogan and Jun Hui Lin worked tirelessly, winning a lot of dirty ball and setting up scores with some great passing, whilst also managing to get on the score sheet. The Aodh Ruadh forwards again worked tirelessly being our first line of defence when the Inishowen lads had possession. They took some great scores and worked some great passes to get the scores. The subs brought great energy to the team when introduced. These lads are putting in a serious effort and their performances so far are reflective of their efforts. The team are away to Saint Eunan's next Thursday.
The under 11s continued their season with the visit of Four Masters last Thursday. This game was a tight battle and a draw at half time, but the Donegal town lads had slightly more scoring power and ran out the winners in the end. On Sunday morning we lost out to an older and physically stronger Dungloe team, at home in Páirc Aoidh Ruadh. The squad will now have a break before we host the Aodh Ó Dálaigh tournament on Sunday 4th September. Training continues every Sunday, with new recruits always welcome.

Football
Aodh Ruadh delivered their best display of the championship to date on Sunday as the saw off the challenge of Saint Naul's on a scoreline of 3-17 to 1-10. Ballyshannon dominated the ball in the first half and had points from Diarmaid McInerney (2), David Dolan (2), Shane McGrath, Michael McKenna, Matt Gillespie, Nathan Boyle. Saint Naul's hard few attacking chances in the first half, but one of them yielded a goal for Stephen Griffin who managed to drill his shot low and hard to the corner past Peter Boyle. That kept Mountcharles just about in touch at half-time with the scores ready Aodh Ruadh 0-8 Saint Naul's 1-2. The fireworks arrived in the second half as Aodh Ruadh upped the tempo in the attack. Diarmaid McInerney hit two frees which were cancelled out by points from Stuart Johnston. On 37 minutes Darren Drummond pushed his side six points clear with a thumping goal, adding a free a couple of minutes later. Then, as the game headed for the final quarter, a lovely ball from Eamonn McGrath released David Dolan who swerved around the keeper before sweeping into the empty net to make it 2-12 to 1-5. From there to the finish the result was not in doubt, and it was copper-fastened in the 52nd minute when McInerney put the ball through to Dolan and he raised his second green flag of the day. The winning margin of 13 points did not flatter the Ernesiders and has assured Aodh Ruadh of a quarter-final berth with a game to spare, a great achievement for the management and squad. This was a very polished performance by Aodh Ruadh and they bossed this game practically from start to finish. Mark McGlynn again caught the eye with some penetrating runs while Colm Kelly diligently organised the defence. Eamonn McGrath had an outstanding 60 minutes in midfield while up front David Dolan and Diarmaid McInerney caused Naul's endless problems. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Mark McGlynn, Conor Patton, Kyle Murray (0-1); Michael McKenna (0-1), Colm Kelly, Niall Murray; Darren Drummond (1-0), Eamonn McGrath; Diarmaid McInerney (0-5, 4f), David Dolan (2-3, 1f), Shane McGrath (0-2); Eddie Lynch, Matt Gillespie (0-1), Nathan Boyle (0-2 1f, 1 45). Subs: Philip Patton (0-2) for Matt Gillespie HT; Johnny Gallagher for Darren Drummond (48); Calum O'Halloran for Michael McKenna (54). Check out aodhruadh.org for a great gallery of pictures from the game. After a disappointing display against Ardara in their championship opener, the senior development squad proved much too strong for Saint Naul's on Sunday. Aodh Ruadh blitzed the Mountcharles men in the first quarter, indeed, they had three points on the board within three minutes of the throw-in. Harry Howarth, Dan Warnock and Damian Weber coming up with the goods. Conal Sweeny then quickly made it four before Kerry Ryan fired over from a mark. Further first half points were supplied by Cathal Kelly, free, Harry Howarth and Damian Weber (2) as Ballyshannon dominated in every sector. At the turnaround the homesters led on a scoreline of 0-9 to 0-1. They didn't relent in the second half, with the warm conditions taking their toll on the visitors' challenge. Senan Rooney got the second half scoring going with a spectacular booming effort before Harry Howarth, Spanny Goan and Kerry Ryan raised white flags. Aodh Ruadh then registered the game's only goal on 40 minutes when Harry Howarth collected the ball and rifled a smashing shot to the net. That was followed by points from Darragh Flood Dolan, Howarth, Cathal Kelly, Conal Sweeny and Damian Weber (2) as Aodh Ruadh eased to a 1-18 to 0-5 victory. Aodh Ruadh were very convincing in this encounter with every player giving a five star performance. Daire Gallagher was very lively in the defence and not afraid to get forward. Conall Sweeny showed a lot of strength and no small amount of skill around the middle of the pitch. Up front Harry Howarth and Damian Weber were just too much for Mountcharles to handle, Howarth in particular made maximum use of every ball he collected. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Aaron Cullen; Daire Gallagher, Michael Ward, Conor Foy; Jason Granahan, Daniel Warnock (0-1), Senan Rooney (0-1); Conall Sweeney (0-2), Colm McGloin; Chris Goan (0-1), Damian Weber (0-5, 1f), Darragh Flood Dolan (0-1); Harry Howarth (1-4), Kerry Ryan (0-2, 1f, 1m), Cathal Kelly (0-2, 1f). Substitutes: Oisin Kerr on for Senan Rooney; Odhran McGarrigle for Kerry Ryan; Diarmaid Dolan for Colm McGloin; David Roper. We have a gallery of pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org.
The fourth round draw on Sunday saw Aodh Ruadh paired with Milford. Those games will be played in Moyle View Park this Sunday with the reserve game throwing in at 1.30pm, followed by the senior fixture at 3pm.
Congratulations to our neighbours up the river, Erne Gaels, on winning the Fermanagh SFL Division 1 title last Sunday, their first Division 1 silverware in 26 years.
The Aodh Ruadh minors followed on from last week's win against Gaoth Dobhair with another improved performance against a lively Ardara side. Played before a big crowd at Pearse Memorial park, the visitors took the points on a final scoreline of Ardara 0-9 Aodh Ruadh 2-11. The Ernesiders welcomed back Ryan Daly in goals after injury. Ardara went in at the break leading by six points to four at half-time, with county minor Karol Joseph Molloy taking the fight to Aodh Ruadh around the middle third. In the second half Aodh Ruadh seized the initiative with two goals. The first was a cracking shot from Garvey Meade into the top corner and that was followed by a close range effort from Aonghus Sweeny. For Aodh Ruadh, Tommy Clyne, Aidan Sweeny and Eoghan Kelly in defence were in fine form. Elsewhere, Aonghus Sweeny and Shane Delahunty really upped the ante in the second half around the middle third. Jack Gallagher had a good game up front, kicking some great points. Next up is Four Masters this Friday evening at home in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh at 7pm.
The under 13s lost out in an agonising defeat in the final moments of their all-county league quarter final against MacCumhaill's in Ballybofey on Monday night. Aodh Ruadh led by a point playing the final minute of normal time, only for the hosts to strike for an equaliser. With the game in the melting pot in the fourth minute of added time, the hosts took the lead for the first time since with third minute with a free. As Aodh Ruadh pushed forward to rescue the game, a turnover resulted in MacCumhaill's finding the net to put the tie to bed. In a real ding dong battle, the Ballyshannon boys took a 1-6 to 1-5 half time lead, the goal coming by Anthony Duffy after intercepting play and driving though the home defence to bury into the bottom corner on the fourth minute. The first half points came from Callum Dorrian (3), MJ Ward (2) and a fine score from distance by Eoghan Gallagher. The Ballybofey lads drew level shortly after the restart, but two goals by Dorrian, a good finish after a mazzy run followed by a palmed effort to the net from a pass by MJ Ward, put the Ernesiders six points ahead after seven minutes of the second half. The hosts however stuck with it and chipped away the lead over the next 15 minutes, before Ward nudged Aodh Ruadh ahead again with two minutes to play, with what looked might have been the winning score. It was a tremendous effort from all of the boys who can be proud of pushing one of the strongest teams in the county to the brink. All the players from goalkeeper through the backs, middle and the forwards gave their all and were the better team for most of the match. The Aodh Ruadh team were: Jack Gormley; Marko Branley, Aaron McLoone, Anthony Duffy, Darragh McCready, Dara Vaughan, Cole Connolly, Eoghan Gallagher (c), Antoin Duffy; Eoghan McCadden, Manus Conlon, Callum Dorrian, MJ Ward. Subs Oisin McCadden for Antoin Duffy, Ethan Kerrigan for Dara Vaughan. The Division 2 team continue to await a refixture for their tie against Kilcar. Both teams also await the draw for the All County Cup competitions which will start in September.
This Saturday will see the start of the Aodh Ruadh under 11 internal league. There will be six teams, involving ALL under 11 players. The teams will play each other once, with the league table determining who plays who in our finals day. Team sheets, with fixtures and rules were distributed to players on Monday evening. The first round of games on Saturday will take place from 4pm to 5.30pm.
Two under 9 teams travelled to Ardara with 23 other clubs to participate in the annual Tomás Maguire Cup. Both teams performed magnificently with Team One making it all the way to the Shield final. Despite playing their hearts out, they lost a very close encounter to Killybegs. Team Two made it to the quarter-finals and were unfortunate to come up against a strong Letterkenny side. Training continues as normal on Friday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille. An update on the time will be posted on the team WhatsApp group.
Ladies
The senior ladies are currently preparing for a home quarter-final against Robert Emmet's in the intermediate championship on Sunday, 11th September. Ahead of that the Aodh Ruadh reserves will be taking on Kilcar or Red Hugh's in the Junior B quarter-final this Sunday at 10.30am in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. We'd love to see a big support up in Munday's to get behind this hard-working bunch of girls. It wasn't to be for our minor girls on Thursday as they lost out to Dungloe in the county semi-final. Playing against the slope Aodh Ruadh played some of their better football, and with Lucy McGlynn hitting 1-2 and Katie McGowan raising a green flag they were well in contention at the turnaround. Unfortunately, Dungloe showed more appetite in the second half and although, Cadhla Dolan converted a well-struck penalty and Niamh Hughes also found the net, Aodh Ruadh could only trim the margin back to nine points and Dungloe were able to see out the game in comfort. Ballyshannon's best performances were in defence with Niamh McGloin, Andrea Moore and Megan Murphy delivering very strong displays. Both Lauren Foy and Molly McMahon did really well in goals. Meanwhile Emily McNamee and Orlaith O'Neill really battled hard on their introduction.
Hurling
The under 15s travelled to Letterkenny to take on Saint Eunan's in the fourth game of the league. Aodh Ruadh were missing a few of the regular starters due to holidays and injuries and this gave some of the other players the opportunity to make an impression from the start. In all 22 lads travelled down and all got game time. The match was played out in atrocious conditions and the lads started off slowly. A rather fortunate goal for Saint Eunan's was the first score of the game. After that wake-up call the Ernesiders started to come more into the game and began to pick off some good scores. In a very low scoring encounter the half-time score was 1-3 to 1-0 in favour of the visitors. With the Aodh Ruadh defence mopping up anything that came their way and the midfield and attack wording very hard and taking some good scores, the team steadily stretched their lead. Conditions weren't ideal for good hurling and scores were scarce, but Ballyshannon ground out the win and ran out winners by 2-6 to 1-0. The whole team gave their all in the tough conditions. Next up for the team is MacCumhaill's at home this Thursday. This Sunday sees the return of the club's longest running tournament, the Aodh Ó Dálaigh Shield. Aodh Ruadh are running the tournament as an under 11 competition, having run it at under 12 level prior to the change to uneven ages for underage competitions. This year, we are welcoming our neighbours in Grange; Saint Molaise, Buncrana, Four Masters and the Cluainín hurling club from Manorhamilton. The action throws in at 12.30pm for what promises to be a great afternoon of hurling. Best of luck to our team on their first time taking part in tournament hurling.
Our under 7s had a busy morning of hurling this week when we welcomed Setanta and MacCumhaill's to Páirc Aodh Ruadh for a blitz. We had three games on the go simultaneously, with each club having two teams, and each team playing all of the others to give them five games. Thank you as always to our referees and all the parents for helping out. The squad are due to travel to MacCumhaill's this week for their next blitz and all details will be made available in due course in the team WhatsApp group.
