Ladies
Aodh Ruadh welcomed Cavan champions Killygarry to Ballyshannon for the Ulster club minor ladies quarter-final on a bright autumn Sunday afternoon. It was to prove a hugely entertaining game for the large crowd in Father Tierney Park, with the Breffni kingpins prevailing by the bare minimum. A four goal salvo from the visitors in the first half proved crucial with the Breffni girls going in leading by 1-5 to 4-3. Aodh Ruadh mounted a gutsy second half comeback though with early goals from Orla Keon and Cαit Gillespie catapulting the Ernesiders right back into the reckoning. In the end though Killygarry held on for a 3-9 to 4-7 victory and will face Errigal Ciaran in the Ulster semi-final. The slow start cost Aodh Ruadh, but they can take great pride in manner they dug deep and outscored Killygarry 3-6 to 1-4 from the 17th minute on. The girls showed massive reserves of grit and character. Like the county semi-final and final, this was a superb team performance from Aodh Ruadh. Bridín Maguire was absolutely outstanding between the posts, while Ana Keon gave a ferocious display at full back. Caitlin McGarrigle played one of the best games of her career, eventually coming out on top in a titanic battle against the exceptionally talented Aisling Walls. Lucy McGlynn also grew to dominate as the game wore on. Caoimhe Hughes O'Brien was a dynamic presence in the centre of the park and gave every last shred for the cause. Up front Orla Keon, Grαinne Maguire, Cαit Gillespie and Aoibhínn McGarrigle all stood up and were counted against probably the best defence Aodh Ruadh came up against this season. However, it was the heart and character shown by every single member of the team in difficult circumstances which will be the enduring memory of this game. Best of luck to Killygarry in the remainder of the Ulster series. They played the game in a great spirit and represented their county with style. Football
The club is seeking expressions of interest for the post of reserve team manager. Anyone interested in taking up the position is asked to contact secretary Lisa McTernan at secretary.aodhruadh.donegal@gaa.ie.Scór na nÓg
The Scór na nÓg semi-final took place in Glenfin last Friday and Aodh Ruadh were represented in two events - solo singing and the quiz. Sean Maguire made his Scór debut in the solo singing event and sang a beautiful rendition of the song Grace, but unfortunately didn't make it through to the county final. However at the young age of 11 he has many years left at this level. The quiz team of Beth Flood, Laoise Kelly, Emily McHugh and Clodagh O'Connor put in a very strong performance, coming second to a Naomh Columba side which came fourth in the All-Ireland final last year. In previous years this result would have been enough to qualify for the county final, but due to a change in the rules only one team qualified. A special mention to Laoise Kelly who was performing in her final Scór na nÓg quiz as she will be overage next year. The club thanks her for her great commitment and work rate over the last four years.Schools Coach
The club still has an outstanding vacancy for a schools coaching post. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone seeking to get into coaching who fulfils Community Employment Scheme eligibility criteria. Aodh Ruadh has had a number of coaches on this scheme in recent years and all have gone on to secure employment in coaching. Contact Tom Daly if interested.Club AGM
