Ladies
Well done to Caoimhe Keon who did really well on her first start of the season for the Donegal senior ladies, helping them to a 1-9 to 1-3 victory over Westmeath. Well done also to Katie McGowan and Ciara Larkin who lined out for Donegal under 16s against Leitrim in pre-season games in Killybegs over the weekend.

The Ladies Football committee held their first meeting of the 2024 last Thursday in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh. It was very well attended with a lot of good discussion and planning taking place centred on the rapidly approaching competitive season. Management positions were ratified for all teams and were filled as follows:-
Senior, Junior and Under 23, Paul Gillespie and Siobhan O'Donnell.
Minor, John Hughes, Síofra Hughes and Bobbie Murphy.
Under 16, Eamonn O'Donnell and Roisín Maguire.
Under 14, Terry Hughes.
Under 12, Elaine Garvey, Caroline McLoone, Donal Gallagher and Pauric Hegarty.

Coláiste Cholmcille are semi-finalists in their bid to win €50,000 in the Lidl LGFA schools' competition. This money would go towards girls' football in the school. They would really appreciate your vote and if you could share the link around. Coláiste are up against stiff competition! There's a lovely video of the girls and coaches too. Thanks to everyone for their support so far.

Successful CPR / AED training
We had a great turnout again last week with 38 people attending over the two nights at our CPR / AED course. We'd like to our newly trained potential life savers. Our also thanks to Liam, Mark and Kenny on behalf of the club for giving up their time, and of course, thanks to Chris Kelly for organising the event.

Club membership
We ask all club members to start thinking about submitting their club registration for 2024. This year we are moving to Foireann for processing of club membership. This is the official GAA online platform, and many will have already used it during COVID. To obtain or renew membership online go to foireann.ie, and your membership status will be displayed on the dashboard after you login, with the option to register, if you have not yet paid your membership for 2024. Anyone running into problems with Foireann can contact Lisa McTernan or Louise Larkin for assistance. Alternatively, membership can also be paid to Gerry Ferguson at Ferguson's Jewellers. All players, without exception, must be signed up club members. Non members are not covered by the GAA's injury insurance scheme and cannot line out for the club. Adult members will receive first priority for the club's allocation of All-Ireland final tickets in the event of Donegal contesting the decider. Only adult members registered by 31st March may vote at the club AGM.

Congratulations to all our hurlers who lined out with the County Development teams yesterday. Cian McDonald and the under 20 team were not disappointed after travelling to Breffni Park. They came away winners on a scoreline of 3-12 to 2-5. There was extensive Aodh Ruadh representation on the county 17 team, with no less than ten players. Joe Gibbions, Daithi Sheerin, Lennon Canny, Rory Cullen, Antoin O'Loughlin, Shay Winters, Corey Sheridan, Jun Hui Lin and Liam Doogan all played their part, with an injured Sean Maguire cheering them on from the sideline. Dinner dance
This year's Aodh Ruadh Dinner Dance must have broken all records with a huge crowd beating a path to Dorrian's Imperial Hotel, where the suave Sean Perry was once again at the helm for evening. Proceedings got underway with the presentations to the 1998 intermediate camogie championship winners. That was then followed by presentations to the 1998 reserve championship winners and senior championship winners. It was a real treat to relive some wonderful memories from a sensational year of success for the club. We then recognised two ladies teams who brought home silverware this year. The junior ladies captured the Division 3 title, while the under 23 ladies defeated Termon in the Division 2 championship decider The evening then moved on to the individual awards section. Young hurler of the year was the stylish and talented Kyle McCaffrey, while mainstay of the senior team Gareth Sheerin marked his progression by claiming hurler of the year award. Síofra Hughes capped a fine season by bagging the under 23 ladies player of the year award. The junior ladies player of the year award went the way of Roisin McGloin, while senior captain Anna Rafferty got the nod as the Tanya O'Shea Dunne senior ladies player of the year winner. The under 21 player of the year was won by a real rising prospect, Aidan Sweeny. Meanwhile the young reserve player of the year went to Darragh Flood Dolan with Eoghan Kelly picking up the young senior player of the year award. Sticky Ward completed his collection of league medals from Division 1 to Division 4 last year, and on Saturday he picked up the reserve player of the year award, after having won the senior player of the year award back in 2011. The Ciaran Keon senior player of the year was won by Cian Dolan, well deserved after a year where he cut a swathe through some of the best midfields the county has to offer. Then came time for the presentation of the Club person of the year award. It is a very prestigious award, recognising a year, and often a lifetime of unstinting work and effort on behalf of the club. The recipient this year was Brian Gillespie, a man who has served Aodh Ruadh in numerous capacities over the past few years. The outgoing reserve manager was caught well and truly on the hop and hopefully the memory will leave a warm glow as he heads to Dubai for the next wee while. We wrapped up the presentations with two big team awards. First up were the Division 4 League winners, who had to battle hard to overcome a determined Pettigo challenge in the final. That was followed by presentation of medals to the senior reserve championship winning team. It was a phenomenal year for the Aodh Ruadh reserves. They stormed through the season just missing out on a place in the league finals. They then went on a charge through the senior reserve championship to claim the title in fine style on county final day against Gaoth Dobhair in MacCumhaill Park. With the night's ceremonials complete it was time for Keltic Kaos to take the stage and supply the music as Aodh Ruadh continued to mark the year past in appropriate style. We have pictures from the evening's festivities up on aodhruadh.org to view now.

Upcoming games in Father Tierney Park

Games in Father Tierney Park
It was a very busy few days in Father Tierney Park over the weekend with a big crowds attending two high profile schools games. We have great galleries of pictures from both the clash of Omagh CBS and Saint Gerald’s, Castlebar in the Hogan Cup semi-final, and the All-Ireland Camogie Final of the Post Primary C championship between Saint Mary’s Magherafelt and Convent of Mercy Roscommon. This weekend the town will see another major influx of supporters as the Park plays host to the NFL Division 1 game between Donegal and Louth on Sunday at 2pm.

CPR / AED training
Huge thanks to everyone who attended the CPR/AED course last Thursday. We had a fantastic turn out over the three nights with 51 people attending from the club and local Ballyshannon businesses. The club would not have been able to run these courses without Liam Thompson, Kenny Vaughan and Mark Sheerin who gave up their free time, and we really appreciate their hard work. Please keep an eye on Aodh Ruadh CLG Face page, club notes and the Ballyshannon Business chamber Facebook page as the club will be organising more courses over the summer.

Last one standing
The Rossies win against Monaghan, their first of the League, saved the day for more than half the punters this weekend. We lost 27 this week with 51 now marching on to week five.

Executive committee meeting
February’s meeting of the club executive committee will be take place on Wednesday, 28th February, at 8:30pm in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh. All members of the committee are asked to attend. Any items for Any Other Business should be with the club secretary by 2pm on Tuesday.
