Football
It was a typically tense derby affair in Gaelic Park on Sunday afternoon and a marvellous appetiser for the upcoming clash of these sides in the opening round of the championship. Bundoran got the run on Aodh Ruadh with an early goal, but the Ernesiders steadied the ship, and with David Dolan (3), Diarmaid McInerney (2), Shane McGrath and Nathan Boyle firing over, there was just a point between the sides at the interval, the hosts leading by 1-5 to 0-7. Ballyshannon had the better of things in the opening minutes of the second half and a Kyle Murray score put in them in the lead for the first time in the game. Bundoran quickly retook the lead though with their second goal of the game. Diarmaid McInerney got John McNulty's side back level as the sides went for a spell of tit-for-tat scoring. With ten minutes remaining, the Seasiders struck for their third goal of the game, but Aodh Ruadh responded well with two Philip Patton points and a David Dolan free edging them in front with time running out. Deep into injury time Bundoran managed salvage matters though as they worked a free which Gary Clancy pointed to leave the sides deadlocked at Bundoran 3-8 Aodh Ruadh 0-17 at the final whistle. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Callum O’Halloran, Conor Patton, Kyle Murray (0-1); Michael McKenna, Eddie Lynch, Mark McGlynn; Eamonn McGrath, Nathan Boyle (0-2f); Diarmaid McInerney (0-5, 4f), Philip Patton (0-2), Gary Carty; Shane McGrath (0-2), David Dolan (0-4, 1f), Niall Murray (0-1). Sub: Donagh McIntyre for Gary Carty 44 minutes.

Despite dropping the point, Aodh Ruadh are still in the hunt for a place in the Democrat Cup final against Naomh Conaill. With one round of games to go, Ballyshannon are currently on 16 points, while their only rival for the final berth are Kilcar are on 18 points. However, as Aodh Ruadh won the head-to-head against the Towney men 0-9 to 0-4 on the first weekend of the season, John McNulty's side can make the decider if results go their way. Basically, if Kilcar lose at Glenfin and Aodh Ruadh can beat Termon, that will be enough to see the Ernesiders into the final. The action throws in this Saturday in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh at 7pm with the Reserves throwing-in at 5.30pm in the curtain-raiser.

Big congrats to the 28th Infantry Battalion who won the Defence Forces Medical Services Gaelic Football final for the first time ever last Wednesday. Up against a combined Dublin team of Cathal Brugha and McKee Barracks they Donegal men won out on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-8 after extra-time. There was a considerable Aodh Ruadh involvement in the victory with David Dolan, Eddie Lynch, Niall Murray and Ryan Granaghan among the playing personnel and Kerry Ryan a mentor with the team.

Aodh Ruadh under 15 booked their place in the Division 2 county final with an impressive derby semi-final victory over Naomh Bríd in Bundoran last Wednesday. The first half was cagey enough, but the Ernesiders had the better of it and took a 3-3 to 0-3 in at the break. In the second half Ballyshannon continued to steadily build their tally and, despite a gallant effort by the Ballintra lads, it finished 6-8 to 1-10 in Aodh Ruadh's favour. The Shams defence looked very strong with Rian McCauley and Dáithi Sheerin both featuring well, meanwhile up front Eoghan Gallagher Killian McPhelim and Max Roper all caught the eye in a free scoring attack. Now all eyes turn to the county final in Convoy this Wednesday where the opposition will be Cloich Cheann Fhaola. Throw in is at 6.30pm, and we want to see plenty of Ballyshannon support down there to push the lads on in what will be the biggest game of the season so far.

Our under 13 Division 1 team had no game this week. Our Division 2 team hosted Killybegs on Monday evening. The development of the boys continues to be seen as we put in a good honest shift against the visitors. Playing against the breeze we went in 0-8 to 0-3 behind at the break and were unlucky not to have a few more scores on the board in a very competitive first half. We started the second half well only to be sucker punched by three early Killybegs goals. Credit to the boys who didn’t drop their heads and chipped away at the score board to the end, but ultimately were beaten by a stronger team. The Aodh Ruadh points came from Eoin McNulty and Anthony Duffy, who both put in a tremendous shift. Jack Gormley found the net with a well taken second half goal. The Kerrigan brothers again at the back had really solid games, whilst Jack Hassett was brilliant at times being the outlet for so many kick outs and setting up attacking plays. Iarla Hartin and Darragh Patton battled all day in the half back line. All 16 players got at least a half of football as we continue to develop the whole under 13 squad. Next week both teams are at home, the Division 1 encounter against Naomh Conaill, preceded by the Divison 2 visit of Dungloe. Training as usual at 5.45pm on Wednesday and at 3pm on Saturday at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

The under 11 White squad are away to Kilcar on Wednesday evening. Players are to be in Kilcar for 6.30pm with the game throwing in at 7pm. Both squads will have training on Saturday from 12 noon to 1pm.

The under 9s return to action on Saturday morning with an away fixture in Donegal Town at 11am. Training continues as normal on Friday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.

Well done and best of luck to Erne Gaels' Niall Cullen who has been appointed to take charge of the All-Ireland Minor Football Final between Galway and Mayo on Friday evening in Roscommon's Dr Hyde Park. Our own Sylvester Maguire will on umpiring duties with Niall on the day.

Hurling
The senior hurlers had another tough week. They entertained Omagh Saint Enda's on Tuesday evening, but despite a decent showing in the first half, the Tyrone outfit had the better of things in the second half and ran out comfortable winners. Things didn't get much easier on Friday evening when the Ballyshannon men travelled to Dungloe for their latest Senior Championship tie. As has been the pattern this season Aodh Ruadh did manage to make a decent game of it the first half, with points from Rory Cullen (0-3) and Danny Breen (0-2) making it 2-8 to 0-5 at half-time. Unfortunately, Dungloe cut loose in the second half and, although Cullen and Breen did manage to register again, the homesters strolled to a convincing 8-12 to 0-8 win.

It was an early start on a quiet Sunday morning for the young hurlers, coaches and parents who travelled to Croke Park for the Juvenile Hurling Committee’s annual trip. With our tour guide, Mark Sheerin, firmly ensconced on his foldable seat, and Paul Sheridan grudgingly taking on the role of the disciplinarian, we hit the road. Entertainment en route was a very unusual and wide-ranging repertoire of songs from the back of the bus – who knew our young hurlers were such talented singers! On arrival in the Capital we were greeted by the sun and treated to fantastic display of hurling. The lads were half cheering for Limerick and half cheering for Galway – apart from Antoin Duffy that is, who had one of each jersey on him! More singing accompanied us on the homeward journey and of course, the obligatory pitstop at McDonald’s in Cavan, for dinner – no spuds for us! It was a thoroughly enjoyable and successful day out – we lost no-one and broke little!

Our under 17s were denied the honours after a hard-fought Division 1 county final in the County Centre of Excellence. It finished 2-8 to 1-9 in favour of Carndonagh after 60 pulsating minutes of hurling. Ballyshannon had the wind in the first half and raced into a 1-2 to 0-2 lead thanks to points from Cian McKenna and Corey Sheridan and a scrambled Killian McPhelim goal. More points from Sheridan helped the Ballyshannon lads to 1-6 to 0-4 lead at the interval. Aodh Ruadh continued to dictate proceedings until the three-quarters mark, when they lead 1-9 to 0-6, however a disputed call by the referee saw Carndonagh grabbing a goal which gave them the momentum for the remainder of the game as they went on to hit an unanswered 1-2 and claim the county title. The wind on the day was no friend either, and Aodh Ruadh saw a number of frees and 65s go wide on the night. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Kenzie Ayres; Garreth Brennan, Cillian Bradshaw, Cian McDonald; Lennon Canny, Michael Doogan, Matthew Tierney; Tommy Winters (0-2, 1f), Jun Hui Lin; Cian McKenna (0-1), James Gallagher, Rian Kane; Corey Sheridan (0-5, 3f), Killian McPhelim (1-0), Liam Doogan (0-1). Subs: Shay Winters for Rian Kane (46).

There was no match action for the under 15s this week. They are still in training and focusing ahead to the Táin Óg semi-finals. The under 15 league start date has been announced and all the county action for these lads will commence on Wednesday July 27th. Training continues this Tuesday in Páirc Aodh Ruaidh from 5.50pm to 7pm.

The under 11s are eagerly awaiting the beginning of their 2022 season. They will start next week, Thursday 14th July. In the meantime, training continues with all details posted regularly to the team WhatsApp group.

Our under 7s and under 9s enjoyed a great morning of hurling in the Centre of Excellence last Sunday at the under 8 all-county blitz. Many thanks to all the parents for travelling to Convoy. Training continues for this group on Sunday, with all information in the team WhatsApp group.

As ever, anyone looking to join up and take part with our underage squads is more than welcome. Contact John Larkin on 086-1076883 for more information.

Ladies
Aodh Ruadh had a challenge against Derrygonnelly on Sunday afternoon. It was an enjoyable encounter between two game outfits. Megan McGee and Fiona McGonigle were very steady in defence, while Tara Khan worked hard throughout in midfield. Up front Mary Flora Scott and Cadhla Dolan both had excellent games. The next fixture for the senior ladies is the Division 2 league semi-final which takes place in Páirc Aoidh Ruadh this Sunday at 10.30am against Carndonagh. We would love to see a good crowd up to get behind the girls as they look to book their place in the league final.

Our minors had their first outing of the season last Thursday when they hosted Saint Eunan's in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The first half proved hard going for the homesters with only a goal from Cadhla Dolan and Katie O'Brien point all they had to show for their efforts. Meanwhile the Letterkenny girls had been making hay and hit 2-5. Aodh Ruadh rang the changes in the second half and Ciara Larkin, Andrea Moore and Katie McGowan all made a huge impression on their introduction. The homesters were a lot more dynamic going forward and Katie O'Brien, Cadhla Dolan, Aoibhínn McGarrigle landed points as they steadily found their attacking groove. With the clock running down goals from Niamh Hughes and Cara O'Loughlin helped Aodh Ruadh slash the Eunan's lead, however the whistle beat the girls on this occasion and the visitors held on for the win on a final scoreline of 5-11 to 5-7. Aodh Ruadh had a great defensive display from a high-quality full back line of Ciara Caldwell, Grainne Maguire and Megan Murphy. Emer O'Brien was sensational at half back, and we wish her well on her recovery from injury. As ever, Cara O'Loughlin, worked tirelessly in the middle third. Up front Katie McGowan was a revelation, with Andrea Moore also making a huge impression and Katie O'Brien popping some lovely scores. The minors are away to Ardara this Tuesday for their next outing, 7pm the throw-in time.

The under 14s are back in action this Saturday when they travel to Letterkenny to take on Saint Eunan's. Throw-in at O'Donnell Park is at 1pm.

The under 10s had a really enjoyable day on Saturday in Kinlough at the blitz organised by Melvin Gaels. The girls played a lot of good football and looked very impressive in their games against the other attendees at the competition, Melvin Gaels, Bundoran and Glencar Manorhamilton. The squad are taking a summer break now and will return to action on Thursday 4th August.

Our under 6 and under 8 girls and coaches are now taking a deserved break for the summer before going back at it again in September.

Football
Termon conceded the final games of the senior and reserve leagues, so Aodh Ruadh were left without a match on Saturday evening. Unfortunately, Glenfin couldn't do us a favour against Kilcar, and so Ballyshannon just miss out on a league final place. However, after a strong league campaign Aodh Ruadh will certainly be looking towards the senior championship and the challenge of Bundoran and Ardara with real confidence.

It wasn't to be for our under 15s in the Division 2 League final last Wednesday. There was a strong breeze at the Donegal Centre of Excellence in Convoy and Cloich Cheann Fhaola won the toss and sensibly elected to play with the elements. They made full use of the advantage and dominated the first half to run in 3-8, with Aodh Ruadh only managing a solitary point from Dara McGloin in response. Ballyshannon's cause wasn't helped when a penalty three minutes from the interval was missed by Cloich Cheann Fhaola, but the referee decided to have it retaken. The 16-point deficit was a huge mountain to climb in the second half, but the Ernesiders did work hard to claw their way back into the game. Dara McGloin, Ted O'Donnell, Killian McPhelim and Eoin Cassidy all took some nice scores from play, but the damage was done and a physically stronger and more developed Cloich Cheann Fhaola side emerged victorious on a final scoreline of 5-12 to 1-9. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Bobby Melly; Liam Doogan, Gareth Brennan, Jun Hui Lin; Killian McPhelim (0-1), Ted O’Donnell (0-1), Rian McCauley; Eoin Cassidy (0-1), Garvey Meade (0-1); Eoghan Gallagher, Barry Campbell (0-2f), Corey Sheridan (0-1f); Joseph Gibbions, Dara McGloin (1-2, 1m), Oran Gillespie. Subs: Daithi Sheerin for Rian McCauley 41 minutes, Dara O’Mahoney for Eoghan Gallagher 44 minutes, Anton O’Loughlin for Eoin Cassidy 50 minutes, Donagh Kelly for Oran Gillespie.

It was a good start to the week for the under 13s with both teams registering home wins on Monday evening. The Division 1 team got proceedings going with a convincing win against Naomh Conaill to record their first league win. The forwards were on fire with Calum Dorrian and MJ Ward chalking up 2-9 between them to take a half-time lead of 4-9 to 1-3, the other goals coming from Cole Connolly and Darragh McCready. The second half continued with a scoring spree of 3-3 before Glenties finished well putting 2-6 on the board in the final quarter, but in the end Aodh Ruadh had the result sewn up from well out with a final scoreline of 8-18 to 3-12. Some really good performances on the night, with Marko Branley again reading the play very well, while Anthony and Anton Duffy made great runs from half back. Cole Connolly had a great game in the middle and again the McCadden twins got on plenty of ball. Ward and Dorrian really clicked with some superb scoring between them.
The Division 2 team took on Dungloe in a very competitive match on the top field and also got their first league win of the season. Shaun McGarrigle was rock solid in goal and again the Kerrigan brothers, Dara Patton and Iarla Hartin defended ferociously in the back line, keeping the visitors to 3 points as we took a 1-5 to 0-3 half-time lead. Dungloe went score for score in the second half before a strong finish had them within two points, but Jack Gormley had the last say with a late goal after a powerful run to see the boys home with a 2-9 to 0-10 win. Conor Greenan worked hard and linked a lot of play from half back. Anthony Duffy and Eoin McNulty held the middle well, with Duffy on the score sheet too with 1-3. All players got plenty of football. With a few regulars missing due to holiday and injury, special mention must go to the under 11 boys who stepped up to offer some reinforcements, Daniel McLoone, Ciaran McGuinness and Louis Hassett were hungry for ball and involved in a huge amount of play. Well done boys!
Next up in Division 1 is Ardara at home, possibly on Wednesday 20th July due to other fixture clashes. The Division 2 team play Four Masters at home on Monday at 6pm. Training continues as usual on Wednesday and Saturday this week.

Our under 11 white squad travelled to Kilcar last Wednesday. We started slowly, but grew into the game, finishing very strongly. Well done to all the boys who got great game time. This Wednesday the White squad have a match against Saint Naul's in Mountcharles. Players should be in Mountcharles for 6.30pm with the action getting under way at 7pm. The White squad will then have training on Saturday from 10.30am to 11.30am. Please note the time change for this session. The Green squad will be taking on Grange on Saturday. Players should be in Grange for 12.30pm with throw-in scheduled for 1pm.

Our under 9s travelled to Donegal Town on Saturday morning with 27 players lining out. We had three very competitive fixtures against Four Masters with the Aodh Ruadh lads playing a lot of good football. Next up is a home game against Bundoran on Wednesday evening at 6.30pm. Further details will be posted on the team WhatsApp group.

Well done to our under 5 players and coaches who wrapped up last Friday evening after a great year of craic and learning. Training started in the Mercy Hall back in February and moved to Holy Family pitch when weather improved. The lads got to pull on the club jersey for the first time last Friday and they got medals to mark their progress this year. Thanks to the coaches and mentors for all their hard work this season.

Well done to the Donegal Masters, especially our own Kerry Ryan and Dermot Slevin on securing a 1-9 to 2-15 away win over London last Saturday, with Slev contributing a point to the final tally. The Masters now take a 100 percent record into their final group fixture on Sunday 23rd July against Tyrone.

Hurling
The senior Aodh Ruadh hurlers are in intermediate championship semi-final action this Friday against Carndonagh in the County Centre of Excellence at 8.30pm.

The minors marched out once again against a Sligo team in the Táin Óg league in a drizzly, miserable Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Monday evening. Strandhill / Coolera took an early lead and stayed ahead for a lot of what was to prove a tightly fought and highly entertaining game. At the half-time mark only a point separated the teams. The visitors enjoyed more of the spoils in the second half and despite two great saves on the line by Kenzie Ayres, the Sligo boys were ahead by seven with only a handful of minutes to go. A late substitute change saw Rian Kane and Lennon Canny re-introduced and that served to shake up the Aodh Ruadh boys. Killian McPhelim was strong up front and birthday boy, Killian Bradshaw was equally strong in the back line, particularly in the second half. Corey Sheridan, as consistent as ever, found the net when it mattered. Some great passing and solo runs by Maitiu Tierney and James Gallagher saw the lads win by a goal on a score line of 6-7 to 5-7. Their Championship semi-final has been put back by a week so the lads get a rest this Thursday. Training continues as normal, with updates communicated via the team WhatsApp group.

There was no match action for the under 15s this week. They are still in training and looking ahead to the Táin Óg semi-finals. The under 15 league start date has been announced and all the county action for these lads will commence on Wednesday July 27th. Training continues this Tuesday in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh from 5.50pm to 7pm.

The under 11s are eagerly awaiting the beginning of their 2022 season. This week they take on Letterkenny Gaels in their under 11 Mini League. Best of luck to all the players and management.

Our under 9s are back in training this Sunday at 11am.

Our under 7s and under 5s have taken a two week break from training and will return to action on Sunday 24th July.

As ever, anyone looking to join up and take part with our underage squads is more than welcome. Contact John Larkin on 086-1076883 for more information.

Ladies
Carndonagh were unable to field for the league semi-final on Sunday, and so our senior ladies were promoted to Division 1. This is a great achievement for the ladies and a credit to all the hard work they have put in. They will now face Na Dúnaidh in the Division 2 League final next Sunday. Keep an eye on the club's social media output for full details. With Carndonagh unable to field we had a challenge against Belcoo and the Fermanagh ladies provided the Shamettes with a good work out on a humid morning. There were a lot of good displays with Ana Keon and Kate Cunningham very good in the defence Caoimhe Keon and Erin O'Loughlin worked hard in midfield, while up front Donna Martin was a great outlet and Aoife Bromley hit a lovely goal. In other news the ladies championship draw took place last Tuesday and saw our senior ladies drawn out against Ardara, Milford and Saint Mary's, Convoy in the Intermediate Championship group one. Meanwhile our junior ladies were drawn in group one and will be facing off against MacCumhaill's, Letterkenny Gael and Buncrana II in the Junior B Championship.

The minors are in the middle of a break before their next outing which will be an away trip, against Buncrana on Tuesday 19th July at 7pm.

The under 14 girls put in the performance of all performances yet against Saint Eunan's in O’Donnell Park last Saturday with an unbelievable of score of 12-29 to 2-1. 25 girls travelled and all got game-time. They were all excelled themselves on the day. Some stand-out players were Megan Murphy who was spectacular in defence, making sure no ball went past her in the first half. Rebecca Downey played great defensively after a long journey from the States and Sophia Mulligan was a force to be reckoned with alongside Aodhbha O’Donnell. The dynamic duo of Laoise Foy and Emily McNamee were phenomenal in the middle of the field. There was some fantastic work in the forward line from all forwards, but particular mention has to go to Katie McCaffrey, Emma O’Donnell, Rachel Gillespie, Ciara Larkin and Katie McGowan who put away over half the scores on the day. In the second half Lauren Gallagher shot over three points and Emily Doherty yet again was a great worker in defence. The return of Eabha Rogers to the playing field was a great addition to a team which is really putting in a superb effort. The tackle bags at training certainly did the trick. A huge well done to the girls and thanks to the supporters for travelling. Training continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Coláiste Cholmcille at 7.30pm, with the next match of the league programme at home on Saturday against Ardara at 1pm.

Ladies
Pride of place this week goes to the senior ladies who return to the top flight of Donegal club football as Division 2 champions thanks to a hard earned 2-14 to 1-9 victory over Na Dúnaibh in Lifford on Sunday afternoon. Played in hot conditions and facing the breeze in the first half Aodh Ruadh were aiming to overturn a heavy against the Rosguill outfit during the league. The first half was nip and tuck with the Shamettes just about having the better of exchanges. An Eimear McMahon free in the first minute was quickly cancelled out before Cáit Gillespie nosed her side in front again. Downings came back with a dead ball before another McMahon free edged Aodh Ruadh in front again. It was level pegging once more before McMahon's first point from play made it 0-4 to 0-3 as the sides broke for a much-needed water-break. Na Dúnaibh squared things up on the restart before McMahon fired over her second from play and then lashed a penalty to the back of the net after the ball was handled on the ground in the square. Downings hit back with a point, but McMahon was unstoppable and fired over another fine effort to make it 1-6 to 0-5. Just before the half-time whistle Downings got a shot in the arm when they raided forward and found the back of the net to leave the minimum between the sides after a draining first 30 minutes of football. The second half saw Aodh Ruadh gradually turning the screw. They got the perfect start with two quality McMahon efforts, but Downings then enjoyed their best period of the game, hitting three unanswered points from the 35th to the 38th minute to close to within a point of Ballyshannon once more. From there to the finish though, Aodh Ruadh took over, aided by Downings being reduced to 14 players through a black card. An Orla Keon point made it 1-10 to 1-8, and that was followed by points from McMahon and Cáit Gillespie. Na Dúnaibh did strike back with a point, but a minute later the writing was on the wall when Gillespie charged through the centre and cracked a shot off the crossbar and followed up with a tap to the net to make it 2-12 to 1-9. Fittingly the last two points of the day went to Eimear McMahon, simply unmarkable on the day. The final whistle set off scenes of pandemonium with this being the first trophy the Aodh Ruadh ladies have claimed on the field of play since their 2010 Intermediate Championship triumph. Captain Anna Rafferty received the cup and made a great speech, and paid tribute to a Na Dúnaibh side who had been such doughty opponents, wishing them all the best in the championship. After that it was back to Ballyshannon where the beeping victory cavalcade got a great reception. Afterwards the team celebrated the achievement in style in the Creevy Pier Hotel, and Keith McBride and his crew deserve special mention for the wonderful hospitality they extended to our champions. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Brídín Maguire; Ciara Caldwell, Sara Gallagher, Hannah Doherty; Síofra Hughes, Caitlin McGarrigle, Anna Rafferty; Erin O'Loughlin, Caoimhe Keon; Orla Keon (0-1), Cáit Gillespie (1-2), Aoibhinn McGarrigle; Donna Martin, Eimear McMahon (1-11, pen, 6f), Tara Khan. Substitutes used: Cara O'Loughlin for Síofra Hughes, Terri Gallagher for Donna Martin, Kate Cunningham for Anna Rafferty; Mary Flora Scott for Aoibhinn McGarrigle, Roisin McGloin for Hannah Doherty. The ladies' attention now turns to the championship with the first round of games on August 7th with the senior side up against Convoy in the Intermediate championship and the reserves facing Buncrana II in the Junior B championship.

Congratulations to Tara Khan who had a particularly rewarding week. Four days prior to capturing the Division 2 trophy she helped Custume Barracks land the All-Ireland Army Sevens title. Congrats also to Lucy McGlynn who is heading to the World Under-20 Championships in early August after breaking the Donegal 100m hurdles record in Tullamore last Sunday. Lucy won gold in both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles at the National Junior and under 23 Track and Field Championships in Tullamore.

The minors return to action this week with an away trip to Buncrana on Tuesday at 7pm.

Our under 14s had their first defeat of the league last Thursday at home against a strong Ardara team losing 5-10 to 0-4. A few key players being away were a loss to the girls on the day. Aodhbha O'Donnell, Megan Murphy and Ellen Monaghan tried their hardest in defence. Elsewhere Lauren Gallagher and Shannon Gavigan played well up front. The stand out player on the day was Emma O'Donnell who never gave up for her team. We wish Megan Murphy and Aine Neilan a speedy recovery with their injuries. The team's next match is away to Dungloe this Saturday at 1pm. All players should be in Dungloe for 12pm. Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm in the Coláiste Cholmcille school field.

Football
The minors produced a strong first and final quarter to take the points against a fancied Michael Murphy-managed Glenswilly side on Friday last. In a blistering start Aodh Ruadh raced into a 1-2 to 0-1 lead after 10 minutes. Robbie Murphy with the major and some fine long-range scores to set the tone for the Ballyshannon men. Glenswilly’s quality began to show thereafter though with county minor captain Donal Gallagher’s strong running from wing back starting to open up chances for the Glen men. All the while the battle of the game between Aodh Ruadh’s Aiden Sweeny at full back and county man Daithi Gildea was playing out and worth the admission alone in a hugely entertaining first half. Glenswilly led by a point at the break and Aodh Ruadh set about drawing level on the resumption with scores from Robbie Murphy and Shane Delahunty. Quick fire goals from Jack Gallagher and Shane Delahunty then put Aodh Ruadh in a commanding position. Glenswilly were never fully put to bed though and managed to cut Aodh Ruadh’s lead down to four with 15 to play. However, excellent defensive play from Corey Sheridan, Aiden Sweeny, and James Gallagher sent Aodh Ruadh away on lethal counter attacking raids for Eoghan Kelly and Robbie Murphy to keep the score board ticking over. With the game in the balance a sensational turnover from Aiden Sweeney was worked to young Eoin Cassidy on his competitive minor debut to fire to the back of the Glenswilly net. The impressive Jack Gallagher sealed the win with his second goal of the game late on. There were notable performances for Aodh Ruadh on the night from Aiden Sweeny who was outstanding in defence going toe-to-toe with the also excellent Daithi Gildea and more than breaking even. Aiden’s cousin Aonghus also put in a massive shift in midfield dominating both kick-outs. Elsewhere Eoghan Kelly was a rock at centre back while Shane Delahunty, Jack Gallagher and Robbie Murphy all worked hard and contributed hugely to the win. Credit also to a number of under 15 players who were equal to anything Glenswilly threw at them. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follow: Corey Sheridan; Morgan McNamee, Aiden Sweeny, James Gallagher; Shane McGloin, Eoghan Kelly (0-1), Tommy Clyne; Aonghus Sweeney, Shane Delahunty (1-1); James Monaghan, Jack Gallagher (2-2), James Ward; Garvey Meade, Robbie Murphy (1-3), Dara McGloin. Subs: Eoin Cassidy (1-1) for Morgan McNamee, Gareth Brennan for James Ward, Barry Campbell for James Monaghan.

Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh was the place to be on Monday evening as the under 15s of Aodh Ruadh and Naomh Conaill served up a right rip-roaring championship classic. The Glenties lads began like a house on fire, and before they know what hit them Ballyshannon were 13 points adrift and reeling. The hosts managed to steady the ship somewhat in the run up to the break and had trimmed the deficit back to eight points by the short whistle. In the second half it was Aodh Ruadh's turn to enjoy a purple patch, and their front six massively upped the work rate to put the Glenties kick out under heavy pressure. Their intensity reaped it's reward as Aodh Ruadh steadily ate into Naomh Conaill's cushion before taking the lead with the final whistle not far off. Both sides gave their all in the final stages of this magnificent tussle, but it was Aodh Ruadh who secured a memorable victory on a 5-13 to 2-18 scoreline. Every member of the Ballyshannon team had their moments, but Bobby Melly deserves a special mention for his quality kick outs, as do Gareth Brennan and Jun Hui Lin who helmed a defence with plenty of work on their hands against a lively Glenties attack. Garvey Meade was superb in the middle of the pitch while up front Dara McGloin, Barry Campbell and Corey Sheridan put in a huge body of work and took some wonderful scores. The lads face another tough test next Monday when they travel to a strong Cloich Cheann Fhaola for their next championship. That will be followed by another away trip the following Monday to Termon.

The under 13 Division 1 match against Ardara this week has been postponed. The Division 2 team will be in action though, taking on Four Masters this Wednesday evening at Páirc Aodh Ruadh. Training continues on Saturday and Monday at usual times.

The under 11 White squad played Saint Naul's in Mountcharles last Wednesday, putting in an excellent performance. Our Green squad were away to Grange on Saturday afternoon, and put in one of their best performances of the year. Both squads are showing a great battling spirit, and progressing with every game. This Wednesday sees the Green squad training from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, while the White squad have a home match against Four Masters. All players should be up at the Park for 5.30pm. On Saturday the Green squad will be travelling to a blitz in Dungloe. All players should be in Dungloe for 9.45am.

Under 9 training continues as normal on Friday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille from 6.45pm to 7.45pm. The next team's next fixture will be away in Ardara this Saturday. Further details will be posted on the team WhatsApp group.

Hurling
Aodh Ruadh delivered one of their best performances in recent week on Thursday evening when they took on Carndonagh in the Intermediate Hurling Championship semi-final at the Donegal Centre of Excellence in Convoy. The Ballyshannon men had been hurting after a heavy defeat to Carn in the Senior Championship and were eager to make amends here. They started promisingly with points from Senan Rooney and Aaron Cullen, but the Inishowen men hit five unanswered points in reply. Aodh Ruadh didn't wilt though and points from Kyle McNulty, Cullen and Rooney left just two points between the sides. Unfortunately, this was a game where goals were going to have a major impact and Carndonagh bagged four of them. Two of them now arrived in quick succession and while Aodh Ruadh responded with points from Cullen and McNulty they went in at the break trailing by 2-9 to 0-9. Carndonagh then had the better of the third quarter, picking off 1-3 to Aodh Ruadh's return of 0-2. Ballyshannon continued to battle hard, but the Inishowen men were getting their scores easier and were able to see the game out to a 4-17 to 0-14 victory. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows. Kieran Daly; Conor Kennedy, Adam Rami, Peter Horan; Ryan Keenaghan, Cáelán Drummond (0-1), Pat Cassidy; Brendan Gillespie (0-1), Senan Rooney (0-4f); Kyle McNulty (0-4), Martin Larkin, Ryan Ayres, Rory Cullen, Mick Reddin, Aaron Cullen (0-4, 2f). Subs: Conal Sweeny for Peter Horan 12 minutes; Ciaran Kilgannon for Mick Reddin half-time; Dan Downey for Rory Cullen 40 minutes, Jason Patterson for Martin Larkin 45 minutes, Danny Breen for Adam Rami 52 minutes, Adam Clarke for Ryan Ayres 56 minutes.

The seniors finally got their long-awaited win 24 hours later on Friday evening with a 2-18 to 3-9 Cú Chulainn Cup quarter-final victory over Omagh Saint Enda's in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. In a tough and exciting encounter Ballyshannon led from the front and at half-time were five points to the good. Omagh had won the previous tie between these sides though and came out with the bit between their teeth after the break. They cut the gap to within a goal shortly after the restart, but Aodh Ruadh were not going to be denied in this highly competitive game and kept picking off scores to clinch a Cú Chulainn Cup last four berth. Best wishes to Conall Sweeny for a speedy recovery from the injury he sustained in this encounter. This group of lads deserve great credit for putting in a great performance after suffering a Championship defeat on the previous evening. Aodh Ruadh are now looking forward to a Cú Chulainn Cup semi-final clash against East Cavan Gaels next weekend. Keep an eye on the club's social media output for fixture details.

Our under 15s made the long trip to Swatragh in Derry on Saturday where they played their Táin Óg final. Aodh Ruadh were entered in Division 1 of the competition and took on some of the top hurling sides in Ulster. The Ballyshannon lads gave a great account of themselves over the course of the league stage against some very high calibre opposition. Saturday's game was a hotly contested battle, and at half time we were two points down on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-9. The Ernesiders battled hard over the course of the second half, however Swatragh proved just that little bit too strong for the Donegal lads and ran out the victors by four points.

Our under 11s started their league with a journey up to Letterkenny Gaels last Thursday. We fielded a very young team with most of the players still under 10, but remained competitive against a stronger Gaels outfit. We had some excellent performances right through the team, but unfortunately lost on a scoreline of 4-0 to 2-1. Next up we face Carndonagh at the Donegal Centre of Excellence in Convoy.

Our under 9s are back in training this Sunday at 11am. Having taken a two-week break, our under 7s and under 5s are also back in action this Sunday at 12 noon in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

As ever, anyone looking to join up and take part with our underage squads is more than welcome. Contact John Larkin on 086-1076883 for more information.

Football
A couple of big dates for your diaries folks! The highly anticipated Senior Football Championship first round clash between Aodh Ruadh and Bundoran will take place on Sunday, 14th August at 4pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The last time the sides met in the championship it was the honours to the Realt na Mara men in an intermediate semi-final, and we know there will be precious little between the sides on the day. The following Saturday, 20th August Aodh Ruadh will be away to Ardara, throw-in at Pearse Memorial Park being for 5.30pm. We wish the management and team the best of luck in their championship preparations.

Congratulations to Manager Barry Ward, and the Donegal team on booking their place in the Buncrana Cup final with a deserved 2-13 to 3-7 victory over Monaghan on Saturday. The Tir Chonaill lads will now be preparing for a Buncrana Cup final clash with Tyrone in just under three weeks time. We wish Barry, our own James Monaghan and all the Donegal team the very best for the decider.

The minors had a break last week and return to action this Friday when they travel to the county ground to take on MacCumhaill's in their next outing in the championship Throw-in at Ballybofey is at 7pm.

The under 15s made the long trip on Monday evening down to Cloich Cheann Fhaola. It proved a fruitful journey with the Ballyshannon boys controlling matters from start to finish as they ran out 5-6 to 1-6 winners with a very polished performance. Jun Hui Lin was exceptional at full back and the hosts were unable to trouble Bobby Melly with many shots with Rian McCauley and Ted O'Donnell also doing some great defensive work. Up the other end of the pitch Barry Campbell was in wizard-mode and orchestrated some wonderful passages of football. Dara McGloin and Eoin Cassidy both hit the net over the course of the 60 minutes and Anton O'Loughlin, Max Roper and Fionn Hartin also caused the Blues' defence plenty of trouble on their introduction. The under 15s are back on the road next week with Termon the opposition. Throw in at Burn Road is down for 7pm on Tuesday evening.

The under 13 Division 1 team had no game last week. The Division 2 team took on Four Masters B team on Wednesday evening and led heading into the final five minutes, but unfortunately shipped two late goals to lose out on a scoreline of 4-7 to 3-8. Credit to the boys for putting in such a big effort. This week the Division 1 team travel to Four Masters A on Wednesday evening. The Division 2 team are scheduled to play Saint Naul's at Mountcharles, also on Wednesday. Training continues on Saturday, with the deferred fixture for the Division 1 team against Ardara down for Monday evening, August 1st. Details when finalised will be circulated on the parents' WhatsApp group.

Our under 11 White squad played Four Masters at home last Wednesday. All the boys got full game time and put in a great performance. Thanks to our referees Stephen Ward and Gerard Ferguson. On Saturday it was the turn of the Green squad, and they made the long journey to Dungloe for a blitz. We had games against the hosts, Naomh Mhuire and Cloich Cheann Fhaola. Huge thanks to the Dungloe club for the invite, and for running a brilliant tournament and the great spread of refreshments. The under 11 schedule for the following week sees both squads in action on Wednesday for an internal match at 7pm. Then on Saturday the White squad have a match against Naomh Ultan at 12pm noon in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

The under 9s put up a great performance on Saturday morning under terrible conditions in Ardara. Many thanks to all the boys and parents who travelled. Next up is a home fixture against Saint Naul's on Saturday at 11am. Training continues as normal on Friday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.

Ladies
The minor ladies made the long trip to Buncrana last Tuesday and put in a great performance to come away with the points. It was a youthful Aodh Ruadh line out, but the girls really stepped up to the mark, with defender Jessie O'Mahoney one of the stand out performers on the night. Buncrana worked hard throughout, but the Ballyshannon girls just had a bit too much fire power. Captain Emer O'Brien got her side off the mark in the first minute and, alongside Cara O'Loughlin, she gave Aodh Ruadh a great platform in midfield. The visitors had further scores from Niamh Hughes, Ciara Gillespie, Annie Keon, Andrea Moore, Cara O'Loughlin and Cadhla Dolan. On the resumption the pace of scoring slowed somewhat, and Buncrana rallied to hit some good efforts of their own. Ciara Gillespie, Cadhla Dolan and Dáirín Sweeny all registered in the second half, but the highlight of the game was undoubtedly Rachel Gillespie hitting the net on her minor debut at just 12 years and nine months! All-in-all a marvellous display by all the girls who travelled. The girls have their last away trip of the round robin stages this Tuesday when they head to Glenties to take on Naomh Conaill. Throw-in is at 7pm on the Comprehensive pitch.

The under 14 girls sustained their second successive loss this week. The girls faced a very strong Dungloe team who used the following wind very effectively in the first half. The girls dug deep in the second half and took some well worked scores. There were excellent performances throughout the entire panel, but particularly from Megan Murphy, Laoise Foy, Niamh Duffy, Shannon Gavigan and Emily Doherty in the second half. Training for the panel continues on Tuesday and Thursday.

The very best of luck to Lucy McGlynn as she heads off to Colombia this week for the World Under 20 Athletics Championships, where she will be representing her country in the 100 metre hurdles and 400 metre hurdles.

Hurling
The senior hurlers received a bye into the Cú Chulainn Cup Shield final after East Cavan Gaels failed to field for last weekend's scheduled semi-final. Aodh Ruadh now await the winner of the clash between Tremane of Roscommon and Sligo's Naomh Eoin in the final. That decider is down for next weekend, so look out for fixture details on the club's social media output across the week.

Our under 15s start their Donegal League campaign with a trip to Dungloe this Thursday. The very best of luck to all the players and management in their coming season.

Our under 11s had a tough day at the office when they took on Carndonagh in the Donegal Centre of Excellence on Thursday. Our opponents were a physically stronger and older team, with most of our boys still only in their first year at this age bracket. Aodh Ruadh kept fighting right to the very end of this game, and the players carried themselves well throughout. Next up the lads face Setanta away this Thursday evening, with throw-in at 7pm down at the Crossroads.

Our under 9s continue their training this Sunday. The time for this week's session will be confirmed in the team's WhatsApp group.

Having taken a two-week break, our under 7s and under 5s were back in action last Sunday at 12 noon. Training continues this Sunday, with the time for this week's session still to be confirmed.

As ever, anyone looking to join up and take part with our underage squads is more than welcome. Contact John Larkin on 086-1076883 for more information.

Join the Sunrise for STOP walk this Saturday
Aodh Ruadh would like as many people, young and old, and from our neighbouring communities to join our Sunrise for STOP walk this Saturday, 30th July at 5.30am in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. We would like you to bring your family and friends, or just turn up on your own and join us! This will be a relaxed, positive event which aims to promote the importance of community in raising awareness of mental wellness and the free counselling service offered by North West STOP. After our Sunrise walk we would like you join us for a cuppa and a morning chat. To avail of counselling, please phone or text our counselling co-ordinator on 086-7772009. If you would like to register to receive your T-shirt and make a small donation to STOP you can log onto the website www.northweststop.ie or give a small donation on the morning.

Aodh Ruadh AllStars up and running
The Aodh Ruadh AllStars will be staging their first AllStar training session this Saturday from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. If any potential participants missed the registration session last Saturday please let us know and we will try to meet you in advance of our first training session. We are almost at capacity for this group, but still have space for a couple more children. Please contact Maura on 086-3840099 if you would like to express an interest. The AllStars Coaching team are really looking forward to getting started with our amazing athletes.

Aodh Ruadh goes totally smoke free
Aodh Ruadh club is delighted to announce that we are going SMOKE-FREE this Saturday, 30th July. This means no smoking on the entire club grounds, including e-cigarettes. The club is the heartbeat of our community and we believe that this type of initiative will not only raise awareness, but also protect people from second hand smoke, reduce smoking initiation rates among young people and increase the amount of people seeking help to quit. We appreciate all your support in ensuring we transition to moving fully smoke-free on all our club grounds.

Neck and neck in the final furlong for our Pundits!
It couldn't possibly be closer with only one event remaining in our Pick of the Pundits competition. With the Ladies All-Ireland football final next weekend Eamonn Martin Maguire and Maurice McLaughlin are neck and neck in pole position for the top prize of €250! Maurice's in-depth cycling knowledge saw him pulling in a hefty eight points on the victory of Jonas Vingegaard in the Tour de France! The chasing pack is tightly bunched too, so a win for the Kerry ladies who have a huge 10 points riding on them, could blow the table wide apart, while a win for Meath with five points on them could still cause a lot of movement. It's almost certain the tiebreaker question will be called up to decide the final rankings! As well as the €250 top prize there is €100 for second place, €75 for third, €50 for fourth and a fifth prize for €25. We wish all our pundits the very best of luck as we head into our final weekend of action.
