Aodh Ruadh were back in league action after a few weeks off, with Naomh Conaill the opposition in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. They landed two early points, but a Brick Molloy goal after 14 minutes erased that good work. The sides then swapped points over the next ten minutes to make it 0-5 to 1-2. Diarmaid McInerney (2), Darren Drummond, Senan Rooney and David Dolan were the men on the mark for the Ernesiders. In a pattern which was repeat itself at the end of the second half Glenties reeled off a quick succession of unanswered points before the break to lead by 1-5 to 0-5. The visitors then added another two points at the start of the second half to give themselves a five point cushion, but Aodh Ruadh clawed that back with three points in a row to leave it at 0-8 to 1-7 with 37 minutes played. The Blues hit the next two points before Aodh Ruadh again left a goal between them with ten minutes remaining in the game. The sides exchanged points once more and with seven minutes to play the tie was still in the balance. It was Glenties who pushed for the tape though and they tagged on two points to confirm the victory as it ended Aodh Ruadh 0-10 Naomh Conaill 1-12. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Nathan Boyle; Callum O’Halloran, Jason Granaghan, Senan Rooney (0-2); Michael McKenna, Darren Drummond (0-1), Niall Murray; Cian Dolan, Eamonn McGrath; Diarmaid McInerney (0-5, 4f), David Dolan (0-2), Ryan Keenaghan; Eddie Lynch, Matt Gillespie, Darragh Flood Dolan. Subs: Colm McGloin for Senan Rooney 46 minutes. We have a gallery of shots from the game live on aodhruadh.org now.It was a tough day at the office for the reserves with a dominant Naomh Conaill outfit running out winners on a 2-7 to 5-17 scoreline.
Sunday sees Aodh Ruadh take on Malin in Connolly Park down in Inishowen with the reserve game throwing in at 1.30pm ahead of the senior clash at 3pm, with both sides chasing valuable points.
Minor training continues on Wednesday and Friday this week as preparation is in full flow for the all county championship which throws-in on Monday evening at 7.30pm in Father Tierney Park against Letterkenny Gaels. All support very much welcome.
Monday evening saw our under 16 boys returning to all-county league action away to Kilcar after a four week break. Aodh Ruadh started slowly and were 0-6 to 0-2 down after 15 minutes. The Ernesiders rallied and fired over three unanswered points to leave them only a point behind. Kilcar raided up the field though and netted a goal on the counter-attack to make it 1-9 to 0-6 as the sides turned around. The second half saw Kilcar open up an 11 point lead after another goal, however Aodh Ruadh got it back to five points with ten minutes left. The game was still there for the taking, but it was Kilcar who finished stronger and they ran out winners, 3-20 to 2-13.
Our under 15 footballers travelled to south Armagh for the Regional Féile last Saturday. We were hosted by Saint Patrick's, Cullyhanna, the 2024 All-Ireland Intermediate Club champions. The Orchard club did a great job running the day off smoothly. Aodh Ruadh played Killeevan of Monaghan first, where our lads put in a very solid shift to win comfortably on a scoreline of 5-4 to 1-10, the goals scored by Callum Dorrian (2), Eoghan McCadden and Dara McCready and a bizarre own goal by the unfortunate Killeevan keeper. Our second game saw us face Slaughtneil of Derry. We held our own against a big team with a Dorrian penalty keeping us in the game, but the Oak Leafers finished the stronger to win out on a scoreline of 0-6 to 1-0, eventually going on to top the group with three wins from three. Our final group game was against the hosts, Saint Patrick's, who were cheered on by a good local support. Our boys knuckled down to put some early scores of the board and maintained a lead throughout, winning on a final scoreline of 2-6 to 0-3. The two wins left us in second place behind Slaughtneil so we went on to face table toppers from the other group, Naomh Mearnog (Portmarnock) in the cup semi-final. The Dublin lads were on a different level unfortunately having strong panel of 2009 players and comfortably won out in the end and were eventual winners of the cup. All 21 players who travelled enjoyed good pitch time, with the Féile substitution rules ensuring good rotation of players and game time for all. Despite the early exit it was a very enjoyable day out, topped off with a stop in Canavan's at Garvaghy for a well earned feed. Thanks again to our sponsors for the day and to Billy and all at Cleary's Garage for allowing us hold our main fundraising car wash there. The Aodh Ruadh panel for the day was as follows: Alistair Cian, Alex Kerrigan, Aaron McLoone, Ethan Kerrigan, Oisin McCadden, Anthony Duffy, Eogan McCadden, Antoin Duffy, Eoghan Blakey Gallagher, Manus Conlon, Dara McCready, Jack Hassett, Dara Vaughan, MJ Ward, Callum Dorrian, Dylan Cullen, Iarla Hartin, Oisin McGrath, Micheal McGrath, John McHugh, Senan Ward, Louis Hassett. Finally thanks to the management, parents and guardians for all their work across the course of the competition.
The under 12s were in action against Naomh Conaill on Friday evening. We have a gallery of shots from match live on aodhruadh.org now.
Under 10 training continues on Tuesday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille from 7pm to 8pm. On Saturday the boys welcome Naomh Conaill to Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh for a 12 noon throw in.
The under 8 boys had a very enjoyable trip down to Naomh Columba on Saturday morning where they played two games against the hosts. Thanks to the parents for travelling! This week we are on the road again, this time to Mountcharles to face Saint Naul's. The squad will have a break from games the following week.
Many thanks to all the stewards who were present in Father Tierney Park to help facilitate the Southern Regional Board final between Naomh Bríd and Four Masters. It was a great occasion and we have a gallery of pictures from action live now on aodhruadh.org.
Ladies
The Aodh Ruadh ladies made the trip to Leiter on Friday evening for their Division 1 meeting with Dungloe. It was to be an open and entertaining affair with the scores flowing throughout, with tenacious defending from both sides. It was first blood to the Reds a minute in, but shortly after Caoimhe Devine seized on the ball and laced to the back of the net to give Aodh Ruadh the lead. Cáit Gillespie then split the posts, but Dungloe were back on terms by the 11th minute. A minute later Gillespie pointed again to edge her side back into a lead they would retain to the final whistle. That lead was stretched five minutes later when Gillespie broke through the defence and placed her shot past the Dungloe keeper. The Reds came back with a free but a great piece of forward play by Caoimhe Devine sent Orla Keon through one on one with the keeper and she made no mistake. Dungloe came back with another free, but a point from Keon left Aodh Ruadh leading at the interval 0-6 to 3-3. Aodh Ruadh were playing up the hill in the second half and Dungloe made a threatening opening with a string of early points, a lone Gillespie point the only reply as the scoreboard read 0-9 to 3-4 with 37 minutes gone. Ballyshannon had sorted themselves defensively by this stage though and a Gillian Dufficy free quickly followed by a point for Cáit Gillespie gave Aodh Ruadh the impetus again. The tie really moved beyond Dungloe when a Gillespie effort from range squeezed over the line, Caoimhe Devine removing any doubt from the referee's mind by booting to the net. Dungloe kept fighting though and hit 1-1 as the game moved into the final ten minutes. The Shamettes were finishing strong though and an Orla Keon point sandwiched between two gems from the indefatigable Andrea Moore kept clear distance between the sides as the clock ran down. Dungloe did hit a late 1-1, but it was job done for Aodh Ruadh as it finished Aodh Ruadh 4-10 Dungloe 2-12. A doughty team effort from the visitors got the points here. Young Katie McGowan is really looking the part in senior football, while Caitlin McGarrigle was back to her best before having to leave the fray. Orla Keon made light of her long trip from Dublin to play a pivotal role alongside the magnificent Annalisa Rabbitte. Up front Cáit Gillespie caused endless problems, while Gillian Dufficy and Caoimhe Devine supplied a lethal attacking edge. Roisín Maguire, Katie McGowan, Roisin McGloin, Niamh Barrett; Aoibhinn McGarrigle, Caitlin McGarrigle, Sara Gallagher; Orla Keon (1-2), Annalisa Rabbitte; Andrea Moore (0-2), Cáit Gillespie (2-4), Lauren Foy; Gillian Dufficy (0-2), Caoimhe Devine (1-0), Anna Rafferty. Subs: Ciara Larkin, Elaine Dorrian, Fiona McGonigle, Emer O'Brien, Megan Murphy, Eimear McDevitt. On Sunday morning the Division 3 ladies made it double joy as they got the better of MacCumhaill's in Father Tierney Park. There was a steady breeze coming in from the sea and the hosts had it at their backs for the first half. They won a free seven minutes in which Cadhla Dolan slipped over to give her side a lead they would hold to the end. The game was into the second quarter before the next score arrived, this one another silky effort from Dolan. A couple of minutes later she had her hattrick with another free. Ten minutes from the break the Shamettes raised the green flag for the first time. MacCumhaill's just couldn't clear their lines and Caitlyn Gallagher finally stepped up to slam to the net. That sparked the visitors to life and they hit a quick 1-1, but a point from Cadhla Dolan helped steady the Ballyshannon ship. MacCumhaill's were in a purple patch though and two more points followed as half time beckoned. Just before the interval however, Aodh Ruadh raided for a big score. The ball was dropped into the square and Amanda Mahon nipped in to flick to the net to leave it at 2-4 to 1-3 at the turn-around. Aodh Ruadh had a big task in front of them in the second half as they turned to face the elements in the second half, but they got off to a great start with Cadhla Dolan sending over a super point. Three minutes later Terri Gallagher added a goal which was quickly followed by a deserved score for Caoimhe Devine. The Ballybofey girls rallied with a couple of points, but their cause was fatally holed when Ciara Larkin struck for two goals in the space of five minutes midway through the half. The visitors did add three further points over the remaining 15 minutes, but these were cancelled out by Larkin's hattrick goal. It finished Aodh Ruadh 6-8 MacCumhaill's 2-7 to draw the curtain down on the Ballyshannon girls league in style and set them up well for a championship tilt. It was a great team performance from every single one of the 19 players who lined out and bodes well for the coming tests. Hannah Doherty and Shauna Dolan were really solid in the back line, with Fiona McGonigle keeping the ball flowing through the middle third. Up front Caitlyn Gallagher did really well from open play as well as taking an important goal, while it was great to see Dearbhla O'Moore back making some telling contributions. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Katie McGowan; Hannah Doherty, Shauna Dolan, Megan Murphy; Kyra McNulty, Eimear McDevitt, Aoife Bromley; Fiona McGonigle, Ciara Larkin (3-0); Caoimhe Devine (0-1), Caitlyn Gallagher (1-0), Katie Gallagher, Amanda Mahon (1-0), Cadhla Dolan (0-6). Subs: Dearbhla O'Moore, Anna Rafferty, Terri Gallagher (1-0), Aodhbha O'Donnell, Sophia Mulligan, Laoise Foy. Head along to aodhruadh.org where we have a great gallery of pictures.
Good luck to the minors who will get their season under way in Father Tierney Park this Tuesday at 7pm against Killybegs.
The Aodh Ruadh under 15 girls were in Féile action in Tyrone over the course of Saturday. Their opening games was against Breffni representatives, Kingscourt Stars. The Cavan girls were a big strong physical outfit and with not much in the contest goals were big scores. Aodh Ruadh got one following great work between Laoise Foy and Rachel Gillespie, but Kingscourt bagged one of their own and it finished honours even at 1-3 apiece. The next game was against Irvinestown and proved a real rollercoaster of a game. The Fermanagh ladies came out all guns blazing and scampered off into a six point lead. The Shamettes dug deep though and a superb goal in the dying moments by Laoise Foy gave her side a memorable two point win as it finished 3-5 to 3-3. The last game of the group stages was a novel pairing with the Ernesiders facing off against a Scotland side with a pick of 5.5 million. Aodh Ruadh made light of the odds and with Caitlin McGuinness outstanding in defence, Faye Gillespie, Cadhla Gillespie, Laoise Foy and Rachel Gillespie all raised green flags as Ballyshannon clinched an 8-8 to 0-0 victory. Aodh Ruadh now faced Watty Graham's Glen Maghera in the Cup semi-final. This one was sizing up for a great battle with Aodh Ruadh answering an early Glen goal with one of their own. However, at that point a clash saw Rachel Gillespie sustaining a broken arm. Obviously that shock had a major impact on the Ballyshannon girls and by the break they were well in arrears. However they did respond well to win the second half, but it wasn't enough to reel in the Derry girls. That brought down the curtain down on a great day of football action for the girls. We extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery to Rachel Gillespie, one of the hardiest warriors on the squad. Many thanks to the management, parents guardians and supporters who were behind the team all the way.
The under 14s will have a challenge in Father Tierney Park this Wednesday against Grange at 6.30pm.
Under 6 training will halt for the month of July to accommodate summer holidays. Keep an eye on notes for details on when training is due to commence again.

Aodh Ruadh sank to a gutting 2-8 to 0-10 away defeat against Malin on Sunday afternoon. It had all started so well for the Ernesiders with Cookie O'Halloran raiding forward and fisting over an early point. However, the hosts responded emphatically with a quick goal. That was to be their only score of the half, and Aodh Ruadh worked hard to keep the score board ticking over. They started with a trademark Nathan Boyle effort off the outside of the boot. Eamonn McGrath tagged on another point before Jack Gallagher landed two frees to leave it 1-0 to 0-5 as the sides switched ends. Gallagher started the second half scoring with another dead ball effort. However Malin took charge from there and came back with a run of six unanswered points. Ballyshannon finally shook themselves out of their malaise with another placed ball from Jack Gallagher, which was quickly followed by a fisted score from Senan Rooney to put a point between the sides. Malin has the momentum though and 1-1 as the clock neared the 60 minute mark left Aodh Ruadh with a mountain to climb. Jack Gallagher did add another free, but Malin soon cancelled that out with a point of their own and held on to secure an important victory. The one light spot for Aodh Ruadh in those closing stages was the long awaited return of Shane Delahunty from injury to divide the posts with a late score. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Aaron Cullen, Calum O’Halloran, Conor Patton, Jason Granaghan, Michael McKenna, Darren Drummond, Niall Murray, Cian Dolan, Eamonn McGrath (0-1), Diarmaid McInerney, Nathan Boyle (0-1), Senan Rooney (0-1), Eddie Lynch, Jack Gallagher (0-5, 4f, 1 45), Darragh Flood Dolan. Subs: Shane Delahunty (0-1) for Nathan Boyle, Johnny Gethins for Darragh Dolan 55 minutes. The reserve game didn't go ahead on Sunday.
The upshot of Sunday's defeat in Malin is that Aodh Ruadh now go into the final round of games needing a win to ensure Division 1 survival. That sets it up for a massive local derby against our Seaside friends over Finner hill. Obviously, we want as big a crowd as possible to get behind the boys in this crucial game. The action gets under way in Bundoran's Gaelic Park at 1.30pm. Best of luck to team and management for this one.
The minors got their all-county league campaign off to a great start with a 6-11 to 4-7 win over a lively Letterkenny Gaels outfit in Father Tierney Park on Monday evening. The hosts got off to a great start when Garvey Meade wrong-footed the Gaels keeper to slot a lot shot to the net. Letterkenny steadied themselves though and hit 1-2 from fifth to the ninth minute to move into the lead. It was to prove short lived though as a surging run from James Monaghan ended with him slipping off for Callum Dorrian to hit the onion bag. Seven minutes later the Gaels levelled the game with a magnificent 45. James Monaghan nudged the Ernesiders back in front, but a superb long range effort from Letterkenny again made it all square. Aodh Ruadh reclaimed the lead in the 20th minute when a shot from Eoghan Cassidy dropped short and Callum Dorrian gathered, turned on a sixpence and slashed to the roof of the net. From there to the break it was all Ballyshannon with Barry Campbell (2), MJ Ward, Garvey Meade and Eoghan Cassidy all raising white flags to make it 4-6 at Marc Brown's short whistle. The Gaels got a stern talking to at half-time and although an MJ Ward stretched his side's margin to 14 points, Letterkenny moved into their best phase of the game. They scored 3-3 over the course of the third quarter to propel themselves right back into this contest. Aodh Ruadh only had points from Eoghan Cassidy and Barry Ward in response as their lead was cut to just four points. The homesters needed to stem the tide and duly did so thanks to some intelligent play from James Ward who palmed a pass back down into the path of Eoghan Cassidy and he rattled the net. That took the wind out of the Letterkenny challenge and points from Cassidy, Garvey Meade and Barry Campbell gilded the final scoreline. Caolan McCauley made a couple of outstanding saves in what was an unaccustomed position for him. Garreth Brennan and James Ward were the fulcrum of the defence while James Monaghan and Garvey Meade were very impressive in the middle third. Barry Campbell made a great contribution in this game, as did Oran Gillespie, with Eoghan Cassidy just a cut above in the forward line. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Caolan McCauley; Liam Doogan, Tommy Clyne, Morgan McNamee; Eoghan Blake Gallagher, Garreth Brennan, James Ward; James Monaghan (0-1), Garvey Meade (1-3); Oran Gillespie, Barry Campbell (0-3), Dara McGloin; MJ Ward (1-1), Eoghan Cassidy (2-3), Callum Dorrian (2-0). Subs Tyler Connolly, Fionn Hartin, Ted O'Donnell.

Killybegs will be the visitors to Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh this coming Saturday for a 12pm throw-in. Training continues on Tuesday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille from 7pm to 8pm.

Ladies
Aodh Ruadh brought the curtain down on their Division 1 programme with a hard-earned win over Ardara. Aodh Ruadh started strongly with an early Cáit Gillespie point followed by two from Orla Keon. Ardara responded well though and had the game squared up by the 11th minute. Orla Keon edged her side back in front and as the game moved into the second quarter the lethal Caoimhe Devine turned her defender inside out to gather the ball and rifle to the net. Cáit Gillespie followed up with three more points before Devine raised her first white flag of the game. The visitors did come back with two points, but another Gillespie points left the Shamettes leading by 1-9 to 0-5 at the interval. The scoring pace ebbed a little in the second half, but Aodh Ruadh continued to control proceedings. Ardara started the half with a goal, but the Ernesiders responded well with Katie McGowan coming up to curl over a lovely point. Ardara came back with a free, but again another of Aodh Ruadh's young stars, Andrea Moore came through and slipped over a classy effort. Terri Gallagher then worked a clever one two with Aoibhinn McGarrigle from a free before tapping over. McGarrigle then stepped up herself to split the posts with a deserved score. Ardara kept battling though and a brace of frees left five between the sides. Aodh Ruadh were finishing strong though, and Ciara Larkin tore through the Ardara defence before smashing home an unstoppable shot to all but settle the tie. Cáit Gillespie added a goal two minutes into added time to put the cherry on top of a good team display. Roisín McGloin and Niamh Barrett were outstanding in defence. In the middle of the field Orla Keon had one of her best games of the season, while Andrea Moore covered every blade of grass over the 60 minutes. Terri Gallagher was in fine form linking the attack together, while Cáit Gillespie and Caoimhe Devine took a number of important scores. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Roisin Maguire; Fiona McGonigle, Roisin McGloin, Niamh Barrett; Katie McGowan (0-1), Anna Rafferty, Rebecca McLoughlin; Orla Keon (0-3), Anna Lisa Rabbitte; Andrea Moore (0-1), Cáit Gillespie (1-5), Terri Gallagher (0-1); Caoimhe Devine (1-1), Ciara Larkin (1-0), Aoibhinn McGarrigle (0-1). Subs: Laoise Foy, Emily McNamee, Megan Murphy, Aodhbha O'Donnell, Niamh Hoey. Head along to aodhruadh.org where we have a great gallery of pictures from the game. The result sees Aodh Ruadh finish second in the Division 1 league table and secure a home semi-final against Naomh Conaill. That last four match takes place this Saturday in Father Tierney Park at 7.30pm. Our under 12s will be playing at half-time in this massive game for our senior ladies. Please come up and roar our girls on as they bid for a county final berth.
Good luck to the minors who will get their season up and running in Father Tierney Park this Tuesday at 7pm against Naomh Columba.
Hurling
Aodh Ruadh returned to action on Friday evening when they entertained MacCumhaill's in Father Tierney Park. The Ballybofey side came into the game as favourites, but Ballyshannon rose to the challenge and delivered one of their best displays of the season to date. Aodh Ruadh faced a steady breeze in the first half and Ballybofey made full use of it to take a 3-12 to 0-4 lead in at the break. Senan Rooney and Cian McKenna were the men on the mark for Aodh Ruadh in the opening period. The Ernesiders came out with the bit between their teeth in the second half and went blow for blow with MacCumhaill's. Aaron Neilan and Senan Rooney both raised green flags in what was an entertaining half of hurling. It finished Aodh Ruadh 2-10 MacCumhaill's 5-19. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Tommy Clyne; Cillian Bradshaw, Adam Rami, Aaron Neilan (1-0); Damian Weber, Ciaran Rami, Caelan Drummond; Cian McKenna, Ryan Ayres; Martin Larkin, Aaron Cullen, Tommy Winters; Cian McDonald, Senan Rooney (1-8), Kyle McNulty (0-1). We have a gallery of shots from the game live on aodhruadh.org now. The performance bodes well ahead of this Friday when Aodh Ruadh are due to go into intermediate championship action. Keep an eye on the club's social media output for fixture details. The minors recorded a fine win over Saint Eunan's in a very blustery and cold Father Tierney Park last Thursday. It was a tight affair throughout with Aodh Ruadh leading much of the time. Saint Eunan's fought back in the second half and almost looked like overcoming the boys in green until a late goal secured the win for the home team. Congratulations to all the team and mentors; Daithi and Danny Breen. There's a great album of shots from the game at aodhruadh.org. Training will continue this week in preparation for the next game against Setanta on Thursday, 18th July.
Our under 16s will welcome Buncrana to Father Tierney this Thursday, 11th July in the sixth round of the all-county league. The team will be aiming to continue their unbeaten run. Throw-in will be at 7.30pm and strong home support would be great to see. Best of luck to Paul, Mark and all the lads.
The Juvenile Hurling committee would like to pass on the highest of congratulations to our two under 16 aces, Joseph Gibbions and Corey Sheridan, on their selection to the 2024 under 16 Ulster panel. These two lads have thoroughly earned this achievement and continue to be the type of player any club aspires to have. Their schedule now will include further training this week in Belfast followed by a match in Monaghan against a strong Dublin panel. The very best of luck to both players, we hope you really enjoy the experience.
Our under 12s were in action against MacCumhaill's last Thursday for an entertaining match. We have pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org. The squad will make the long journey to Inishowen to meet Carndonagh on Thursday evening as they continue their league journey. Best of luck and safe travels to Patrick, Rob and all the team.
The dust has just about settled on our annual trip to Croke Park for the All-Ireland senior hurling championship semi-final and boy, what a semi-final it proved to be! A record breaking sell out, we were so privileged to see Cork overcome the might of Limerick and put a stop to their recent domination. There were 58 on the trip and a great day's craic was had by all, with impeccable behaviour from all our club members throughout the day. Seated behind the goals in the Davin Stand, we came away with at least seven match sliotars and a few stories to go with them! Many thanks to Kevin Byrne coaches and our driver, double all star winner Liam Currams, for getting us there and back safely and to Eoghan Ruadh O'Neill for providing us all with some very welcome drinks and snacks for the return journey. Looking forward to next year already!

Well done Lisa!
Congratulations to our own Lisa McTernan on her appointment as County Administrator. It's a vital and demanding job with a lot of responsibility, but we know Lisa will take it all in her stride. She has accrued many years of experience at both club and divisional level, which will no doubt serve her well in her new role. It's a great honour for the club and the town to have our administrative talent recognised at this high level. We wish Lisa all the very best in the coming years.Win All-Ireland final tickets

It was bad day at the office for Aodh Ruadh on Saturday as they sank to a 1-12 to 1-8 defeat against Bundoran in Gaelic Park. The opening exchanges had been even enough with points from Eddie Lynch and Darren Drummond making it two apiece after ten minutes. Bundoran took charge then though, with a run of five points only answered by a Diarmaid McInerney free, as the sides turned around with the hosts leading 0-7 to 0-3. After the resumption Johnny Gethins and Eddie Lynch points were repaid in kind by Bundoran before Aodh Ruadh's cause took a major blow with Kyle McNulty hitting the net. Cian Rooney answered with a free, but Bundoran replied with two points as the game slipped from Aodh Ruadh's grasp. A goal and point from Nathan Boyle and an Aidan Sweeny point were added in the closing stages, but it was too little too late as Bundoran secured their first win of the league programme. The result sees Aodh Ruadh having to play Termon to secure their place in Division 1 in 2025. The game will take place this Sunday with venue and time to be confirmed. Keep an eye on social media for fixture details over the course of the week. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Aaron Cullen; Aidan Sweeny (0-1), Conor Patton, Jason Granaghan; Michael McKenna, Darren Drummond (0-1), Niall Murray; Cian Dolan, Eamonn McGrath; Diarmaid McInerney (0-1f), David Dolan, Johnny Gethins (0-1); Eddie Lynch (0-2), Jack Gallagher, Darragh Dolan. Subs: Shane Delahunty for Niall Murray 24 minutes, Eoghan Kelly for Darragh Flood Dolan 37 minutes, Nathan Boyle (1-1) for Diarmaid McInerney 37 minutes, Cian Rooney (0-1f) for David Dolan 38 minutes, David Dolan for Shane Delahunty 46 minutes. The next competitive action for our minors is scheduled for Monday, 29th July, away against Glenfin.
The under 16s are training away in preparation for their next fixture, which is due to be on Monday, 22nd July against Termon.
Under 14 training continues this Thursday from 6pm to 7pm.
Many thanks to Jonny Clemmett from AJ’s Filling Station who sponsored a new set of jerseys for our under 12 boys footballers.
The under 10s game against Killybegs on Saturday morning was cancelled as Killybegs were unable to field. Instead our panel of 28 boys played two very enjoyable internal games. Training continues on Tuesday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille from 7pm to 8pm and on Saturday morning from 10am to 11am at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.
Our under 8s are busy preparing for another blitz, this time down in Mountcharles on Saturday coming. Training continues at the usual time of 7pm on Friday.
Ladies
Aodh Ruadh booked their place in the division 1 decider with a dominant display against Naomh Conaill in Father Tierney Park on Saturday evening. They started in whirlwind fashion with a well taken Gillian Dufficy goal and from there to the half-time whistle the Glenties girls had practically no answer. Further points from Dufficy, Aoibhinn McGarrigle, Lauren Foy were followed by a goal when a Sara Gallagher turn over was worked slickly up to pitch to Terri Gallagher who despatched a clinical shot past the Blues net minder. Further points followed for Gillian Dufficy, Cáit Gillespie and Caoimhe Keon, and with Naomh Conaill hitting a couple of late points it was 2-11 to 0-2 in favour of the Ernesiders as the sides changed ends. There had been a lot of excellent defensive work in the first half, with Niamh Barrett in particular making some telling interventions. That had to continue into the second half as Naomh Conaill battled hard to take the game to the homesters. They started brightly with an early point, but Lauren Foy put Cáit Gillespie through for a goal and that was followed by an Andrea Moore point to stretch the margin once more. Naomh Conaill did come back with 2-2, but Ballyshannon were again able to respond, with Gillian Dufficy doing great work to send Sara Gallagher through on goal, before then firing over a point herself. Glenties finished the game with 1-1, but an Orla Keon goal ensured that Aodh Ruadh finished the game with comfortable margin in hand. After a brilliant 60 minutes of football from the Ballyshannon girls it finished Aodh Ruadh 5-13 Naomh Conaill 2-6, a result which sees Aodh Ruadh face Termon in the final in two weeks time. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Roisin Maguire, Niamh Barrett, Roisin McGloin, Katie McGowan; Sara Gallagher (1-0), Anna Rafferty, Aoibhinn McGarrigle (0-1); Orla Keon (1-0), Annalisa Rabbitte; Andrea Moore (0-1), Cáit Gillespie (1-2), Lauren Foy (0-1); Gillian Dufficy (1-7), Terri Gallagher (1-0), Caoimhe Keon (0-1). Subs: Síofra Hughes, Grainne Maguire, Caoimhe Devine, Fiona McGonigle, Cadhla Dolan, Ciara Larkin, Eva McNamara, Rebecca McLoughlin. We have a great gallery of pictures from the game, and the under 12 girls half-time game live now on aodhruadh.org.The ladies were delighted to welcome Niamh Ní Mhurchú and David O’Malley, Joint Managing Partners at Callan Tansey Solicitors LLP to Father Tierney Park last week. Callan Tansey Solicitors have kindly sponsored the new jerseys for the senior ladies teams this year. We hope the jerseys bring the team good luck heading into the Division 1 final in two weeks. There is no doubt that the jerseys will get plenty of use by our two ladies teams in the senior and junior championship campaigns commencing in August. Thanks again to Niamh and David for their generous support.
Our minors made their long awaited league bow last Tuesday when Naomh Columba were the guests in Father Tierney Park. The long trip clearly had no ill-effects on the Glen girls as they started the game with a flurry of 1-1. It took a composed score from Andrea Moore to get the Ernesiders off the mark, and that was followed three minutes by a Lauren Foy goal. Naomh Columba came storming back with another 1-1, but once again the Shamettes responded in kind, Ciara Larkin showing off her blistering pace and netting before Cadhla Dolan split the posts. Larkin then nudged Ballyshannon in front for the first time, but Glen levelled it up again a minute later. As the game moved into the second quarter Aodh Ruadh started to turn the screw with two fine points from Aoife Travers, which were followed by a goal by attacking assassin Caitlyn Gallagher. Gallagher added a point in the 22nd minute, with Niamh Duffy flighting over a delightful effort two minutes from the break. Glencolumcille had managed a brace of points in replay so at half-time it was Aodh Ruadh 3-7 Naomh Columba 2-5 with all to play for in the second half. The opening exchanges of the second half were tit for tat. Glen got the first score of the half, but again Aoife Travers came up with the goods under pressure. Another point for the visitors was cancelled out by Ciara Larkin, with Emily McNamee then firing over from what looked like an impossible angle. After that Aodh Ruadh had Tara Gallagher to thank for a fantastic save which kept her side in the ascendant. Up the other end Andrea Moore bravely rode the challenges before hitting the net. The visitors came back with a goal, but two minutes later Caitlyn Gallagher struck again with another spectacular three pointer 41 minutes in which tipped the tie in Aodh Ruadh's favour as the clock started to run down. The homesters had further points from Andrea Moore and Ciara Larkin and goals from Faye Gillespie as Aodh Ruadh finished strongly to run out winners on a scoreline of 7-13 to 4-9. A brilliant team performance from the Ballyshannon girls. Tara Gallagher was superb between the posts, both with her shot-stopping and her kick outs. The entire defensive section was absolutely outstanding, while in the middle third Andrea Moore, Aoife Travers and Dáirín Sweeny really left everything on the pitch. Up front there was great dynamism and economy in an attack where every member got on the score sheet. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Tara Gallagher; Jessica O'Mahoney, Katie McGowan, Aodhbha O'Donnell; Laoise Foy, Lauren Foy (1-0), Megan Murphy; Andrea Moore (1-2), Dáirín Sweeny; Caitlyn Gallagher (2-1), Ciara Larkin (1-4), Emily McNamee (0-1), Niamh Duffy (0-1), Cadhla Dolan (0-1), Aoife Travers (0-3). Subs: Faye Gillespie (2-0), Ellen Monaghan, Caitlin McGuinness, Hannah McGuinness, Orlaith Gallagher, Rebecca Downey, Molly Begley, Cadhla Gillespie, Emma O'Donnell, Hannah Downey, Lily O'Donnell, Sara Begley, Sophia Mulligan. Head along to aodhruadh.org where we have a great gallery of pictures from the game. Next up for the minors is a trip to take on Glenfin this Thursday at 7.30pm.
The under 14s lost 5-8 to 4-4 last Wednesday against Four Masters. It was a terrible evening for football and the Ballyshannon girls went in seven points down at half time. However, they came out to deliver a mighty third quarter to bring it back to two points. At this point the Shamettes had the momentum and a win was on the cards. Unfortunately, the weather continued to be a factor and contributed to a couple of scrappy goals which settled the tie in Four Masters favour. The squad were back in action on Sunday against Ardara. The girls started well and played some lovely football to lead by seven points with 20 minutes left to play. However, the Pearse Park girls came storming back into the game and managed prevail by three points at the final whistle. The under 14s will have two games again this week. Killybegs are the guests in Father Tierney Park this Tuesday at 7pm, then the final game of the league, again at home, takes place on Sunday against Four Masters at 6pm.
Huge congratulations to our under 12 girls who have been selected to play in the half-time exhibition games at Croke Park on LGFA All-Ireland Finals Day on Sunday 4th August. A special word of thanks to Maura Gallagher for all her hard work in helping bring this wonderful opportunity about.

The minors will be hoping to continue their winning streak this week when they welcome Setanta to Father Tierney Park. Throw in is at 7.30pm and it would be great to see lots of local support. Best of luck to Daithi, Danny and all the panel.Congratulations to the under 16s on maintaining their unbeaten run in the league with a comprehensive win over Buncrana last week. Training will continue on Tuesday and Thursday this week.
Massive congratulations to our two Ulster warriors, Corey Sheridan and Joseph Gibbions, who joined the 2024 under 16 Ulster team last week. The lads enjoyed a gruelling training session in Belfast on Tuesday followed by two matches against the Dublin squad on Thursday in Monaghan. Both boys played out of their skins and collectively scored 1-14, proving that they thoroughly deserved their Ulster selection. Well done to both boys and to their mentors Mark Sheerin and Paul Sheridan for helping them in this achievement.
The under 12 hurlers clocked up a mighty win on the road last week. They travelled to Carndonagh and were delighted to come away with a tight one-point win over the home team. It's hard to know what to say as the club reflects on a harrowing loss in Sunday's relegation / promotion play-off game. It's a very very difficult defeat to absorb on a number of levels, but at this stage we can only dust ourselves down and turn our sights on the senior championship. The pattern for the game in Glenties was set early, with Termon reeling off three unanswered points. David Dolan hoisted over for Aodh Ruadh's first score after good work by Senan Rooney in the 12th minute, but Termon got an instant response to make it 0-4 to 0-1. Termon's capacity to quickly reply to Aodh Ruadh scores would be a pronounced pattern in this game. Jack Gallagher then fisted over after Aodh Ruadh failed to find the net on two occasions, but Termon again came back with a quick point in reply. The Ballyshannon lads were working hard though and were rewarded with a 17th minute goal. A ball in from Nathan Boyle was fetched well by David Drummond who fed off to David Dolan who battered to the back of the net. Termon did edge back in front with a good point from out on the wing, but this time it was the Ernesiders with the instant reply, a booming shot from David Dolan. Diarmaid McInerney then floated over a beauty of a free to give his side the lead for the first time. That was followed by an excellent long range free from Jack Gallagher. With three minutes to the break Aodh Ruadh looked to be in charge, but Termon quickly turned things around with 1-3 in the space of four minutes to lead by 1-8 to 1-5 at the turnaround. Aodh Ruadh needed a big start to the second half, but it never materialised and in truth Ballyshannon never troubled Termon at all in this period. In a low scoring third quarter the Burn Road men hit two points before Philip Patton flighted over his side's sole score in the moving period. Jack Gallagher registered two points from dead balls as the game moved into the final 15 minutes to trim the deficit back to a goal. Termon were able to push clear again all to easily though, going the length of the pitch to find the net in the 52nd minute. Nathan Boyle did fire over a reply, but Termon quickly cancelled that out with interest and by now the clock was Aodh Ruadh's enemy. David Dolan landed a free a minute from time, but, frustratingly, Termon were again able to almost immediately hit an answering point. As Aodh Ruadh desperately chased goals in the dying moments a Niall Murray shot was deflected over the bar. That was to prove Ballyshannon's last scoring contribution to Division 1 football in 2024, as Marc Brown's whistle brought a to close the club's brief three-year tenure in Division 1. A precipitous and deeply demoralising fall after two seasons which had seen the club narrowly miss out on a league final place. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Aaron Cullen; Ryan Keenaghan, Conor Patton, Eoghan Kelly; Michael McKenna, Eddie Lynch, Johnny Gethins; Cian Dolan, Eamonn McGrath; Diarmaid McInerney (0-1f), Darren Drummond, Senan Rooney; Jack Gallagher (0-4, 2f), David Dolan (1-3, 1f), Nathan Boyle (0-1). Subs: Niall Murray (0-1) for Senan Rooney half-time, Philip Patton (0-1) for Diarmaid McInerney 36 minutes, Matt Gillespie for Cian Dolan 39 minutes, Darragh Flood Dolan for Michael McKenna 45 minutes, Donagh McIntyre for Jack Gallagher 56 minutes. The next competitive action for our minors is scheduled for Monday, 29th July, away against Glenfin.
Our under 16 boys took on Saint Naul's last Monday evening in Mountcharles in a rescheduled Southern Board league match. Our lads put in a much improved performance and ran out 4-13 to 2-6 winners. If the senior result against Termon left disappointment, the under 16s made up for that somewhat when they delivered a full-hearted display to come out on top against the Burn Road men in an entertaining league tussle on Monday evening. MJ Ward started the scoring shortly after the throw-in with a free after drawing a foul. Joe Gibbions doubled the lead in the seventh minute with a classy left footed effort from range with Gareth Brennan repeating the dose 30 seconds later. Gibbions then sent over the game's first placed ball score in the ninth minute as Aodh Ruadh moved four points clear. Termon opened their account 12 minutes in, and shortly after they could have been level were it not for an outstanding reaction save from Corey Sheridan. Instead Aodh Ruadh hit the quarter hour mark with a restored four point cushion, MJ Ward sending over after a heavy challenge on Sean O'Neill. Termon responded with a free after 19 minutes and three minutes later were denied a goal only by another point blank stop from Sheridan. The hosts kept the score board ticking over after a foul on Max Roper was clinically converted by MJ Ward. Termon did notch a point from play five minutes from the half-time oranges and followed that up with a fine effort three minutes later. However the last say of the half fittingly went the way of MJ Ward who won his free when through on goal and tapped over to leave it 0-7 to 0-4 at the break. Termon grabbed the first score on the resumption, but that was quickly off-set by a fine solo effort from Sean O'Neill. Termon tagged on another point, but the homesters came back with a magnificent free from Joe Gibbions. He was on the mark from dead ball once more as the clock ticked into the 40th minute. Termon hit their third point of the half three minutes later to cut the hosts lead to two points. Aodh Ruadh needed a response at this point and they got it when Callum Dorrian was alert to the ball as it came back off the post. Dorrian drew the keeper and slipped off for Corey Sheridan to palm past his goal-keeping counterpart to make it 1-10 to 0-8. A fine lofted effort from Finn Doogan was answered by 1-3 on the spin from Termon as the visitors levelled the game in fine fashion with eight minutes left to play. MJ Ward edged his side back in front after Joe Gibbions did really well to win the free, and Ward then followed that up with a fine shot from play. Termon kept up the heat with a point, but Aodh Ruadh responded in great style with a laser-guided kick out from Anthony Duffy won by Finn Doogan who picked out Corey Sheridan. Sheridan then closed in on the posts and made sure of his score. Ballyshannon then won the kick out and Sean O'Neill came bursting through to fist over and make it 1-15 to 1-12 with four minutes left. That was to be the last scoring action as Aodh Ruadh secured a well-deserved, but hard-earned victory. Corey Sheridan excelled at both ends of the field, while the back line of Daithi Sheerin, Fionn Hartin and Aaron McLoone stood up well when tested by their Termon counterparts. Sean O'Neill had an outstanding game in the middle of the park, while Joe Gibbions was the creative fulcrum in the final third. Meanwhile MJ Ward's clinical shooting was arguably the difference between the sides. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows Corey Sheridan (1-1); Aaron McLoone, Daithi Sheerin, Fionn Hartin; Oisin McCadden, Gareth Brennan (0-2, 1f), Eoghan 'Blake' Gallagher; Antoin Duffy, Sean O'Neill (0-2); Joe Gibbions (0-3f), Eoghan Gallagher, Eoghan McCadden; Callum Dorrian, MJ Ward (0-6, 4f), Max Roper. Subs: Anthony Duffy for Max Roper, Finn Doogan (0-1) for Eoghan McCadden, Darragh McCready for Eoghan Gallagher, Ethan Kerrigan for Gareth Brennan (injured), Dara Vaughan, Anton O'Loughlin, Turlough Hughes.

Our hosts provided refreshments for all the players, and Peadar Mogan was on hand to present the players with medals. A big thank you to our hosts for organising such a great day on and off the pitch.
Many thanks to Anthony McGrath who gave a Coach the Coaches session on Saturday. It was an enjoyable and informative workshop on attacking play, which was well attended by our underage coaches.
Ladies
Aodh Ruadh warmed up for their Division 1 league final this weekend with a challenge on Sunday morning against a Four Masters side also preparing for a league decider. The hosts took a one point win in what was a useful work out for both sides. The league final takes place this Sunday at 12.30pm in MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey. Aodh Ruadh will be taking on Termon, and a big showing of Ballyshannon support would be very much appreciated by this hard-working panel of ladies. The minor ladies travelled to Glenfin on Thursday afternoon for their deferred league fixture. Aodh Ruadh had the better of exchanges against a home side who gave their all throughout. The Shamettes hit the ground running with an Aoife Travers point 20 seconds in followed by a goal from Cadhla Dolan 30 seconds later. Ciara Larkin added another goal a couple of minutes afterwards before Glenfin registered their first point of the day on five minutes. Aodh Ruadh piled on the scores for the next 15 minutes with Cadhla Dolan in unstoppable form and Andrea Moore and Emma O'Donnell also finding the mark. The homesters came back with a couple of scores in response, but replies from Emily McNamee, Emma O'Donnell and Ciara Larkin helped Aodh Ruadh hit the break with a 3-14 to 3-1 lead. Aodh Ruadh picked up where they left off with the irrepressible Emma O'Donnell opening the second half scoring and Caitlyn Gallagher pointing before Niamh Duffy slipped a delicious shot to the net. From there to the finish the scores were more evenly shared with Cadhla Dolan, Emily McNamee and Faye Gillespie all on the mark for the visitors. Caitlin McGuinness was very assured in defence, where Sophia Mulligan also put in a determined shirt, while Ellen Monaghan a real dynamo in midfield. In the attack Emma O'Donnell was a powerful outlet with Cadhla Dolan and Ciara Larkin in champagne form. The Aodh Ruadh team was as follows: Tara Gallagher; Jessica O'Mahoney, Katie McGowan, Eimear McDevitt; Caitlin McGuinness, Lauren Foy, Megan Murphy; Andrea Moore, Dáirín Sweeny; Caitlyn Gallagher, Ciara Larkin, Hannah McGuinness; Niamh Duffy, Cadhla Dolan. Subs: Aodhbha O'Donnell, Ellen Monaghan, Emily McNamee, Emma O'Donnell, Faye Gillespie, Laoise Foy, Sophia Mulligan. The minors are entertaining Kilcar in Father Tierney Park this Tuesday at 7pm.

Football
Our senior footballers are preparing for their championship opener against Na Dúnaibh. Father Tierney Park will be the venue on Sunday 11th August with throw-in at 4pm. The reserve game will be the curtain-raiser at 2.30pm.The minors picked up a good win on the road as they defeated a fiery Glenfin outfit on Monday evening. Aodh Ruadh got off to a good start with a Barry Campbell goal on six minutes and went into an early 1-2 to 0-0 lead and never surrendered it through the course of the game. As the sides switched ends Aodh Ruadh lead 1-6 to 0-2. The second half was more keenly contested with 12 points evenly split between the sides in that period as the visitors ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-8. That result makes it two wins on the bounce for the Erneside minors. There was a strong performance from Corey Sheridan in goals, and he was close to scoring a goal himself. Elsewhere there were huge efforts from Dara McGloin, Liam Doogan and Ted O'Donnell who rose to the physical challenges of this game. Barry Campbell (1-3), MJ Ward (0-3), Garvey Meade (0-1) and Oran Gillespie (0-3) all had fine performances in attack. Eoin Cassidy also chipped in two points. A big thanks to u16 Fionn Hartin, Antoin O'Loughlin and Anton Duffy who answered the late call to ensure we had a strong panel traveling to Glenfin. The next competitive action for the minors is on 12th August when they will be taking on Gaeil Fhánada. That a 7.30pm throw-in in Father Tierney Park.

Ladies
It wasn't to be for the Aodh Ruadh ladies as they took on Termon in the Division 1 decider in MacCumhaill Park on Sunday. An early goal for Termon set the tone. Gillian Dufficy did get an answering free, but Termon were in free scoring form and had run up a 4-5 to 0-2 lead five minutes from the break. Ballyshannon mustered a mini-rally before the break when a foul on Andrea Moore as she cut through on goal saw the Termon netminder booked. Gillian Dufficy netted the resultant spot kick and Dufficy pounced on the following kick out to smash another shot to the net. Termon made light of the numerical deficit though and another four points saw them leading 4-9 to 2-2 at the turn around. Eimear McMahon was sprung at half time and she made an instant impact with a point. However from the there to the final whistle it was one way traffic on the score board with Aodh Ruadh only able to add one further McMahon point as Termon continued to pick off scores, albeit at a slower rate than the first half. It finished Termon 5-13 Aodh Ruadh 2-4 on a disappointing day for the Ballyshannon girls.
The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Niamh Hoey; Niamh Barrett, Roisin McGloin, Katie McGowan; Sara Gallagher, Anna Rafferty, Aoibhinn McGarrigle; Anna Lisa Rabbitte, Orla Keon; Andrea Moore, Cait Gillespie, Síofra Hughes; Gillian Dufficy (2-2, 1 pen, 2f), Terri Gallagher, Caoimhe Keon. We have pictures from the game live now on aodhruadh.org.The minor ladies played out a thrilling game against Kilcar last Tuesday, with the result only decided with the last kick of the ball. Aodh Ruadh got off to a flying start with a Niamh Duffy point after 18 seconds followed by a goal for Cadhla Dolan. Ciara Larkin then popped over a point before a well worked one two between Caitlyn Gallagher and Cadhla Dolan saw Dolan net her second goal. Kilcar got their first score seven minutes with a placed ball. Cadhla Dolan got an answering free, but Kilcar came back with 1-1 to trim the lead back to four points. Aodh Ruadh pushed on again with points from Caitlyn Gallagher and Ciara Larkin, and well taken Dáirín Sweeny goal pulling their side clear again. The visitors did get the last two points of the half though as the teams headed for the dressing room with Aodh Ruadh leading 3-5 to 1-5. The second half was to prove a real battle, and Kilcar showed they were up for it by hitting the first score of the half. Aoife Travers came through though and stroked over a lovely shot in reply. Another Kilcar point was cancelled out by a point from Ciara Larkin. At this point Aodh Ruadh lost Megan Murphy on a yellow card and Kilcar were able to capitalise on their player advantage, chalking up 1-5. Crucially though Ballyshannon continued to pick off their scores, with three points from Cadhla Dolan ensuring Aodh Ruadh just had their noses in front when they restored to the full complement. In enthralling finale to the game the sides were going score for score with points from Cadhla Dolan and Ciara Larkin being answered in kind. The game's decisive score came in the dying moments though Aodh Ruadh worked the ball the full length of the pitch in a fluent, flowing move and Niamh Duffy served up a peach of a pass to Cadhla Dolan one on one with the keeper and that was only going to end one way, Dolan placing to the net to a huge cheer from the big support in Father Tierney Park. It finished Aodh Ruadh 4-12 Kilcar 2-15 after a great team performance from the Shamettes. Once again Tara Gallagher was outstanding in goals with a first rate stop on top of her unerring kick outs. The entire defensive unit put in a magnificent shift, while out around the middle Ellen Monaghan deserves a special mention for a tireless display around the centre of the pitch. Up front Cadhla Dolan was simply unmarkable, while Ciara Larkin made a number of telling contributions. The Aodh Ruadh team was as follows. Tara Gallagher; Jessica O'Mahoney, Katie McGowan, Emer McDevitt; Laoise Foy, Lauren Foy, Megan Murphy; Andrea Moore, Dáirín Sweeny; Caitlyn Gallagher, Ciara Larkin, Emily McNamee; Aoife Travers, Cadhla Dolan, Niamh Duffy. Subs: Ellen Monaghan, Faye Gillespie, Aodhbha O'Donnell, Cadhla Gillespie, Caitlin McGuinness, Emma O'Donnell, Molly Begley, Sara Begley, Sophia Mulligan. It was a Saturday evening trip to a windy Eamon Byrne Park for the under 14 girls in their Championship quarter-final against Killybegs. The Ballyshannon girls got on the scoring underway when the ball was kicked in and dropped over the goalkeepers head into the back of the net. The girls got the next point before Killybegs got on the score board with two successive points. Tiah Kane in the half backs had a great game scooping up loose ball and putting in a series of well-timed tackles and turn-overs. Zara Meade made her midfield debut and along with Lexi Roper covered every blade of grass from the full back to the full forward line to ensure that sharp-shooter Faye Gillespie got onto the end of the ball. Killybegs were on the hunt for goals and Erin Gallagher pulled off some brilliant saves. Another point for was registered for Aodh Ruadh before Killybegs turned over the ball and a found the back of the net with a quick one two. From the kick out Tiah carried the ball along and let it onto Rose Finnegan who made an incisive run and let the ball onto Zara Meade. Meade found Niamh McGrath who had come from the half back line to slot the point. The half time score stood at 1-5 to 1-3 in favour of the homesters.
As the second half got underway it was end to end play with the points tally rising for both teams. Leia Roper made some great catches and Bethany McNamee put in a number of important tackles. Tiah Kane took up her new position in the half forward line and was just as impressive, and Faye Gillespie continued to tag on points. Killybegs, however took it up a notch and with some great plays finished out the game with the win, 1-12 to 1-7.
It was a brilliant team display by the Shamettes against strong opposition, and now Aodh Ruadh go on to play Milford in the Shield competition on Bank Holiday Monday. Our under 12 girls hosted Naomh Conaill and Killybegs in Father Tierney Park on Friday evening. One squad faced a Killybegs under 11 team that competed well throughout, but Aodh Ruadh held the upper hand with impressive performances throughout the team, with special mentions for Aoibhinn McGarrigle, Amelia Coyle, Ava McCaffrey and Muireann Gallagher.
In the meantime a strong Naomh Conaill side got off to a very impressive start against our other Aodh Ruadh team, dominating the first 15 minutes. Ella Dorrian moved in to midfield alongside the impressive Tiah Kane and Niamh Patton to kick-start Aodh Ruadh's challenge, and the Ballyshannon girls then finished the half as the stronger side and maintained that position throughout the second half, to impressively see out the game. In a good team performance there were strong performances in defence from Amelia McNulty, Saoirse O'Donnell and Nicole McGrath. Ella Dorrian, Tiah Kane, Ava Garvey and Niamh Patton worked tirelessly in the middle third. While scores were well spread out across the team Leah O'Malley-Malone, Catherine Garvey and Katie McLoughlin worked particularly hard for the team in attack. Thanks to Killybegs and Naomh Conaill for travelling and providing two very competitive contests. Check out aodhruadh.org where we have a great gallery of shots from both the games.

Aodh Ruadh sank to a frustrating defeat to Dungloe / Gaoth Dobhair on Friday evening as they came out on the wrong side of the scoreline with a few important decisions going against them. This was the team's best performance of the year to date. With a good squad available for the trip to O'Donnell Park for this Intermediate Championship opener, Aodh Ruadh were really able to give a good account of what they are about. After a battling first half Ballyshannon trailed 1-8 to 0-10, despite having had the sliotar in the net. Dungloe / Gaoth Dobhair had better luck with having their goals recognised in the second half, and they raised two green flags, as well has hitting five points over the half hour. Aodh Ruadh again had goal shouts disallowed, but continued to battle to the end, the game finishing up Dungloe Gaoth Dobhair 2-13 Aodh Ruadh 0-14.
