Football
Last weekend's ACFL Division 1 results saw Aodh Ruadh sitting at joint top of the table. John McNulty's side do have more games played than a number of the side's below them, but it's worth reflecting on the distance travelled by the club over the past while. From struggling in the lower reaches Division 3 not so many years ago, to battling it out at the top of Division 1 table is some journey. Aodh Ruadh went joint top courtesy of a 0-10 to 0-6 win against Killybegs which might not have had the pundits purring, but at this stage of the season it's a case of building momentum, consistency and putting together results together. The Ernesiders took their time to get into the game at Fintra, with Shane McGrath fisting over to open their account with nearly ten minutes on the clock. After that they found a bit more rhythm though, and points from Diarmaid McInerney (2), Cian Rooney and Nathan Boyle edged the visitors into a slim half-time lead of 0-4 to 0-5. Killybegs hit the first point on the resumption, but from there to the final whistle they were to add only one more point to their tally. In the meantime, Diarmaid McInerney augmented his haul with another three points, while Nathan Boyle slotted another long range free. David Dolan split the posts with the game's last score to seal the verdict in Aodh Ruadh's favour with a four-point cushion. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Callum O'Halloran, Conor Patton, Kyle Murray; Michael McKenna, Colm Kelly, Eddie Lynch; Nathan Boyle (0-2f), Matt Gillespie; Diarmaid McInerney (0-5, 2f), Darren Drummond, Cian Rooney (0-1); Niall Murray, David Dolan (0-1), Shane McGrath (0-1). Sub: Donagh McIntyre for Matt Gillespie (57).

The Senior Development Squad also top their table after two wins over the past week. Aodh Ruadh started their table-topping week with a bit of a slog-fest against Ardara on Tuesday evening. Conditions were horrendous with a lot of unforced errors from both teams, Ballyshannon just about edging the verdict, 0-6 to 0-5. Aodh Ruadh lined out with a something of an improvised set-up, but were still the better team throughout. Unfortunately, they were guilty of forcing the ball at times and missed a host of chances. So, while the hosts were good value for their win, they were relieved to see an Ardara goal chance spurned late on. Best for the Ernesiders on the night was Luke Carr in his first competitive outing for the club. Elsewhere, Dan Warnock and Donagh McIntyre provided a great physical presence at midfield and in full forward and won a lot of ball. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Aaron Cullen; Conor Foy, Luke Carr, Dan Warnock; Ryan Keenaghan, Gary Carty, Mitch McLaughlin; Colm McGloin (0-1), Oisin Kerr; Ryan McKenna, Cathal Kelly (0-1), Darragh Dolan; Damian Weber, Donagh McIntyre (0-2), Mardy McGarrigle (0-2). Subs: Chris Goan for Luke Carr, Tiernan Dolan for Colm McGloin, Diarmuid Dolan for Ryan McKenna, Harry Howarth for Donagh McIntyre, Conall Sweeny for Tiernan Dolan
With Ardara accounted for Aodh Ruadh tackled Killybegs on Saturday. producing a strong second half to pull away from a game Killybegs side and win 3-17 to 0-8. In sweltering conditions, the Ballyshannon men had the better of the opening quarter leading 1-4 to 0-2. Darragh Dolan was in the right place at the right time to poke home the game's opening goal after good work from Colm McGloin. The Fishermen proved plucky opposition though, and managed to keep the score board ticking over with dead ball conversions. The Ernesiders were using the ball well though with Eoin Doherty to the fore of everything good about the Aodh Ruadh attack and with Damian Weber and Phillip Patton in an unforgiving mood from dead ball it looked to be only a matter of time before the Aodh Ruadh lads managed to pull away. As it turned out a strong start to the second half saw a brace of points from Phillip Patton bookended by a rasper from Kerry Ryan into the top corner of the Killybegs net before Chris Goan and Dan Warnock traded points from the half back line. A cameo off the bench from Harry Howarth and Paddy Gillespie yielded 1-3 between the pacey pair and the day was done. Best for Aodh Ruadh were Daniel Warnock who was outstanding at centre back and getting on the score sheet for a trademark point. Eoin Doherty was an able link man in attack and was too much for Killybegs to handle, while Phillip Patton brought his usual quality and was a threat every time he was in possession. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows. Aaron Cullen; Michael Ward, Luke Carr, Ryan Keenaghan; Chris Goan (0-1), Dan Warnock (0-1), Oisin Kerr; Colm McGloin (0-1), Damian Weber (0-3); Cathal Kelly (0-1), Phillip Patton (0-7), Darragh Dolan (1-0); Ryan McKenna, Kerry Ryan (1-0), Eoin Doherty. Subs: Harry Howarth (1-1) for Darragh Dolan, Paddy Gillespie (0-2) for Ryan McKenna, David Roper for Eoin Doherty, Rory Gethins for Kerry Ryan.

This coming Saturday sees Aodh Ruadh hosting Glenfin. The reserve game throws in at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh at 5.30pm, followed by the seniors at 7pm.

The under 15s continued their build up to the championship with a challenge match against Melvin Gaels. It was a good work out with the Ballyshannon lads coming out on top at the end. Bobby Melly went well between the posts and got great cover from Max Roper and Daithi Sheerin in the bank line. Further up the pitch Finn Doogan did well at half forward and Donagh Kelly picked off some nice scores.

The under 13s train Tuesday this week at 5.45pm, and again on Saturday at 3pm, both sessions take place at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. With our large player base, we are entering two teams into competition this year to maximise the amount of playing time the boys will get, so we will compete in both Division 1 and Division 2. The leagues commence Monday 13th June with games generally being played on Monday nights, with one team at home and the other team away.

Our under 11 Green squad travelled to a brilliantly run blitz in Ardara on Bank Holiday Monday, with two of our teams competing. We had great wins against Malin and Kilcar, and our second team made it as far as the plate semi-final. Both teams had a brilliant day out, and many thanks to the Ardara club for inviting us and congratulations on running such a professional annual event. On Wednesday our White squad have an away match against Na Rossa. Players should be at the pitch Na Rossa pitch Between Glenties and Dungloe at 6.30pm for a 7pm throw-in. On Friday our Green squad have a home match against Naomh Mhuire. Players are to be up at 5.45pm for a 6.15pm throw in. We will be asking parents of the Green squad to please supply sandwiches or treats for this fixture, as our visitors put on a huge spread of food after our match with them earlier in the season. We will also ask parents to help serving tea and food in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh on the night after the matches. Further details towards the end of the week. On Saturday both squads will be training from 12pm to 1pm.

The under 9 game against Naomh Mhuire was postponed at the weekend, but the boys played two enjoyable in-house games. Many thanks to the under 10s for providing the opposition. Training continues as normal on Friday evening at Coláiste Colmcille from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.

Hurling
Last Thursday Aodh Ruadh took on Erne Gaels in the Cuchulainn Cup in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. The Ernesiders were dominant right through this contest and came out well on top, 3-20 to 2-10 the final scoreline. It was a different story on Monday evening when Aodh Ruadh took on Setanta in the championship at the Cross. A depleted Ballyshannon squad struggles in the senior championship continued as a rampant home side ran up a tally of 8-36, with Aodh Ruadh only able to muster nine points in reply. This Friday the squad are back in championship action once more, with MacCumhaill's the visitors to Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh for a 7.30pm throw-in.

The under 17s followed up their second win in a row in the Donegal league with a trip to Dungloe last Thursday. The boys were again missing a number of experienced players either through injury or work commitments, but still were strong enough to take an eight point league in the first half. However the hosts kept themselves in the game, and as the match wore on came into it more and more. They eventually forced their way into the lead in the second half and held off a determined Aodh Ruadh effort to win by a point. The boys now take a break from action until after the Leaving Certificate exams conclude.

The under 15 panel continue to train at their usual times. Anyone looking to link up with this team please contact Paul Sheridan on 087-6572157.

Our under 13s were in action at the Centre of Excellence in Convoy last Thursday, taking on Burt in the league semi-final. The Ballyshannon boys took an early lead, going a goal up in the opening exchanges. However, Burt fought their way into the lead with four unanswered points before hitting the net themselves. As the game moved into the second quarter the Erneside defence and midfield held strong under immense pressure from Burt and gradually gained a foothold in the game. A goal followed by a free just before half-time left the game level at the break. The second half was a tense affair, with both defences playing exceptionally well. Our own lads work rate, hooks and blocking were a credit to the players. Goalkeeper Joey Daly pulled off a number of fantastic saves in the second half to keep us in the game. With seven minutes left on the clock, a free to give us a narrow lead, and the first score of the second half. Aodh Ruadh followed this up with another point to edge slightly further in from. With time running out, the Ballyshannon defence had to be alert to keep a determined Burt attack at bay, and the Erne lads finished the game victorious on a scoreline of 2-3 to 1-4. Aodh Ruadh will now contest the Donegal League B Final against Setanta this Thursday. Best of luck to the team and management.

A combination of under 9s and under 11s took part in the under 10 all county blitz in Convoy this weekend. Well done to all the players, who played four games on the day, with mixed results, but all the players enjoyed themselves. Thanks also to the parents for travelling.

Training continues as usual Sunday for our younger age groups, the under 11s, under 9s, under 7s and under 5s. As ever, anyone looking to join up and take part with our underage squads is more than welcome. Contact John Larkin on 086-1076883 for more information.

Ladies
The adult ladies footballers are back in action this Sunday in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh at 10.30am with the Division 2 team will facing Robert Emmet's. After that the Division 2 team will be travelling to Na Dúnaibh on Thursday, 16th June. The Division 3 team are back out on Friday 24th June when they also make a long trip, this time to Glencolumcille. The last game of the league round robin stages then sees the Division 3 ladies tackling MacCumhaill's in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Sunday 26th June.

The under 16 girls season came to an end on Thursday evening in Dungloe where the hosts just had that bit too much about them in the Division 1 county semi-final. Aodh Ruadh were playing up the hill in the first half and were in a promising position as half time beckoned. Andrea Moore had staunched Dungloe's main attacking threat and while the host had a ten-point advantage, that was far from insurmountable playing down the slope. Unfortunately, Dungloe managed to get a somewhat fortuitous goal just on the stroke of half-time and that flipped the game's dynamic. Aodh Ruadh battled hard in the second half, but Dungloe were able to keep picking of scores and prevent the game becoming a real contest. They deservedly progressed to the county final on a scoreline of 4-17 to 1-6. Mollie McMahon was outstanding between the posts for Aodh Ruadh and the full back line of Megan Murphy, Fódhla Sheerin and Katie McGowan were phenomenal. Lauren Foy capped what was an extremely consistent year, with yet another diamond of a performance. Andrea Moore deserves a special word for her incredible display of tenacity and footballing vision. Up front Cádhla Dolan hit the net and clipped a number of fine points. Jodie Meade also raised a white flag while Ciara Larkin was a real danger going forward. The team management thank the players for their hard work and dedication all year, and also their parents and guardians for their unstinting support throughout the season. All under 16s are now encouraged to join with the minor panel as they prepare for their programme of fixtures, which are due to commence next month.

There will be a light training session at 7pm on the Coláiste Cholmcille school pitch on Tuesday evening for the under 14 and under 13 squads. The team will then have a quick meet up next Friday evening at 5.45pm ahead of the first under 14 league game of the season. That will be against Four Masters in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Saturday at 1pm.

The under 13s have a game this Wednesday evening at 7pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh against Saint Naul's. Players should be at the dressing rooms for 6.20pm.

The under 12s girls made the short journey to Donegal Town for another league match against Four Masters. Best for Team One was Lexi Roper at full back who cleared every ball she laid her hands on. Leia Roper also had a great game in the half forward line scoring herself and also letting the ball into Zara Meade who was on fine form at full forward. The girls showed great improvement from the previous week. For Team Two Sophie McGuinness was on fire, scoring most of her side's tally, while Ellie O'Brien made some nice support runs and Dearbhla Gallagher showed a lot of attacking promise. Well done to all the Aodh Ruadh girls for performing so well on what was a very hot summer evening. Training again on Tuesday from 6pm to 7pm with a game against MacCumhaill's on Thursday.

Training continues for our under 8 and under 6 girls this Tuesday at the pitch in Coláiste Cholmcille. The session runs from 5pm to 6pm and all are welcome, bring a friend!

Football
It was tough going at times, but Aodh Ruadh came good at the death to get the win against Glenfin and go level on points at the top of ACFL Division 1. The wintry conditions compounded what was a pretty grim first half of football. Glenfin had the better of it though, Stephen Carr bagging a goal after the Aodh Ruadh defence went AWOL following the award of a forward mark. At the break it was the visitors who lead by 1-3 to 0-1, David Dolan firing over Ballyshannon's lone score. The second half marked a change in approach and intensity from Aodh Ruadh which brought dividends, although they did take time to mature. First Michael McKenna fisted over after a good move from the throw-in before belting over a beast of a point three minutes in. Luke McGlynn and Darren Drummond then exchanged scores before Glenfin rattled off another brace with only a David Dolan point under heavy pressure in reply. Aodh Ruadh took over in the final quarter though and a series of points from Diarmaid McInerney (3), David Dolan and Michael McKenna edged the Ernesiders into the lead on 51 minutes. Glenfin's cause then took what looked like a fatal blow when Mark McGinty was black carded with seven minutes remaining, but they reacted well, with Jason Morrow firing over a leveller. The last few minutes were helter skelter with Aodh Ruadh controlling possession and trying work a winner. The chance eventually came when the ball dropped into Darren Drummond's hand and he connected sweetly with the ball to split the posts and clinch the win for Aodh Ruadh. It was a workmanlike display from John McNulty's charges as they claimed this 0-11 to 1-6 verdict. Michael McKenna was probably the most stylish player on show and two of his three points were real peaches. Gary Carty took a lot of heavy hits, but still managed to make a big contribution around the middle third. Ultimately, the attacking quality of Diarmaid McInerney, David Dolan and Darren Drummond proved the difference between the sides. The game also marked the very welcome return of Philip Patton to the senior colours. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows: Peter Boyle; Callum O'Halloran, Conor Patton, Kyle Murray; Michael McKenna (0-3), Eddie Lynch, Gary Carty; Eamonn McGrath, Darren Drummond (0-3); Diarmaid McInerney (0-3, 1f), Matt Gillespie, Cian Rooney; Niall Murray, David Dolan (0-2), Shane McGrath. Sub: Philip Patton for Gillespie 28 minutes. Check out aodhruadh.org for a gallery of pictures from the game.

The Senior Development Squad encountered a similarly dogged Glenfin side, but on this occasion, they couldn't unpick a resolute visiting side. Much like their senior counterparts, the Development side found the going heavy in the first half, Damian Weber the only man to trouble the score board picking off 1-1 to 0-6 at the interval. The Ernesiders started the second half with a bit more urgency and points from Ryan McKenna and Paddy Gillespie made it a level game early on. Gillespie then kicked Aodh Ruadh into the lead before Glenfin levelled matters again in the 36th minute. The visitors grabbed a further two points to put some daylight between the sides, but a point from Marty McGarrigle left the minimum in it with ten minutes left to play. Another point from Glenfin put two in it again, but a magnificent effort from the left boot of Spanny Goan put just a point in it again and left things tense as the clock started to run down. The next score would prove crucial, and unfortunately for Brian Gillespie's side it went the way of the Glenfin men who took the points on a final scoreline of 0-11 to 1-6. A plucky display by the Erneside lads, but on the day Glenfin proved too tough a nut to crack. Odhran McGarrigle, Oisin Kerr and Ciaran Slevin worked hard in the middle third, while Conal Sweeny was impressive in the back line. Up front Damian Weber did well with Darragh Dolan providing some nice link play. We have a gallery of pictures from the game up on aodhruadh.org.

Our seniors have a bit of a break now ahead of their next league outing against Bundoran on Sunday 3rd July, while the Senior Development Squad will have to wait until Saturday, 9th July for their next outing, which will be against Termon.

The under 15s are planning for the quarter-final of the All-County League on Tuesday 21st June in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh against Letterkenny Gaels. Training continues on Wednesday at 5.30pm.

The under 13s had a close match in Ardara in their league opener. They notched the first score of the day with a well-taken goal from MJ Ward, but Ballyshannon found themselves trailing 1-8 to 1-2 at half-time. The Ernesiders had a brilliant third quarter to claw back the deficit and lead by one. However, the visitors sustained two injuries and these combined with a harsh black card set them back on their heels. Ardara went on to finish strongly to win out 2-14 to 2-9. Congratulations to all the players making their first competitive appearances for the club on the night. The division 2 match was postponed as Aodh Ruadh had a number of players competing in Community Games. Next Monday sees the under 13s out in action again with the Division 1 game against Four masters at 6.15pm, and Division 2 match against Naomh Muire at 7.30pm. Training continues as usual at 5.45pm on Wednesday.

Last Wednesday saw Naomh Muire making the long journey to Ballyshannon to play our under 11 Green squad. 23 players played two matches, and both teams can be very happy with their efforts. Both games were close affairs. Aodh Ruadh started slowly, but grew into the game steadily, and finished the second two quarters very impressively. A massive thanks to the parents who provided food and drinks for our visitors, and all who helped serve and clean up. This Wednesday our White squad have a training and an in-house match from 4.45pm to 5.45pm, while the Green squad have a match against Four Masters at 6.15pm. Players should be at the park for 5.45pm ahead of the game against Donegal town. There will be training for both squads this Saturday from 12pm to 1pm.

The under 9s return to action on Saturday 18th June with a home fixture against Killybegs. Training continues as normal on Friday evening at Coláiste Colmcille from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.

Hurling
Aodh Ruadh had one of their best displays of the year on Friday as they lived with MacCumhaill's for much of the sides' senior championship contest in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. Aodh Ruadh had Senan Rooney back on board for the first game in quite some time and his presence made a major difference to the Ernesiders challenge. Rooney and Aaron Cullen were on the mark with points as Aodh Ruadh took a 0-11 to 0-7 lead in at the break. Unfortunately, that was to be as good as it got, as Ballyshannon were only able to add a Daithi Breen point in the second half. However, it did take MacCumhaill's a while to get on top of Aodh Ruadh and for much of the second half there was only a point between the sides. It was only when Senan Rooney went off injured and Cáelán Drummond exited on a second yellow card that the Ballybofey men were really able to kick on. The final score was Aodh Ruadh 0-12 MacCumhaill’'s 2-15, a very positive result after a succession of gutting defeats for the team. Next up for John Rooney's men is a trip to Letterkenny this Friday to take on Saint Eunan's, throw-in at 7.30pm.

Our under 15s make the trip to Garvaghy this Sunday as they continue their Táin Óg campaign facing up to Middletown of Armagh, throw in at 11.30am. Anyone looking to link up with this team please contact Paul Sheridan on 087-6572157.

Our under 13s were due to take on Setanta on Thursday in the Donegal League B Final, but due to a funeral this fixture has been rescheduled to this Thursday at 8pm in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh.

On Sunday we are playing host to the Táin Óg regional semi-finals and final. We look forward to welcoming our neighbours from Manorhamilton, Saint Joseph's, Ederney, and Carndonagh to Páirc Aodh Ruadh for what promises to be a great day of hurling. The action throws in at 1.30pm and it would be great to have plenty of support for the boys.

Our under 11s continue to train on Sunday mornings at 10.30am. They will have a programme of games starting in July on Thursday evenings, with more details on the team WhatsApp group.

This Sunday we will be hosting Setanta, MacCumhaill's and Four Masters in a blitz at under 8 level. This will be some of our players first game in Aodh Ruadh colours and we hope to have all details on the team WhatsApp group ahead of the big day.

There will be no training for the under 5s this week. As ever, anyone looking to join up and take part with our underage squads is more than welcome. Contact John Larkin on 086-1076883 for more information.

Ladies
With Robert Emmet's conceding their game on Sunday, the adult ladies had a useful challenge against Sligo outfit Shamrock Gaels. Caoimhe Keon returned to action and did really well in the central third. Defensively, Tia McFarland made a very determined contribution and up front Cáit Gillespie was a lively threat. Anna Rafferty and Terri Gallagher both made big impacts on their introduction. This week the Division 2 team will be travelling to Na Dúnaibh on Thursday evening for their last game of the league stages. The Division 3 team are back out on Friday 24th June when they also make a long trip, this time to Glencolumcille. The last game of the Division 3 league round robin stages sees Aodh Ruadh tackling MacCumhaill's in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Sunday 26th June.

Fixtures for the minor league have been announced and are as follows:-
Thursday, 30th June - Aodh Ruadh v Saint Eunan's
Tuesday, 5th July - Ardara v Aodh Ruadh
Tuesday July 19th - Buncrana v Aodh Ruadh
Tuesday July 26th - Naomh Conaill v Aodh Ruadh

Thursday August 25th - Semi-finals
Thursday September 1st - Final

The under 14s got off to a great league start with a win over Four Masters with scoreline of 3-8 to 1-3. The back line was solid with Megan Murphy (vice-captain) holding it all together. Both Lily and Aodhbha O’Donnell were terriers in the defence. The dynamic duo of Emily McNamee and Laoise Foy in midfield were exceptional. Ciara Larkin (captain) and Emma O’Donnell were a tag team in attack, picking off some fantastic goals and points. While Ellen Monaghan came on late in the game, she was definitely the stand out forward and one to watch for the future. All in all, it was a great team effort with 30 girls togged out. Check out aodhruadh.org for a gallery of great pictures from the game. The girls were wearing their new jerseys kindly sponsored by Rossa and Rosemary Danagher of Rossano’s Hair Design. Training this week will be on Thursday at 7.30pm at Coláiste Cholmcille. The team are away to Na Dúnaibh this Saturday, with throw in at 1pm down on the Rosguill peninsula.

The under 13s were in action against Saint Naul's last Thursday with the Shamettes winning by 2-18 to 4-3. Aodh Ruadh 31 had players togged in total with every girl getting game time. Erin Gallagher was fantastic in goals with Caitlin McGuinness doing really well in the defence. Laoise Foy was superb in midfield while up front Aoife Hughes raised the green flag with a lovely goal and Lauren Gallagher stroked over some classy scores. The result sees Aodh Ruadh finishing second in the table and the squad now take a break for a while as the under 14 competition takes precedence. When that has completed the under 13s will have a semi-final to look forward to.

Last Thursday Dungloe made the long trip down to Ballyshannon. Team One had a great game using the wind in the first half to give themselves a good lead. Arwen Killalea, Faye Gillespie and Niamh McGrath all played brilliantly with some lovely passages of play. Team Two had a tough time playing against the wind, but Lucia Mitchell did some strong running, bringing the ball to the forwards and Sophie O'Malley Malone getting on the score board. Training continues on Tuesday from 6pm to 7pm and there will be no training on Thursday this week.

Training continues for our under 8 and under 6 girls this Tuesday at the pitch in Coláiste Cholmcille. The session runs from 5pm to 6pm and all are welcome, bring a friend!

Football
Our seniors have a bit of a break now ahead of their next league outing against Bundoran on Sunday 3rd July, while the Senior Development Squad will have to wait until Saturday, 9th July for their next outing, which will be against Termon. Ahead of that they will be discovering their opening two opponents in the championship in Tuesday evening's draw. Donegal GAA plan to broadcast the draw live on their official Facebook page at 6.30pm with Radio na Gaeltachta also providing live broadcast of proceedings. The format for the draw is as follows. The 16 teams in the Senior Championship will be drawn into two groups. The first eight clubs drawn will be in Group A and the second eight drawn will be in Group B. Each club in Group A will play at home against a Group B Club, randomly drawn, in Round 1. The Round 2 draw will also take place. In Round 2 Group B clubs will be at home and will be randomly drawn against a Group A club, except with the provision that there is not a repeat fixture from Round 1. Rounds 3 and Round 4 draws will take place in August and September, after the Round 2 and Round 3 fixtures, respectively.

The under 15s are currently preparing for the quarter-final of the All-County League on Tuesday 21st June in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh against Letterkenny Gaels. Training continues on Wednesday at 5.30pm.

It was a busy week for our under 13 squad. Our Division 2 team played their postponed round 1 game at Na Rossa on Wednesday evening. The lads put in a really good performance getting 10 hard earned scores on the board, but not enough to finish on the winning side. Both teams took part in the Mick Herron memorial cup in Ardara on Saturday, with both competing really well, but were not involved in the latter stages of their respective competitions unfortunately. The most pleasing part was the honest effort and the amount of game time so many of the lads got, as well as the introduction of some of the under 11s to a higher grade of football. On Monday evening both teams were at home in the league. In Division 1 we ground out a really gritty draw in a compelling game against a much fancied Four Masters team, ending 4-11 each. Without a couple of usual starters, the lads put in their best showing this season and led by four points at the break. Four Masters chipped away before creating a six-point lead as they enjoyed a short numerical advantage. The determination and character by Aodh Ruadh to draw level over the closing stage shows that the boys have much to look forward to this year. Anthony Duffy made a match defining save at the death as Four Masters had the final attack to win the game. Aaron McLoone had a tremendous game at the back along with Marko Branley. Cole Connelly and the McCadden twins moved lots of ball through the middle, whilst captain Eoghan 'Blake' Gallagher and Callum Dorrian had great spells during the game. The Aodh Ruadh scorers were MJ Ward (2-4), Callum Dorrian (1-5), Darragh McCready (1-0), Eoghan McNulty and Oisin McCadden (0-1). The Division 2 team met a much stronger Naomh Mhuire team, but gave a very good account of themselves. The development of some of the players in getting valuable game time is clear to see. Iarla Hartin worked tirelessly whilst the McGrath twins, Kerrigan brothers, and Jack Hassett stood out. The full panel got plenty of game time which will benefit all in the long term. Training as usual on Wednesday and Saturday, with both teams away next Monday, the Division 1 team at Dungloe and the Division 2 team Naomh Columba.

Our under 11 Green squad took on Four Masters last Wednesday evening in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. Our boys put on a great display of grit and determination, and again showed an impressive improvement. The schedule for the following week sees the White squad, entertaining Bundoran at home on Wednesday, 7pm throw-in. Players are to be in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh for 6.30pm. Then on Saturday the Green squad have an away match against Naomh Columba in Glencolumcille. The game throws in at 11am, and players should be in Glen for 10.30am.

The under 9s put in their best performance of the season with three very competitive games against Killybegs on Saturday morning. The improvement in the boys since our first outing against Killybegs was clear to see. There will be no training on Friday this week in lieu of the session with Gareth Thornton on Monday evening. The under 9s and under 7s will travel to Grange this coming Saturday for a blitz. Throw in is at 11.30am. Further details will be posted on the team WhatsApp group.

Hurling
Last Friday's game against Saint Eunan's was postponed. Next up for the senior hurlers is the next round of the senior championship on Friday in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh when Carndonagh will be the opposition, 8pm throw-in.

Well done to Garreth Brennan, Killian McPhelim, Jun Hui Lin and Corey Sheridan who all represented the Donegal hurlers in the Hibernia cup last weekend. All four were pivotal in their team's win, but special mention to Corey Sheridan, who was man of the match, scoring 2-3.

Our under 13s took on Setanta in the Donegal League B Final last Thursday in Páirc Aodh Ruadh. This team have worked exceptionally hard all year, but with a small panel all the players have got plenty of game time. Thursday's game seen the Ernesiders missing two players, William Ryan to injury and Joey Daly for Mum Sarah’s wedding! The rest of the boys didn’t let this faze them, and tore into Setanta from the very first minute. The Crossroads lads fought hard to keep themselves in the game, and whenever Aodh Ruadh looked like they were about to pull away Setanta were able to get key scores. That was particularly the case in the second half, when they scored two quick goals to bring themselves right back in to the game. Cool heads prevailed for Ballyshannon, and the homesters ran out winners on a scoreline of 8-4 to 3-6. Captain for the evening Anton Duffy, accepted the shield on behalf of the team and made a speech thanking the parents for all their support, Setanta for a great game and the coaches for all their work. We have a great gallery of pictures from the final up on aodhruadh.org now.

On Sunday Ballyshannon played host to the Táin Óg under 13 regional semi-finals and final. First for the Aodh Ruadh lads were Ederney in the semi-final. The Fermanagh men got a couple of early scores to settle themselves, and lead throughout the game. Aodh Ruadh had a quiet first half by their own standards, but were still in contention at half-time. The second half performance was much improved, with a higher work rate, plenty of hooking and blocking, and Aodh Ruadh were able to keep the score board ticking over. Ederney were able to freshen up their team, and this helped them see out the game, winning on a final score of 3-6 to 1-3. The other semi-final was a real battle between Carndonagh and Cluainín of Glencar/Manorhamilton. Our Leitrim neighbours proved too strong for the Carn men, winning out on a scoreline of 2-6 to 1-7. Ballyshannon then faced Carndonagh in the third-place game in what was a taster ahead of Friday night’s county final. Another tight battle ensued, and there was only a point in it at half-time. The top pitch in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh proved a claustrophobic environment, and left no space for attacking play and both sets of defenders were able to snuff out any attacking threat. In the end Aodh Ruadh won out on a final score of 2-1 to 0-1. The final was a tense affair, requiring extra-time to separate Ederney and Cluainín. As we approached injury time in extra-time it was still draw match, and it looked like we were going to see our first ever hurling penalty shoot-out in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh, with the sides deadlocked at 2-3 to 0-9. However, the Manor men found their way through the Ederney defence to fire home from close range, to claim victory on a final scoreline of 1-9 to 2-3. Declan Sherlock, the Ulster Hurling Development officer spoke about the quality of the hurling on show, and thanked us for playing host. He presented Cluainín with their winner's plaque. Afterwards it was back to Aras Aoidh Ruaidh for some fabulous hospitality provided by the Aodh Ruadh parents and siblings. We have another great gallery of pictures from the action on aodhruadh.org. This Friday the under 13s take on Carndonagh again, this time in the A Championship final. Best of luck to all the boys who have put in a massive effort this year. Throw-in is at 7pm in the Donegal Centre of Excellence and we'd love to see a big Ballyshannon support there to get behind the boys.

Our under 11s continue to train on Sunday mornings. The team will have a programme of games starting in July on Thursday evenings, with more details to follow on the team WhatsApp group.

On Sunday we hosted Setanta, MacCumhaill's and Four Masters for an under 8 blitz. A number of our players were making their first outings in an Aodh Ruadh Jersey and we had seven games on the go at all times. Aodh Ruadh fielded four teams of 7-a-side with rolling subs. Thanks to the teams for travelling, and thank you to our junior refs, Hannah, Ellen and Shaun McGarrigle, and Cian McDonald. There will be no training for the under 5s this week.

Our under 5s are back at training this week after having had a week off. Training takes place at 11.45am on Sunday morning. . As ever, anyone looking to join up and take part with our underage squads is more than welcome. Contact John Larkin on 086-1076883 for more information.

Ladies
Aodh Ruadh took on Na Dúnaibh last Thursday in their last game of the Division 2 league stages. The Ernesiders never got going after their long trip and sank to their first defeat of the league stages. Eimear McMahon and Elaine Dorrian picked off some nice points, but the game was pretty much one-way traffic. Defensively Megan McGee was excellent, with Fiona McGonigle also proving tigerish in the tackle. Meabh McCloskey worked hard in the middle of the field, but there was just too much work on hand in that sector for the Shamettes to handle. Despite the result the team have secured a home semi-final, and await the conclusion of the round robin stages to discover their opposition in that last four clash. The Division 3 team are back out on this Friday when they make the long trip to Glencolumcille. The last game of the Division 3 league round robin stages sees Aodh Ruadh tackling MacCumhaill's in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Sunday 26th June.

Our under 14 girls got another win under their belts this week, beating Downings 5-6 to 2-5 in the windiest of conditions. A tag team of Katelyn McGroary and Erin Gallagher in nets kept the green flags raised for the hosts to a minimum. There were great defensive displays from Rebecca Downey and Katie McGowan, while Emily Doherty, Aoife Hughes and Molly Begley also put in some great work. Laoise Foy was unstoppable again in midfield. Rachel Gillespie and Ellen Monaghan showed great teamwork making some great passes to Ciara Larkin who scored 3-4. In total 25 girls travelled to the game and all got game time, ensuring our second win of the season. The team's next game is at home to Buncrana. Training continues on Tuesday at 7.30pm on the Coláiste Cholmcille pitch.

Well done to the girls of Creevy National School who captured the county Cumman na mBunscol title with wins over Muff and Lurgybrack in Convoy on Monday afternoon. All the girls play their club football with Aodh Ruadh.

Training continues for our under 8 and under 6 girls this Tuesday at the pitch in Coláiste Cholmcille. The session runs from 5pm to 6pm and all are welcome, bring a friend!

Football
Our seniors return to league action against Bundoran on Sunday at 3pm in Gaelic Park, while the Senior Development Squad will have to wait until Saturday, 9th July for their next outing, which will be against Termon. The championship draw took place last Tuesday and sees Aodh Ruadh meeting Bundoran in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh in what is undoubtedly one of the plum ties of the first round. In round two Aodh Ruadh will be in Pearse Memorial Park to take on Ardara. The draws for rounds three and four will take place in August and September, after the round two and round three fixtures respectively.

Last Tuesday our under 15s took to the field in the Division 2 county quarter-final down three key players, with illness and injury ruling out Oran Gillespie, Sean O'Neill and Joe Gibbions. The team really rose to the occasion though and overcame the tough challenge of Letterkenny Gaels in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. There wasn't much between the teams at half-time, but Ballyshannon had Jun Hui Lin, Garvey Meade, Finn Doogan, Eoghan Gallagher and Rian McCauley really excelling themselves in the middle third. Aodh Ruadh capitalised well on their chances in the second half to run out 7-10 to 2-8 winners and book the place in the last four. That Division 2 league semi-final will take place this Wednesday at 8pm in Tir Chonaill Park, Donegal town with Naomh Bríd providing the opposition. As ever, we want to see a great Ballyshannon support there to get behind the boys and roar them on to the final.

The under 13 footballers had a narrow defeat in Dungloe on Monday evening. There wasn’t much sign of summer as conditions were tough with a strong downfield breeze and plenty of heavy showers. After a slow start Aodh Ruadh took advantage of the wind at their back to hold a one-point lead at the turnaround with nine points scored. The hosts landed an early blow, putting a goal and two points on the board. Aodh Ruadh responded with two points each from Callum Dorrian and MJ Ward (2f), only for Dungloe to strike a second goal. Again, the boys rallied to reel off five unanswered points, MJ again steadily landing three more frees, a good turnover finished by Antoin Duffy and another from Dorrian left the half time score reading 2-2 to 0-9. Dungloe restarted well with two early points to take the lead, but MJ Ward again with two more frees put Aodh Ruadh ahead again by the middle of the half. Unfortunately, though that was the end of the visitors scoring. Dungloe managed to chip away and added two points from play and a 45 to win out by two points at 2-7 to 0-12. Overall, some loose spells of play and two avoidable goals cost Aodh Ruadh this one, but there were plenty of positives to take from the game where we were down three of our usual starters. Anthony Duffy made some fine saves in goal and was confident under many a dangerous high ball. Marko Branley did some great hoovering up at the back, whilst Darragh McCready carried a lot of ball up field against the strong wind. Eoghan Gallagher and Antoin Duffy again put in a big shift in midfield.
The Division 2 game did not take place at Naomh Columba, and we will see about a possible rearranged date. The Division 1 team have a free round next week, with the Division 2 team at home to Killybegs on Monday at 7pm. Training continues as usual at Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh at 5.45 Wednesday and 3pm on Saturday.

Our under 11 green squad made the long journey to Glencolumcille last Saturday morning. They took on Naomh Columba in horrendous conditions for football. The boys showed great character and put in a great performance despite the weather. There are no games this week for either squad, however there will be training on the top pitch of Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Saturday from 12 noon to 1pm.

The under 9 and under 7 game against Grange was postponed at the last minute owing to the inclement weather. Training continues as normal on Friday evening at Coláiste Cholmcille from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.

Hurling
It was another tough day at the office for the senior hurlers with Carndonagh leaving Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh with a resounding 0-7 to 5-14 victory in the back pocket. The conditions were awful with the wet blustery weather making handling something of a lottery. Rory Cullen and Brendan Gillespie hit Ballyshannon's lone points as the Inishowen men romped to a 2-9 to 0-2 half-time lead. The pressure didn't relent much in the second half, but Aodh Ruadh did enjoy slightly more attacking momentum and Danny Breen landed four points from placed ball while Aaron Cullen also fired over a nice shot from play. While Adam Rami was among those who gave his all right through, Aodh Ruadh were just losing too many battles across the pitch and in the end it was a comfortable win for the visitors. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows. Kieran Daly; Peter Horan, Adam Rami, Danny Downey; Adam Clarke, Ryan Keenaghan, Stephen Connolly; Brendan Gillespie (0-1), Ryan Ayres; Danny Breen (0-4f), Martin Larkin, Jason Patterson; Michael Reddan, Aaron Cullen (0-1), Rory Cullen (0-1). Sub Ciaran Kilgannon for Michael Reddan 45 minutes. The senior hurlers are away in their next senior championship assignment, this Friday when they head to Dungloe for a 7.30pm throw-in.

Carndonagh got the better of our minors on Thursday with a strong win over a depleted Aodh Ruadh team rife with injuries. It was a very different picture on Sunday morning when the minors found themselves in action against the might of Saint Eunan's. In what was a thrilling game, with some great individual performances, the lads pulled off a fantastic win. They march on now to the final in Convoy on Thursday evening where they will take on old rivals, Carndonagh, once again. All travelling support for the lads will be most appreciated.

Our under 15s had a break this week, but are busy preparing and training hard for the Táin Óg semi-finals and finals day on Saturday, 9th July.

Our under 13s finished their season with a defeat to Carndonagh in the A county final on Thursday. This team has had a great season, winning a league final and qualifying for their Táin Óg finals weekend. A small panel has meant plenty of game time for each player, and has seen the players' skills develop over the season. On Thursday our lads faced a physically stronger Carndonagh team. It was a game where the breaks just didn’t go our way, and the Carndonagh goalkeeper made a number of outstanding saves to halt our momentum when we working hard to get back in to the game. It just wasn’t to be as the Inishowen side finished 8-7 to 2-2 victors, but the Erneside lads could not be faulted for their effort, fighting right till the final whistle. William Ryan and Eoghan McCadden were the stand-outs for Aodh Ruadh with Antoin Duffy, Jack Gormley and Oisin McCadden playing good sporting roles. Joey Daly pulled off a number of good saves in goals for Aodh Ruadh. At the end of the game, coaches John Larkin and Aiden Begley thanked the players for a very enjoyable year with them, their work rate, commitment and attitude. The Aodh Ruadh team and scorers were as follows. Joey Daly; Alex Kerrigan, Ethan Kerrigan, Harvey Power; William Ryan, Jack Gormley, Eoghan McCadden (0-1f); Conor Dolan (1-1, 1f), Antoin Duffy; Jamie McPhelim, Shaun McGarrigle, Oisin McCadden (1-0). Alistair Chan was unavailable on the night, but contributed well all season. The boys will have the Seamus Grimes / Alan Ryan memorial tournament to look forward to later in the year.

Under 11 training continues on Sunday in preparation for their programme of games which will commence in July.

Our under 7 and under 9 squads will take part in the under 8 all-county blitz this Sunday in the Centre of Excellence in Convoy. All details will be published in the team WhatsApp groups.

The juvenile hurling committee is delighted to announce the return of the 'Trip to Croker' after a two-year sojourn due to the pandemic. Our young hurlers are off to the capital on Sunday to watch, what is bound to be a titanic battle, between Galway and Limerick. All enquiries regarding the trip can be directed to the Juvenile Hurling secretary, Orla Bannon, on 086-8035316.

As ever, anyone looking to join up and take part with our underage squads is more than welcome. Contact John Larkin on 086-1076883 for more information.

Ladies
Aodh Ruadh ladies played out an entertaining encounter with Naomh Columba on Friday evening in Glencolumcille. The hosts got off to the perfect start with a quick goal and a point. However, scores from Eimear McMahon got Aodh Ruadh off the mark and then Cáit Gillespie pointed on the quarter hour mark to level matters. The sides went tit for tat up to half-time, but at the turn-around points from McMahon and Gillespie had helped Aodh Ruadh go in with a 0-9 to 1-5 narrow lead. Naomh Columba came out with a renewed sense of purpose and hit 1-4 with Eimear McMahon registering the Shamettes solitary score in reply. Over the final quarter Aodh Ruadh rallied and points from Cáit Gillespie, Eimear McMahon and Elaine Dorrian helped bring them back into touching distance. Unfortunately, a couple of good goal opportunities were passed up and Naomh Columba were able to see out the game and take the points on a 2-13 to 0-15 scoreline. It was an encouraging performance from the Ballyshannon girls as they played right to the end. Roisin Maguire did well in goals and Shauna Dolan pulled off one incredible stop just before half-time. Fiona McGonigle put down another big marker in defence with a strong display. Meabh McCloskey and Kate Cunningham did a huge amount of work in the middle third. Up front Eimear McMahon took some astonishing points, while Elaine Dorrian and Aoife Bromley both made good contributions on their introduction.
The Division 3 team were out again on Sunday morning to take on MacCumhaill's in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh and were able to finish their league campaign on a high with a 5-9 to 3-7 win. The Erneside girls did it the hard way, falling nine points adrift early in the first half, and were still five points off the pace at the interval. An Eimear McMahon 45 which ended up in the back of the net gave Aodh Ruadh great momentum on the resumption and Cadhla Dolan's ruthless eye for goal helped fire her side into the lead. Once again Megan McGee put in a great shift at full back while Niamh Hughes played really well when introduced at half back. Elsewhere Kate Cunningham and Tara Khan were outstanding in the middle third with Abi Barrett doing some great work up front and captain Amanda Mahon finishing with 1-1 to her credit. The team have a challenge against Derrygonnelly this Sunday in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh at 12 noon. That will be in preparation for the Division 2 league semi-final which takes place on Sunday, 10th July.

The under 14s faced a tough battle in less than favourable conditions against a strong Buncrana team, but emerged victorious on a final scoreline of 5-7 to 5-6. Megan Murphy stole the show in defence, while Lily O’Donnell and Aine Neilan also gave us some fantastic displays in the rearguard. Laoise Foy and Emily McNamee were tight on their markers for the entire game, while up front Katie McGowan was the stand out player winning every ball that came her way. The entire squad of girls really showed that hard work and dedication both at training and games really pays off. There will be training for the under 13 and under 14 squads on Thursday night at 7pm at the Coláiste Cholmcille school pitch. The next game for the under 14s takes place on Saturday 9th July against Saint Eunan's in Letterkenny.

On Saturday our under 10 girls hosted the Trillick under 8s and under 10s in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh. Both teams played two matches. In testing weather conditions our girls played some great football against a very skilful and powerful Trillick team. The games were contested in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Afterwards, everyone convened to the Áras where there were teas, coffee, juice and a great spread of wonderful treats laid out for the players, supporters and coaches. A massive thanks to all the parents who brought food and helped out afterwards. It was great for all to have that normality back again and the Tyrone girls went home very happy with their day out in Ballyshannon. Up next for the girls is a blitz in Kinlough hosted by Melvin Gaels where we will play Bundoran, Manorhamilton, Saint Molaise Gaels and Melvin Gaels. Throw in is at 2pm this Saturday. There will be a barbecue there on the day for everyone.

Training continues for our under 8 and under 6 girls this Tuesday at the pitch in Coláiste Cholmcille. The session runs from 5pm to 6pm and all are welcome, bring a friend!
