Dinner Dance 2025
Only days now until our annual club Dinner Dance on Saturday. As usual the action takes place in Dorrian's Imperial Hotel, and we are all looking forward to what should be a big night of craic and celebration. Thankfully the club had success on a number of fronts in 2024, so we have quite a bit of achievement to mark. Attendees will be greeted with a complimentary glass of fizz on arrival from 6pm, before proceedings formally get under way with the banquet at 7pm sharp. After the fine dining, Master of Ceremonies Sean Perry will take to the rostrum to introduce the presentation of awards. As well as our usual individual presentations we will be saluting our minor four-in-a-row county championship winning teams of 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982 on the night with our under 21 hurling championship shield winners and Junior B Shield winning ladies receiving their medals. In addition, we will be inducting Jim Kane to the Aodh Ruadh Hall of Fame. Jim has been involved in coaching and management of Football Teams at all grades. Jim, notably guided Ballyshannon to the All-Ireland Community Games Boys Football title in 1990 and steered a team to the All-Ireland Féile Finals in 1994. Jim has served in administrative roles at Bord na nÓg and Club Executive levels throughout the years. Jim has always been to the forefront when its helping on match days, colouring the town with bunting and being a great supporter of all teams across all codes. With the gongs given out, the fabulous Rockhill Ramblers will take to the stage to entertain the crowd into the small hours. The Aodh Ruadh senior footballers are running a Super Bowl Box Fundraiser for the upcoming Superbowl LIX clash between Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. As always, boxes sell out fast so get them while you can with €750 in prizes to be won! There are only 100 entries available, so when they're gone they're gone! Boxes are priced €20 each and payments can be made through the Aodh ruadh Klubfunder.com page, or by contacting any of our senior footballers. The prize breakdown is as follows:-

Aodh Ruadh underage training is returning in the coming weeks and we look forward to welcoming back all our players. We especially welcome all new players who are getting involved for the first time. Membership can be paid online, with forms also available at training sessions. There will be a €3 charge for sessions taking place in the halls. All underage players are asked to bring their own ball to training with their name on it. These can be purchased from Ballyshannon Shoe Company. Gus Culkin will be in the halls on the first night of training with balls available for purchase.
The training schedule for teams are as follows:-
Under 6 (2019 and 2020). Training begins this Friday, running from 5pm to 5.45pm in the Mercy Hall at Coláiste Cholmcille. This training slot will move from 6pm to 6.45pm from Friday, 28th February. The managers of this team are Darren Drummond and Gerry McHale. Please text either Darren or Gerry to register your child's interest if he is a new-comer. Or alternatively, simply turn up on the first night.
Under 8 (2017 and 2018). Training begins this Friday 7th February from 6pm to 7pm in the New Hall at Coláiste Cholmcille. John Larkin is taking charge of this squad and you can contact him for further information.
Under 10 (2015 and 2016). Training commences for this squad on Friday 14th February from 7.15pm to 8.15pm in the New Hall at Coláiste Cholmcille.

Congratulations to the Aodh Ruadh Tráth na gCeist team who took third spot at the All-Ireland finals in Páirc an Chrocaígh on Sunday, the team's best performance to date on the All-Ireland stage.We are looking for people to represent Aodh Ruadh in Scór Sinsir this year. Scór aims to promote Irish culture and tradition in areas such as music and drama and we're hoping the club will be represented in as many disciplines as possible. It's open to any club member over the age of 17. The county final is scheduled for the 7th March in Glenfin. We are looking for acts to represent the club in the following categories:-
o Céilí Dancing / Set Dancing
o Solo Singing
o Recitation / Storytelling
o Ballad Group
o Instrumental Group
o Novelty Act

We are now into week two of our Last One Standing competition with almost 200 players signed up for this year's competition. In the first week it was a good start for the punters with only 24 exiting, mainly thanks to Galway's revenge defeat of the All-Ireland champions, Armagh. With the Donegal v Kerry match being postponed, those players are now waiting on the result of this Saturday's clash in Killarney to see if they progressed. In week two we only had a handful of casualties due to the overwhelming majority choosing to favour Monaghan against Westmeath. We have wee break this weekend for most players except those who will await the result of the postponed game between Kerry and Donegal.New Year, New You
Get out and get active this winter. Join us at the fitness trail in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh every Saturday at 11am to walk or run and keep active in a safe and sociable environment this winter. Everyone welcome to come and get active after the festive period. All age groups children and parents, and all levels of fitness. You can come for a walk, or for those that want a push can join our Couch 2 5k programme. We have training programmes for all levels. Refreshments will be available!CPR / AED course
One night, two and half hours of your time that could save someone's life. Aodh Ruadh has organised CPR/AED Irish Heart Foundation courses on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th February, at the modest cost of €10. The unsubsidised cost of this course, which is certified by the HSA and nationally recognised, can be as much as €100. This will also be a refresher course for anyone who did the course last year. There is roughly a 70 percent chance you will be in a situation where a loved one or friend will need life saving CPR/AED in the precious few moments before an emergency ambulance service can arrive. To book, pay through Aodh Ruadh Klubfunder page under general payments and leave a note CPR/AED and then send a screenshot of the payment to Chris Kelly on 086-8813553. We are encouraging at least one coach from each age group to register.
There are also places available on the more comprehensive PHECC First Aid Responders course for coaches in the club. This course will be 18 hours in total over six nights and will cover first aid principles, patient assessment, cardiac CFR, managing common medical emergencies, and injury management. This course is recognised by the HSA for first aid in the work place. This costs €50 and incorporates the CPR/AED module as well. The unsubsidised cost of this course can be as much as €320.Club membership
We ask all club members to make arrangements for their 2025 club registration ahead of the new season. Once again, we are using the official GAA online platform, Foireann, as the primary channel for processing club membership. To obtain or renew membership go online to foireann.ie, and your membership status will be displayed on the dashboard after you login, with the option to register, if you have not yet paid your membership for 2025. Anyone running into problems with Foireann can contact the club Secretary, Louise Larkin, for assistance. Alternatively, membership can also be paid to Gerry Ferguson at Ferguson's Jewellers. All players, without exception, must be signed up club members prior to the commencement of training. Non members are not covered by the GAA's injury insurance scheme and cannot line out for the club. Adult members will receive first priority for the club's allocation of Ulster or All-Ireland final tickets in the event of Donegal contesting these deciders. Well done to Angela Gaye on taking last week's Bingo Jackpot. The new €1,000 winter Snowball rolled over on its first week, with Anne Gallagher taking the €100 house as well as a line. It rolls on for another week in play on 45 numbers! The other house winners were Leanne Patterson, Martin Travers twice as well as a €50 line, Celine McGrath and Brian Monaghan and Gerard Cullen (shared) with Gerard taking another house too, Paul Doherty, Jimmy Monaghan, Gerard Cullen and Jude Rooney. The other €50 line went to Breege Kelly. The other line winners were Bill McGonigle, Florence McMenamin, Karen Gallagher, Ellen Maguire and Mary McGowan (shared), Elaine Ellis, Anne Maguire and Rosemary Roper (Shared), Madeline Gibbions, Eamonn Maguire. Ellen Maguire's luck was in, taking home our Stand Up game at half time. We're back at it again this Tuesday at the Abbey Centre with €2,900 to play for, including the €1,000 Snowball, €500 50/50 Jackpot and €330 Lucky Numbers game. Dinner Dance 2025
We had a great attendance at this year's Aodh Ruadh Dinner Dance with Benny and Mary having to roll out extra tables at Dorrian's Imperial Hotel to accommodate the crowd. Sean Perry was once again in whip-sharp form as master of ceremonies for evening. Proceedings got underway with the individual awards section. Under 21 hurler of the year was the ice-nerved and accurate Danny Breen, while Brídín Maguire capped a fine season by bagging the under 23 ladies player of the year award. The under 21 footballer of the year award went the way of Jack Gallagher, a very popular and deserved winner. The presentation to the Junior Shield winning ladies was then made. They claimed an impressive victory over a determined Letterkenny Gaels team in the final at Lifford with a 3-10 to 1-10 scoreline, a great reward for this team after years of hard work. After that it was back to the individual awards with tigerish defender Rebecca McLaughlin picking up the junior ladies player of the year gong. The reserve footballer of the year went to Luke Carr, which allowed Sean Perry to rehearse some vintage Aodh Ruadh / Kilcar banter. Next up were the senior award winners from ladies football, hurling and men's football. Dynamic midfielder Anna-Lisa Rabbitte got the nod as the Tanya O'Shea Dunne senior ladies player of the year winner, while the senior hurler of the year award was a joint presentation to Ciaran Rami and Martin Larkin. The Ciaran Keon senior player of the year was won by Matt Gillespie, well deserved after a year where he really made his mark on the senior ranks as they retained their place in the senior championship. That was followed by the presentation of another team award, with the under 21 hurlers receiving their Shield winner medals. They really turned on the style in the decider, raining over the points against Setanta to run out 0-15 to 2-4 winners against Setanta at the Donegal Centre of Excellence. This is a great bunch of lads with a lot promise and there are high hopes they can push on to bigger and better things in the coming season. That was then followed by presentations to the four-in-a-row minor championship winners of 1979 to 1982. It was a real treat to relive some wonderful memories from a sensational run of success for the club. When you saw some of the old warriors gathered to remember the achievement and look back at the honours they subsequently accrued in the game, it is clear this was a very special era for football in the club. Then came time for the presentation of the Hall of Fame award. This is a very prestigious award, recognising a lifetime of unstinting work, effort and success on behalf of the club. The award has not been presented since 2022, and the latest inductee, Jim Kane, was very much worthy of the accolade. Jim has served Aodh Ruadh in numerous capacities over the decades and Sean Perry's eulogy did full justice to Jim's contribution to the club on and off the pitch.You can read his citation on aodhruadh.org. Aodh Ruadh Vice Chairman Diarmaid Keon made a closing address in the stead of Chairman Barry O'Neill who was with his father, Club President Owen Roe O'Neill who is poorly at the moment. We keep Owen Roe in our thoughts at this time. With the night's ceremonials complete it was time for the Rockhill Ramblers to take the stage and supply the music as Aodh Ruadh continued to mark the year past in appropriate style. Super Bowl LIX ended with the scoreline reading Philadelphia Eagles 40 Kansas City Chiefs 22. While Taylor Swift might have been disappointed, there was better new for the winners in the Senior Footballer Box Draw. The first quarter winner was Adrian Maxwell (7-0); the half-time winner was Aaron Clarke (24-0); the third quarter winner was SPSS Dolan (34-6); and the full time winner was Johnny Gethins (40-22). Caroline Roper was the big winner at last week's bingo with a trio of prizes, taking the €500 jackpot, the game five house and the game ten €50 double line! The €1,000 winter Snowball went unclaimed so will be played on 46 numbers this week, with Eileen McIntyre taking the €100 house. The other house winners were Sonia Kelly, Anne Maguire, Maureen Coughlin, Molly Ferguson, Sharon Brogan, Martin Travers, with Michelle Alonso and Leanne Patterson sharing the game nine house. The €50 line was won by Josie Lynch (also winning a second line win), with the other lines won by Anne Herron, Caroline Murphy, Mary Alice Patton, Philomena McGoldrick, Caroline Finnerty, Patricia Downey and Mary Kane. Patsy McShea was last one standing to scoop the €130 Stand Up prize! Introducing the Club 250 Draw
We are calling on all Aodh Ruadh supporters, players, former players, families and friends, whether at home or abroad, to sign up to our Club 250 Draw. This is a mega 12 month draw with over €15,000 in prizes to be won. There will be monthly draws with a first prize of €1,000, a €300 second prize and a €200 third prize. We will also have a monthly special prize up for grabs.
All funds raised will go towards the development of Gaelic Games in Ballyshannon and the surrounding area, helping us to invest in all our teams, coaching and facilities. Our target is to have at least 250 entrants in the Club 250 Draw at €5.75 per week, €25 per month or €75 per quarter. The first of the 12 monthly draws will take place on Saturday, 5th April.

The Lidl LGFA promotion has commenced and this year it sees clubs now in with a chance to win sets of jerseys and cash, depending on how many stamps are collected between now and 16th March. With Aodh Ruadh entering two under 14 teams this year an extra set of jerseys would be very much appreciated! We ask that anyone who shops in Lidl go into the Lidl App and select the club via the in-app survey. This can be done by selecting Donegal and then Aodh Ruadh Ballyshannon as your club, just be sure you select the correct option as there are two Aodh Ruadhs on the app! It was great preparation for the girls ahead of their opening championship game against Derry this Saturday. One night, two and half hours of your time that could save someone's life. Aodh Ruadh has organised CPR/AED Irish Heart Foundation courses on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th February, at the modest cost of €10. The unsubsidised cost of this course, which is certified by the HSA and nationally recognised, can be as much as €100. This will also be a refresher course for anyone who did the course last year. There is roughly a 70 percent chance you will be in a situation where a loved one or friend will need life saving CPR/AED in the precious few moments before an emergency ambulance service can arrive. To book, pay through Aodh Ruadh Klubfunder page under general payments and leave a note CPR/AED and then send a screenshot of the payment to Chris Kelly on 086-8813553. We are encouraging at least one coach from each age group to register.
There are also places available on the more comprehensive PHECC First Aid Responders course for coaches in the club. This course will be 18 hours in total over six nights and will cover first aid principles, patient assessment, cardiac CFR, managing common medical emergencies, and injury management. This course is recognised by the HSA for first aid in the work place. This costs €50 and incorporates the CPR/AED module as well. We ask all club members to make arrangements for their 2025 club registration ahead of the new season. Once again, we are using the official GAA online platform, Foireann, as the primary channel for processing club membership. To obtain or renew membership go online to foireann.ie, and your membership status will be displayed on the dashboard after you login, with the option to register, if you have not yet paid your membership for 2025. Anyone running into problems with Foireann can contact the club Secretary, Louise Larkin, for assistance. Alternatively, membership can also be paid to Gerry Ferguson at Ferguson's Jewellers. All players, without exception, must be signed up club members prior to the commencement of training. Non members are not covered by the GAA's injury insurance scheme and cannot line out for the club. Adult members will receive first priority for the club's allocation of Ulster or All-Ireland final tickets in the event of Donegal contesting these deciders. We had a mass exodus from the competition with over half the participants dropping out this weekend. The draw between Galway and Derry and Dublin's big win in the Kingdom were the main culprits. Roughly 80 players now march on to week four of the competition.Ballyshannon Bingo
Rita McGullion was the big winner at last week's bingo, taking our Jackpot home to Belleek, as well as sharing the €100 house in game 6 with Tracey Singh. The €1,000 winter Snowball went unclaimed so will be played on 47 numbers this week. Our other house winners were Gerard Kane, Martin Travers, Mary B Kerrigan and Kathleen McGrory (shared), Ursula Williamson, Marie Ward and Regina Dolan (shared), Eileen McIntyre, Jude Rooney, Majella Gethins and Tracey Campbell and Tracey Gallagher (shared). The €50 lines were won by Molly Kerrigan and Mary Travers (shared), and Mary Cleary, with the other lines won by Marion McGloin, Sonya Kelly, Ellen Maguire, Madeline Gibbions, Antoinette McKinney, Paul Monaghan, Marie Gormley, David Perciville, Mary Alice Patton, Annmarie Greene, Eileen Maguire and Eamon Maguire. Kay Gilvarry was last one standing to scoop the €135 Stand Up prize, and our half time free book draw had Anthony Mulhern and Molly Kerrigan as the winners. We do it all again this Tuesday at the Abbey Centre where again we have €2,900 to play for, including €1,000 Snowball, €500 50/50 Jackpot and €330 Lucky Numbers game.
